Kate Middleton is a role model for me?

I like the way she looks, so pretty and stylish but classic and simple at the same time.

Slim but toned and athletic figure, meanwhile I could lose a few kg.

Her personality seems refined and elegant, you will never catch her sharing controversial opinions or offending views.

She seems to be a supportive wife and mother

Seems overall to live such an elegant life.

AIBU? To want to be more like Kate and see her as a role model?

Nothing particularly but I just wouldn’t say she’s a role model because she married someone.

I don’t hate her or think she needs to do anything specific, I just wouldn’t look up to her because I don’t think she’s done anything I’d want to - or want my daughters to - emulate.

julieca · 06/10/2021 13:48

They got married, they wear nice clothes, they attend relatively few engagements of meetings, parades and openings. That is it. If they didn't use taxpayers money and were just a celebrity couple I would not care what they did.
But also agree they are not role models. Apart from their wealth and status, they appear pretty unremarkable people.

DrSbaitso · 06/10/2021 13:55

@julieca

Stop feeding us a bullshit fairy tale marriage story that treats us as if we are stupid.
Do they do that? I'm pretty ambivalent about the Royal Family but their role is pretty clear, and that appears to be what she's doing, along with him. Turning up and being personable and presentable. That's what they all do. How is she bullshitting a fairy tale marriage or treating us as if we're stupid?
julieca · 06/10/2021 14:00

Not Kate, but the pr people.

LittleGwyneth · 06/10/2021 14:37

I really like her. I also like a lot of other rather more outspoken women. But I find her reassuring. Nothing wrong with enjoying her public persona.

mustlovegin · 06/10/2021 15:01

I don’t think she’s done anything I’d want to - or want my daughters to - emulate

Don't worry, very few people will have the chance or manage to emulate what she has been able to do.

mustlovegin · 06/10/2021 15:03

Not Kate, but the PR people

It's just PR. Do you get so irritated about PR for celebrities, influencers, sportswomen?

julieca · 06/10/2021 15:06

@mustlovegin I am not paying for those people.

lllllllllll · 06/10/2021 15:08

For whatever reason I always thought Edward preferred his bread buttered on the other side, preferred batting from the opposition. But given we saw the sheer shit storm that having a little bit of Blackness in the modern day royal family caused I can't imagine the shit storm if Edward did indeed prefer a bit of salted butter.

@VladmirsPoutine I'm actually shocked at the language used in this post - WTF? Confused

mustlovegin · 06/10/2021 15:11

I am not paying for those people

You are not paying for the monarchy either. Read PPs regarding revenue upthread

julieca · 06/10/2021 15:12

Of course I am paying for the monarchy. Don't be so naive. They don't even publish how much the security bill comes to.

Roussette · 06/10/2021 15:13

Of course we're all paying for the monarchy.

This ridiculous myth that we aren't is daft

You can massage figures to make it look like we're not.
We certainly are.

I've linked stuff upthread

Roussette · 06/10/2021 15:14

Exactly, the hard pressed Met and other forces are gagged from saying.
In so many ways, we are paying over and over

TheKeatingFive · 06/10/2021 15:15

Of course we're paying for the monarchy. How ridiculous.

But really, hats off to their PR team, they are stellar at their job.

daisychain01 · 06/10/2021 15:23

Vile and distasteful to whom?

@Cadent are you always that obtuse.

Right, but my point was if someone is your role model that means you should be trying to emulate them or you look up to them because of what they’ve done.

I don’t see anything she has done that’s worth emulating, and nobody on this thread has pointed to anything that makes her a valid role model.

StoneofDestiny · 06/10/2021 18:25

@blossomtoes
Edward is kept away from the public as much as possible

Quite obviously he’s not or he wouldn’t carry out 300 engagements in a normal year. We all know how anti royalist you and Roussette are @StoneofDestiny, you don’t have to make stuff up to prove it.

What? Yes, I am a Republican. Very much against my taxes going to support a family of multi millionaires that have done nothing to prove their capabilities or expertise in any field.

Edward is kept in great extravagance to carry out ridiculous 'engagements' where the fewest people will be present. Last time he was in front of a camera and spoke 'off the cuff' he showed himself up by throwing a tantrum at journalists - Royal It's a Knockout. Last time he tried to earn a crust off his own back he got a rollicking from his brother as he defied a press agreement in not filming William at Uni. In other words, he use his 'Royal Access' card to try and get a 'scoop'. His wife Sophie did the same, selling 'access' to the Royals.

In any other walk of life they would face suspension, investigation and probably sacking. In their world they get soft tasks to carry out.

I think they should have an opt in scheme for supporting this cringe worthy bunch of scroungers. Those that want to pay, can pay by opting in. Those that do not, are presumed to opt out.

Cadent · 06/10/2021 18:49

@daisychain01

Are you always so disingenuous?

Picking on a black poster for using the word ‘Blackness’ whilst bypassing the racism against Meghan?

Laughable.

An excellent idea. In the meantime perhaps we could say that I pay your £2 a year and you pay mine for something I disapprove of. There’s a long list for you to choose from.

julieca · 06/10/2021 21:15

No way would £2 a year per person even begin to cover the security bills.

DrSbaitso · 06/10/2021 21:20

@julieca

It might if it was solely for Andrew's integrity.
PeriChristmas · 06/10/2021 21:32

@MusicTeacherSussex

I think you could find MUCH better role models than a gurning, taciturn doll who is perpetuating a long dead monarchy at the top of a toxic class system that excuses sexual predators.
Yup.
madisonbridges · 06/10/2021 21:37

@julieca

Stop feeding us a bullshit fairy tale marriage story that treats us as if we are stupid.
Where's your proof it's NOT a fairy tale marriage story?
RonaldMcDonald · 06/10/2021 21:38

I cannot bear the entire pointless lot except, grudgingly, HMQ and Princess Anne.

Duchess of Cambs seems one of the least appealing of the family, sitting just above Andrew
Dull, do nothing, cos playing her dead mil - she and her weak chinned, lay about, rage monster husband will end the monarchy
How anyone admired her is completely baffling to me

RonaldMcDonald · 06/10/2021 21:46

Able to do?

Many women married and had children.
The rest of us mostly then worked - inside the home or out of it or realistically both

She wears ghastly clothing, smiles and waves when she can be persuaded and knows her place.
What exactly is there to emulate? She was simply a Royal bride and brood mare, nothing more - unfortunately.
She is like many who marry very wealthy men - aware that it is their ticket she is riding on and not her own
