It gets pretty depressing on here, shall we have a nice thread for the nice things we have done this week?

I haven't done it yet, but I have just arranged to meet a couple of friends today for lunch in town in the cafe where we used to meet most Saturdays pre-Covid.

We continued to meet whenever permitted and available, but always outside and never in town. In fact I have only been into the town centre a handful of times in the last 19 months.

For various reasons - family commitments and illness, PCR tests and self-isolation - we have only been able to meet on WhatsApp since the start of August. Until today.
Apparently the cafe has recently resurrected my all time favourite autumn meal as well, so I am really looking forward to it!

I'm in a gorgeous 5* hotel with my oldest, bestest friend, to celebrate her 50th birthday. It's ages since I've been anywhere, and even longer since we've had chance to get away without children. It's such a treat.

After a series of falls, I have a fractured shoulder and a sprained hip.
I am so grateful to the staff at 111 who have ensured that I got the right treatment. I also appreciate, even more, how lucky I am to have a family to take care of me. I can’t imagine how difficult my life would be if I was alone.

HugeAckmansWife · 02/10/2021 10:29

I've just restructured my finances so I can stay in the black each month; I've just booked train and theatre tickets for me and the DCs just before Xmas as a result so feeling very "go me, working single mum making life good". I also have a cat on my lap :)

DressBitch · 02/10/2021 10:37

I started maternity leave this week. My boss drove an hour out of his way, to stop by my house to surprise me with flowers and chocolate. It cheered me up as I'm full of cold and miserable.

Brigante9 · 02/10/2021 10:44

I had to take the dog put after work yesterday and was a bit worried, he’s not brilliant with other dogs and I knew it would be busy. However, despite an out of control dog pelting over, he was very tolerant and ignored it, preferring to retrieve his ball. I’m proud of him, it’s been a process!

A student told me she wanted to do Gcse French but wants me as a teacher. Obviously, I told her to choose her options based on what’s best for her and not on her teachers, but secretly, it made me happy that she’s enjoying my lessons.

Yesterday was a teacher training day and being able to see faces and put some names to them was lovely. We had a presenter who did a really good job and was entertaining whilst also very informative. It was a really nice day.

Pamcake69 · 02/10/2021 11:21

That's such a lovely thing to share, how great for you both 💖😊

Pamcake69 · 02/10/2021 11:27

I've been asked to share my IVF story with our clinic as their collecting success stories to share with people getting ready for their first tries, I'm so pleased and now I'm getting everything ready for a lovely fun wkd with just me and my little ones while daddy is away for the wkd, we're always so busy it's nice just being us for a change 💖🎉

drumandthebass · 02/10/2021 11:39

The squirrel that tapped on the patio door this morning. We don't get squirrels in the garden (luckily because we have a dog and can't even say the word "squirrel" without him going crazy). So it was a very lovely sight

linelgreen · 02/10/2021 11:42

Booked to go to New York at the end of November for some pre-Xmas shopping and sightseeing. Just now hoping that travel rules don't change as it feels so long since we last flew anywhere.

SuziLikeSuziQ · 02/10/2021 11:42

My toddler slept through last night for the first night in at least six weeks. Then we went to pick sloes for Christmas gin this morning, got caught in the rain and came home to dry off with warm milk and Hey Duggee! Lovely morning 🥰

Blondiney · 02/10/2021 11:46

I had a brick outbuilding removed from the back of my house so that my dogs could have more room in the garden. They're rescues and it's lovely watching them learn how to play.

ImInStealthMode · 02/10/2021 11:47

Was (happily) volunteering this morning for a local event, outside in pouring rain and wind.

Now home via the shop for comfort foods, dry, warm and looking forward to a day under blankets on the couch with DP while the weather howls outside, making plans for 2 exciting trips away we have coming up this month Smile

EllieSattler · 02/10/2021 11:50

I went for a swim for the first time since Covid. Bliss.

actiongirl1978 · 02/10/2021 11:52

@Proudofher congratulations that's lovely news. My niece is epilectic and started at the same age so I know how worrying it is for you as a parent. Long may it last x

loveliesbleeding1 · 02/10/2021 12:07

Been out in the rain and wind to walk the dog and now she’s asleep next to me and I have a great big mug of tea, perfect.

FizzyPink · 02/10/2021 12:14

Last night I was on a night out with work. I left at about 10 pm and every single man that I said goodbye to said “please let us know when you get home safe” They’ve never done that before, usually maybe one of them or it’s other girls who text to check.

After all the horrific news this week it’s nice to feel that the nice guys are starting to realise how dangerous just travelling home can be for women.

Purplecatshopaholic · 02/10/2021 12:16

Well, I wasnt going to mention it, but seeing as how you asked - my boyfriend asked me to marry him yesterday.. (never thought I would do the marriage thing again after a nasty divorce, but I said yes) - feeling rather loved and loved up today..

ImInStealthMode · 02/10/2021 12:20

@Purplecatshopaholic Congratulations! ThanksSmile

spagbog5 · 02/10/2021 12:27

Dh and I went out for a lovely meal last night and had such a lovely evening together just the two of us .
We are making the Christmas cake today and dh and dd love to eat the left over mixture together.
Planning a family movie tonight with an open fire tonight as it's raining but we are cosy and happy together at home .
What a lovely lovely thread op - thanks so much x

In Sainsbury’s I heard the sweetest little boy in a pushchair chattering away to his mum. He was so adorable that everyone nearby had a soppy smile.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 02/10/2021 12:33

I am lying in bed with the cat and the electric blanket on, while DP makes bacon bagels. It’s peeing rain outside and we are so cosy.

Strangevipers · 02/10/2021 12:39

I had a Kit Kat for breakfast, bliss

DivingBoardInGuernsey · 02/10/2021 12:45

It's lashing with rain but we're cosy indoors, laundry is on, lunch is cooking, DD and I are both snuggled under blankets reading / MN-ing, cat curled up with us, hot mug of tea within reach.

Also I'm occasionally grinning when I remember a very serious teen who ran past me yesterday wearing a T-shirt that said "vegan athlete" Grin presumably because it would be awful if they weren't getting double credit for being a runner AND vegan.
