Kate Middleton is a role model for me?

I like the way she looks, so pretty and stylish but classic and simple at the same time.

Slim but toned and athletic figure, meanwhile I could lose a few kg.

Her personality seems refined and elegant, you will never catch her sharing controversial opinions or offending views.

She seems to be a supportive wife and mother

Seems overall to live such an elegant life.

AIBU? To want to be more like Kate and see her as a role model?

She is in a strange position that the older she gets, the more she'll have to work so I don't blame her for enjoying her younger years if she's still going to be toiling away in her 90s.

Hardly ‘toiling away’ though, is it? She changes coats a lot and wears smart shoes. I’m not a royalist anyway so think the whole thing is a bit daft but I definitely wouldn’t cal it a life of hard toil.

I still can’t see any reason to make her your role model. Other than ‘bagging a Prince’ which I wouldn’t really call a personal achievement - even being a prince is simply an accident of birth - she hasn’t done anything spectacularly impressive. There are many impressive women out there to actually hold up as role models for young girls and women.

I find it odd that for years she seemed to really want the job, to be fair she may be very in love with William. I am old enough to remember Diana and it seems to me that Kate has not made much of her roll in terms of causes and charity work.

Frederik33 · 04/10/2021 19:16

Oops role

julieca · 04/10/2021 19:22

I think it is because neither of them really want to work.

I mean, same, but I CBA with the sprogging heirs, staying thin, and doing meet and greets with the public. I’d make a great fat, reclusive Kate Middleton though if there’s an obscure, non-pervy royal around to keep me in biscuits.

Changechangychange · 04/10/2021 19:50

@Roussette

Who are the women like this?? Shock
“Antagonistic” - it’s a dig at Meghan, I think Hmm

I don’t think that Prince Edward has been seen in public since about 1987 (the shame of It’s a Royal Knockout forced him into hiding) so he might do, if you can only get Sophie out of the way!

If her job is so easy, why couldn't Meghan or Harry (whom I like!) do it?
StoneofDestiny · 04/10/2021 20:59

The so called 'charity work'. I wish people recognised the real work is done by volunteers in nearly every charity and after that the paid staff who coordinate activity, promotion and funding. Figureheads don't do the work.

StoneofDestiny · 04/10/2021 21:04

They chose not to. There is and was no 'job'.
Any of the royals could give up 'the job' and still live as millionaires. Could you?

The minor royals don't have to live in the goldfish bowl the same way. They're much less high profile and most of them do have jobs, albeit very privileged ones. They don't have the very distinctive job of full time working royal.

The senior royal stuff is so shit that it didn't just cost Harry his mother, it cost him his first love. He and Chelsy Davy were very much in love but she couldn't hack royal life and I don't blame her.

We always have so many people claiming they would hate the royal life yet sneering at Harry and Meghan for the same, and belittling those who do...

julieca · 04/10/2021 21:18

@DrSbaitso because the role of the "spare" is to take the bad press to distract from bad behaviour by the heir. That is how it works.

I think this is because Kate is very aware she mustn’t take the limelight away from William who will be the king one day and also the current queen, as well as Prince Charles and Camilla who are higher up the tree than she is. She’s a little stuck between a rock and a hard place and is playing it safe for now.

True

@Macncheeseballs

She's a bit stepford
She's totally Stepford !

If Andrew, Fergie, Edward ever had to compete in the open job market like everyone else, they would fail at the first post. They are unskilled, inexperienced and too entitled to earn their own living. Beatrice and her sister were renowned for spending more time on holiday than at work and sapping up taxpayers money to fund security to follow them wherever they went. Catherine - inexperienced and no track record of full time employment. William only managed a part time job - even knowing how much his training as a helicopter pilot cost us all.
Total frauds the lot of them - Charles is the oldest apprentice know to exist. His son is apprentice to the apprentice. You really couldn't make it up!

VladmirsPoutine · 05/10/2021 17:30

@StoneofDestiny Didn't Kate work at Jigsaw to fill the years she spent waiting for a proposal.

Iamthewombat · 05/10/2021 17:46

I’m not sure that Kate’s work at Jigsaw would count as a track record of full time employment!

She worked part time, as an accessories buyer, for less than a year and was given the job by John and Belle Robinson, friends and neighbours of the Middleton parents who just happened to own Jigsaw. I wonder how many accessories Kate actually sourced and bought?

I don’t doubt that, like Bea’n’Yooj, her terms of employment were flexible enough to enable her to take time off whenever she felt like it or when she was required by William!

VladmirsPoutine · 05/10/2021 17:52

I'm being facetious Grin

I think Kate's pulled off an epic heist. Bag a Prince and sit on her laurels all day being a Princess. They literally write children's fairytales about this sort of thing and Kate pulled it off!

Morgan12 · 05/10/2021 18:05

Nah she's done bugger all really. I'd have much more respect for her if she told her husband to fuck off instead of putting up with his cheating.

She isn't a role model at all actually. Not in the slightest.

Cadent · 05/10/2021 18:10

If the speculation about his affair is true, it’s so bizarre as the lady is a cookie cutter of Kate!

AuntMasha · 05/10/2021 18:15

Certainly not a role model for me — very dated, like she’s from the 1950s.

He did 300 engagements in 2019.
Roussette · 05/10/2021 18:57

So he flippin' should! Him who lives in 180 roomed Bagshot park funded by us!

Sometimes they do 4 or 5 in a day so it's hardly hard work.

Iamthewombat · 05/10/2021 19:34

I, too, can be facetious! As I was when I suggested that dear old Prince Edward had not been seein in public since flouncing from Alton Towers in 1987, after It’s a Royal Knockout, when the press didn’t tell him that he was fabulous.

Actually I just looked it up on Wikipedia to see who was on his team. His dream team included Toyah Wilcox (!), Rodney from only Fools and Horses (!!!) and Dame Kiri te Kanawa (!!!!). No wonder he lost.

Princess Anne’s team won, thanks to the might of Cliff Richard, Sheena Easton and Electric Avenue’s Eddy Grant.
