To think this is far too much food?

LemonSherbetFancies · 30/09/2021 22:42

Made a saucepan of bolognese mince and DP gave it to my 2 grandkids aged 8 and 9. Alongside pasta. They ate the lot. Aibu to think this is far too much food for 2 kids and also annoyed as although I hadn't said, it was also meant to be for us. He knew I was late him from work so feel a bit pissed off that I know have to cook something else.

@diddl

Oh come on now Op-know your place!

You cooked it and wanted to eat some as well??

But the mighty man decreed how it should be served-so you must laugh & merrily cook something else for yourself.

Well the mighty man and 2 kids would probably leave some if it 1- did not look like 2 portions 2- op said some of it was for her Opening mouth and saying "one portion is for me for later, do with the rest as you want" is not hard. Otherwise everything is a fair game
CyclingIsNotOuting · 01/10/2021 08:03

YANBU. Not because of the quantity, kids are bottomless pits but because he didn’t save you any.

LuaDipa · 01/10/2021 08:04

@Biscoffee

Op, I have many grandchildren and if this had happened in my house Id laugh about it and it would go down in the future as the day the boys ate all the dinner. In fact I’d probably even tell them they’d need bigger shoes to go home in and a pair of grandads trousers.

Rejoice in the boys, fill your heart with the joy of them and know how lucky you are to have them round your table.

Lovely post.
3WildOnes · 01/10/2021 08:04

That does seem like w massive amount. Are the kids overweight?

My 19 year old is a bottomless pit at the moment and I let him eat as much as he wants but he is slim. If he was overweight or close to being overweight I would probably limit his portions a little.

CyclingIsNotOuting · 01/10/2021 08:05

Otherwise everything is a fair game
Really? You’d just finish all the food if your partner didn’t speak up?
Mean.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 01/10/2021 08:05

I think we all want Biscoffee as our granny.
Or at least aim to be like her.

applechips · 01/10/2021 08:08

This thread is hilarious! It’s the perfect example of a bonkers MN food thread.

Doomscrolling · 01/10/2021 08:11

I love a spag bol thread! There was a wonderful R4 programme on the origins of spaghetti bolognese, www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0002rk8

It’s a delight, and shows the shifts over time and migration as the dish evolved.

LookItsMeAgain · 01/10/2021 08:12

He should cook whatever the replacement meal is as he saw fit to give your dinner to your grandchildren.
You should be able to return home and not have to cook a second meal.

diddl · 01/10/2021 08:14

"Opening mouth and saying "one portion is for me for later, do with the rest as you want" is not hard. Otherwise everything is a fair game"

Really?

Well we are all different.

I would have thought it obvious that some should be saved.

EspressoDoubleShot · 01/10/2021 08:18

Agree this is a fantastic thread,window on mn and the dysfunctional food threads

Competitive portion size✔️
500g mince feeds 14+✔️
Call that Bolognaise? It’s a mere ragu?✔️
Smelling salts required at mere mention of celery✔️
Meals that are huge, generate leftovers and even the rugby playing prop husband would struggle to finish this portion✔️
Meals eked out✔️
Addition of pulses,lentils, kilograms of vegetables to food✔️
Chicken curry bulked out with tortilla,kidney beans,sweet corn that actually render it a chimera of a dinner. Neither curry or chilli ✔️

Just the type of classic mn thread we all love

Marguerite2000 · 01/10/2021 08:20

@actingsergeant

If they ate it, it wasn’t too much! Kids are pretty good at self regulating. If they didn’t finish it and it was wasted I’d be annoyed
Are they? If they are so good at self regulating why are so many children overweight/obese?. Yes that's way too much food in my opinion, OP. I would be a bit pissed off if he hadn't saved a portion for me.
Wazzzzzzzup · 01/10/2021 08:20

Well, if you cook 2 portions and there is 4 people in a house, yes, of course it's better to asay one poetion is foe you...

My parents sometimes cooked something for us to have but they fancied something different ao x was for us and they eat y when they got in. Instead of having to ask all the time if someone wanted this and that, we just always did "1 is mine, so leave it there for me".

Wazzzzzzzup · 01/10/2021 08:21

That was in reply to people qondering about me saying "aay to keep 1"

MrsLargeEmbodied · 01/10/2021 08:21

you are a grandparent ?
surely you know how to feed a family of four?
you needed to bulk out the meat

Explosivefarts · 01/10/2021 08:22

Oh give over maybe they were starving a

daisylashes · 01/10/2021 08:22

Must've been tasty take it as a compliment

Brefugee · 01/10/2021 08:23

He knew I was late him from work so feel a bit pissed off that I know have to cook something else.

without having RTFT the obvious answer to that is take out for you and he can fend for himself, surely.

Bluntness100 · 01/10/2021 08:25

Your op is a bit misleading, you just wanted the mince left for you noth your husband as he doesn’t eat it, so basically you’re pissed they ate all the mince and didn’t leave you any

Why not say that?

00100001 · 01/10/2021 08:26

@AmberLynn1536

Your 500gms bolognese sounds like a soup, I’m not surprised they drank it down, if you had put in peppers, mushrooms etc it would have taken longer to eat and filled them up more.
Why the fuck would you put peppers and mushrooms in a Bolognese??
Bluntness100 · 01/10/2021 08:26

@Brefugee

He knew I was late him from work so feel a bit pissed off that I know have to cook something else.

without having RTFT the obvious answer to that is take out for you and he can fend for himself, surely.

He already ate, he doesn’t eat mince. This is one of those times when reading at least the ops posts is advantageous
EmpressSuiko · 01/10/2021 08:26

I feel like an abomination reading this thread, when I make spagbol I just cook plain mince and throw a pre-made sauce in with it and serve it on top of some pasta, I’ve never added any extras!

JustJustWhy · 01/10/2021 08:29

I wish I hadn't read this. It's 08:28, I'm WFH and craving Bolognese (and everyone would throw their hands up in horror at what I'll chuck into mine!)

Brefugee · 01/10/2021 08:33

There are some shitty attitudes on this thread.

Op, I have many grandchildren and if this had happened in my house Id laugh about it and it would go down in the future as the day the boys ate all the dinner. In fact I’d probably even tell them they’d need bigger shoes to go home in and a pair of grandads trousers.

If this happened in my house and my dear husband knew that i had cooked and then didn't make sure there was anything left for me when i came home late from work i would have probably in my hangry state stabbed him.

The actual quantity or recipe isn't relevant. What is relevant is the number of posters saying OP should be really happy to have prepared a meal, come home hungry and her husband doesn't give a shit

Jeez, people. Expect better.
