to be pissed off that packed lunchers had to stay in the classroom today, whilst everyone who who was having xmas dinner had fun in the hall grrrrrrrrr

dd was really upset, as she had to stay with only 2 other kids in her class, whilst the festivites went on.

i am livid. can't belive there was no romm for them, and they r only 5. They had to dress up today too, and she was looking forward to being part of it.

were you not given the option to pay for christmas lunch for your dd?

my ds' school are having a christmas lunch at the end of term, but a letter has been sent to all parents telling them of this, so even those who normally have packed lunch can pay and have christmas lunch if they want.

it is isnt it, i am assuming that there were prob a few kids per class, who didn't want xmas dinner. my dd hates all fodd cept tuna sandwiches.

i need to ask when i am well. i am v annoyed.

Do the children who eat packed lunches usually have them in the classroom, or were they made to have them in the classroom just for today?

I would ask how they plan on making it up to the children who were so disappointed.

as silly as it sounds I was in our dinner hall the other day and the end where the school dinners sit is decorated with a christmas tree and decorations and the end with the packed lunches was completely empty. It looked quite sad.

TBH, I'm not sure why some schools put children eating packed lunches on different tables to children eating school dinners anyway. I certainly can't understand why they'd put the children in a different room!

the packed lunchers noramlly have thier lunch in the hall too. So space wise i am not getting it. They all eat at the sametime, on a normla day.

my only thought is maybe the teachers had lunch too, and there wasnt enuff room?

My dd's Xmas dinner was today. She said 2 out of 20 people in her class didn't want dinner so they had their lunch sitting with them

They even made party hats this morning.

I think it sucks that dd couldn't have sat with everyone else

surely it would have been easier to have them in the hall, because i am guessing they would have to have an adult supervising them?

It's really not on. When I was little I had to have packed lunches because I was brought up veggie and the canteen kept "forgetting" I was veggie everyday and it became too much of a headache. I felt really singled out and conspicuous with me, my brother and another little girl sitting eating our packed lunches on a different table to everyone else.

I've been a teacher since then, and I've seen it work perfectly well for children all eating at the same table whether they have school dinners or packed lunches.

It sounds like your daughter's school really needs to put a bit of thought into how this kind of thing affects the children Pirate. YANBU - I'd be pissed off too!

YABU. You should have encouraged your dd to have school dinner, its all part of the fun of xmas. I find the few still having their packed lunch a bit sad really surely they should pitch in with the day? Otherwise they will find themselves out of things it's life imo.

But children have packed lunches for all sorts of reasons bamboo stalks - and the school allows packed lunches.

It sounds like Pirate's daughter was very keen to pitch in on the Christmas spirit - I don't see why it is vital for her to be eating the same food as everyone else to do this.

SelfishMrsClaus' dd pitched into the day very well whilst choosing to have a packed lunch with party hats etc.

ours who dont pay the £1 70 for the school lunch( we dont haev dinners so its a one off)
have to pay 20p for crackers etc

Our school gives parents the option for their packed lunch children to pay for a school Christmas dinner and that is what we are doing.

bamboo we were not allowed to have Christmas dinner for the day- because we normally had packed lunch we were not allowed to participate in Christmas dinner.

In most nice schools, Xmas lunch is offered to ALL the children, packed or not packed. That is all I have to say on the subject. Bunch of callous miserable bastards. Does not surprise me in the slightest though. Some schools are not run for the benefit of the children.

YANBU. Surely a Christmas lunch isn't just about eating turkey or whatever? It should be about the children celebrating and having fun together. I think the school have behaved very badly here.
