Do they not read what they send out to parents!?!?

This anti Vax bollox was sent round to all parents of my child's school today. See photo.

I am struggling to understand why and how this happened! They have sent round a new email to say ignore the previous. But really poor show from the school 🤦

I think all those things on that checklist are probably true. But it's not from the NHS, and not presented in a balanced way.

knittingaddict · 27/09/2021 17:59

@BluebellsGreenbells

I would be furious to receive this from school. What on earth is wrong with them that they thought that was OK to send out?

So you’ve never been scammed?

You do know ‘school’ is staffed by real people who are busy educating your child and make a human mistake?

It literally takes seconds to read that and realise it's not official and is a forged document. Scarey if schools distribute things without reading them.

I've never been scammed.

But more relevantly, I've never forwarded on a piece of information from a position of standing or authority that turned out to not be what I thought it was.

This isn't simply a matter of not being scammed. The school do not have to forward on every good idea that comes to them. And they shouldn't forwarded on information that they aren't certain of the source, of its value to their community and have considered whether it fits in with their communication in general.

Even stuff that comes from official sources should be considered at a high level if it's going to be forwarded to all parents. Having a captured audience like that needs careful management if you want those parents to take notice of what you do actually send them.

In this instance they have hurt the health of the staff, children and families in their school, which will have a knock on effect for the community as a whole, and damaged their reputation with parents as have shown themselves to be less trustworthy as a source of good information and filled up their parents in boxes with two pieces of mail that do nothing good for anyone. All of which needs to be avoided if you want them to pay attention when you tell them something important.

FlemCandango · 27/09/2021 18:00

Ok I am a bit confused by the people saying they can't read it but are offended by people criticising them for being in agreement with what the attachment says! 😂

I understand the frustration of not being able to see my screen shots and therefore not being able to comment. I appreciate that some people on here may be anti vaxxers and agree with the wording. But ...🤷

So more than one school is receiving this and more than one is passing it on?

QuestionableDanceMoves · 27/09/2021 18:03

I work in a secondary school office and we received this email today with the “checklist” attached.
It came from a very convincing looking NHS email address, was addressed to the headteacher personally and sounded all above board as an accompaniment to the actual consent letter to be sent out.
I read and re-read it several times and then came to the conclusion the NHS wouldn’t send out that kind of information, checked with my manager who had also been reading it and we decided not to circulate it.
Normally, these things stand out like a sore thumb but this was very well done and not immediately obvious at all.

Mrstamborineman · 27/09/2021 18:04

Too small can’t read it sorry

LittleMissMe99 · 27/09/2021 18:08

Is there anything that's factually incorrect in the email? To make an informed decision, especially one concerning your child....you need ALL the information

BluebellsGreenbells · 27/09/2021 18:09

It’s one thing to have all the information and another for the letter to be sent from school!

waybill · 27/09/2021 18:10

Does anyone have a bigger readable copy they can upload so we can all have a good laugh read it properly?

Notmoresugar · 27/09/2021 18:14

YANBU
It doesn't surprise me.
I often get letters from the school office with stupid typos/ mistakes.

I think some staff are either incompetent or just too lazy to double-check their work (before it goes out to 350 parents!).

Likewise, I have phoned up with a general query that one would have thought they would be knowledgeable about (e.g. simple uniform question) and they're absolutely clueless.

BiBabbles · 27/09/2021 18:15

Trying to enlarge the image made the top & bottom blurry so I can only read the checklist, it was "Although alternative treatments are available" that first flagged it for me.

For an anti-vax scam, it's pretty well put together compared to the stories, some shared on here, of all sorts being sent to schools and elsewhere. It's so carefully worded that I can see someone who has been expecting this sort of consent letter to be sent to not pick it all up on a skim through to see where it's trying to lead someone.

I can only imagine the panic in the school when they realized, I do feel a bit bad for them to get fooled like this so visibly. At least it sounds like yours has dealt with it pretty quickly. I wonder how many other haven't.

FlemCandango · 27/09/2021 18:19

Three bigger screen shots!

Do they not read what they send out to parents!?!?

Well for starters it's factually incorrect that it's an NHS document.

Which sets a rather dangerous precedent, no?

youvegottenminuteslynn · 27/09/2021 18:21

@MissMaple82

I agree with it all
You agree with sending documents to schools from fake NHS emails, with fake NHS letterheads etc? You think that's ok?
EmbarrassingAdmissions · 27/09/2021 18:25

@SapphosRock

Am I missing something? That's not anti vax is it?
At a quick glance #s 5 and 10 are giveaways that this is not an NHS Consent form.

mumwon · 27/09/2021 18:26

@MissMaple82 with totally fraudulent misinformation - yeah by all means lets scare people by telling lies & using the NHS format to mislead -why would you mislead people by doing this UNLESS the information is false

EmRata95 · 27/09/2021 18:31

Which parts specifically are lies though? Apart from the obvious it's not NHS?

Can anyone tell me

waybill · 27/09/2021 18:33

I've already had my 2, and never had to sign anything remotely resembling anything like that, so to me it's an obvious fake.

Whoever sent that out from the school must have been frantic when they realised.

trumpisagit · 27/09/2021 18:33

A lot of it seems to be factually correct (the bits I can read) , however it is propaganda and faking an NHS logo on the doc is awful.

I am not anti - vax but surely we all know that the risk of death to children from covid is negligible, and the average age of people who die with covid is high.

youvegottenminuteslynn · 27/09/2021 18:35

@EmRata95

How about you provide sources that back up all of the claims in the document?

The onus of proof is on those making the claims.

We'll wait here while you do that.

The entire thing is a fabrication made to look official. It doesn't matter whether or not some of the statistics contained within it are accurate or not, the document itself is fraudulent. Which hardly inspires any confidence in its contents.

You'd have to be a complete fool to take any of it at face value after having been told umpteen times that it is a fake document.
