chocolate cake overrated

am I being unreasonable to say I think most chocolate cake is overrated?

I'd think fruit cake or ginger cake, even banana loaf is tastier

I do - I love fruit cake, and I especially love Christmas cake - fed with plenty of brandy, full of fruit and covered in home made marzipan and icing. It’s one of the things I look forward to about Christmas - but I like Christmas pudding too, which can be equally divisive.

I only like fruit cake with cheese!

I made some of that during the first lockdown when shelves were empty - used up some out of date GF flour I’d only ever used for a visiting BiL, and dried fruit left over from Christmas.

This. Fruit cake is the only cake I really like. Am slightly saddened that you don’t tend to get it at weddings these days I used to love an evening do making inroads into piles of tiny fruit cake slices.

Such a winning combo. Although if I feel I should be a little healthier I add grapes and sliced apple!!!

Cake of any kind is overrated.

Cheese scones, with a bit of chilli, are much more tempting 😍😍

I'd say yes if it is dry/pale with weird taste which are traits of most bought ones. My homemade chocolate fudge cake is far from over rated, it is moist, dark chocolate (with coffee in that further enhances the chocolate flavour), fudgy, indulgent (matilda like) and everything a chocolate cake should be. The fudge icing melts in your mouth. It is the only chocolate cake myself and my family like.

Chocolate cake done well is sublime. I prefer cake to any other dessert. Generally, I think shop-bought cakes are disappointing - far too sweet and a bit bland, Homemade cakes tend to be far superior.

Coffee cake is equal to chocolate cake in my opinion.

I also love a fresh lemon drizzle. The combination of freshly-baked sponge cake, sweet glacé icing and tart lemon syrup and lemon zest is something really special.
