the only single sex spaces I can think of are female toilets and changing rooms - is that correct? How would a trans woman affect those spaces?
As people have said, it affects multitude of spaces. But let's start with changing rooms since that's an easy one.
Your slim, light 16 year old daughter goes into the women's changing room for swimming. She is followed in by a muscular 6ft 2 "transwoman" who self identifies this way but has had no treatment or surgery. She is unmistakably biologically male in appearance due to adam's apple, brow ridges, body shape.
Now what if that trans woman is also attracted to women? So actually you have a physically dominant person, sexually attracted to people of your daughters sex, watching them change. What if they are the only two people in there? What if the trans women exposes their genitals to your daughter "because they are changing"?
The physical dominance that a biological man has means:
- they are likely to be much faster. Your daughter probably can't run away.
- they are likely to be taller, with longer arms and legs, and can restrain your daughter more easily.
- they are likely to be stronger, and able to hurt and overpower your daughter.
Even if nothing happens, your daughter is likely to feel scared, anxious and intimidated.
Still think the presence of a trans woman in a women's changing room doesn't affect it?
