We've got your back Rosie. In the words of Tony Benn, there are millions of people in your wilderness.

Wave of support.

Anyone else?

hello Rosie - I love you

Single sex spaces are not fucking toilets.
What about prisons?
Shared rooms in children’s units?
Rape suites.
Dorms in boarding schools (including those for children with profound disabilities).

Anontwentyone · 27/09/2021 09:54

@SummerWhisper

"The rights of biological women to single sex spaces" - the only single sex spaces I can think of are female toilets and changing rooms - is that correct? How would a trans woman affect those spaces?
Women's refuges. Women's sports. Women's prisons. Women's YHA dorms. Women's hospital wards. All Maternity units. Women's STD units. Women's rape crisis shelters. Women's awards. Girl schools. Girl guides.

In fact "toilets" barely enter my mind when thinking about women's spaces.

It's outrageous that extremist gender ideology has lead to males competing against women in sports.

Extremist gender ideology has lead to so much catastrophe for women, and yet people like the poster above who are so blinkered still come along to say "what's all this fuss over toilets"
Unbelievable.

TonyThreePies · 27/09/2021 09:56

I stand with Rosie Duffield & every other woman who has had enough of this nonsense and is brave enough to put themselves on the line to call it out.
Hear hear.

HelloMissus · 27/09/2021 09:58

It’s so easy for middle class privileged people to reduce single sex spaces to ‘toilets’.
Because they’re not thinking about the most vulnerable people in society - girls in care, women in prisons, women in refuges.

Happy to voice support for Rosie here.
I support all women who stand up for our rights. Look at the state of the Labour Party and the fucking mish-mash of ideological piffle & word-mangling they are offering up wrt to women's rights. They have become a bunch of daft & dangerous twats who will never get elected.
She must be in a lonely place right now on account of her actually speaking sense.
After listening to Rachel Reeves stumbling over a straightforward question from Nick Ferrari before parroting the usual guff, and then comparing that with a sensible discussion with Jean Hatchett, I find it incredible that anyone can vilify Rosie Duffield for her clear statement of fact.
I happen to think Rosie is incredibly brave.

@BrendaBubbles

That’s why I support insulate Britain as well. Very brave but getting a lot of hate on here for no reason.
Your friends under the bridge are missing you.

What status quo? There are many voices on this topic across MN. If there are, I haven't come across them! It seems almost universally GC over here.

It is pertinent to point out that if you mean the 'naughty step' that was created for certain topics, then yes, it could look that way. But as the vast majority of those posting in there didn't want that change you'd have to wonder why it exists. Who lobbied for it, why they did so and why MNHQ felt it necessary? Yeah I'm not sure - I don't agree that the issue should be siloed off, I'm with you there. Feels like a weird choice on MN's behalf.

If the MN status quo is 'TERF' then why hide us all away? Well... either they think these convos are bad for their image, they know they tend to be reasonably heated and fast-moving and therefore would dominate elsewhere, or - I suspect - it's easier to mod all in one place and there are a fair amount of guideline violations on those threads! So I imagine out of practicality, tbh.

And to wonder just how long it will be before this thread is moved there because somebody who doesn't want this topic to be discussed on the wider read boards reports it and gets it moved - as has happened with many threads, making that specific board look ever more 'singular' and the rest of MN disinterested. A fair point. I wasn't commenting to say this thread shouldn't be in AIBU, think that's fair enough - just adding my voice to it.

And you obviously haven't been over there for a while, there were at least 3 transwomen posting on a single thread over the weekend. I haven't, actually! That's interesting. Will go and have a look now.

It helps to actually know what you are talking about You're right. Thank you for sharing - genuinely. I've no intention of starting a fight with someone over here, and I absolutely respect everyone's right to have an opinion on it (and think it's perfectly reasonable for it to be 'in the open' as it were). I added my two pennyworth because...well, that's what forums are for, isn't it, and in my experience (although I acknowledge that it's based off what I view and I mostly stay on AIBU) you don't often see non-GC views on here. But happy to stand corrected on that and will head over to S&G now to have a look.

FOJN · 27/09/2021 10:15

I stand with Rosie Duffield and think the bullying she's been subjected to in the Labour Party is despicable. Keir Starmer reveals his male privilege when he gaslights her and the test of us by saying the party conference is safe for her to attend after she has received death threats.

The only issue I have with the OP is that the words female and male cannot mean both sex and gender identity if we want to discuss things without confusion. Either sex can have a feminine or masculine gender identity or none at all.

FourTeaFallOut · 27/09/2021 10:15

I'm with Rosie. You can't represent adult human females in parliament when you cannot speak their name, when you substitute their biological reality for some wishy washy claim to femininity, when you cannot address their material reality without being hounded as a bigot.

It's cowardice to be linguistically and politically shackled into a distortion of the sex classes that bears no relation to reality to meet the demands of, clearly, 'the most marginalised community in the universe' Hmm .

CuriousaboutSamphire · 27/09/2021 10:15

either they think these convos are bad for their image, they know they tend to be reasonably heated and fast-moving and therefore would dominate elsewhere, or - I suspect - it's easier to mod all in one place and there are a fair amount of guideline violations on those threads! So I imagine out of practicality, tbh. Yes! That's the point, Women talking about women's rights REALLY do need to have their language restricted and their conversations closely monitoered, don't they??!!

Happy reading on the S+G threads. I suspect you might be surpised at the 'tone' those posters chose to adopt!

Willyoujustbequiet · 27/09/2021 10:20

I stand with Rosie.

Ghostsintheshelf · 27/09/2021 10:24

I really admire Rosie. It would be so easy for her to be quiet and not speak up on this issue, and yet she still does it. She has more guts and integrity in her little fingernail than Keir Starmer has in his whole body.

Thelnebriati · 27/09/2021 10:30

Its 2021; we are no longer permitted to use the correct language for our sex classes, and a politician gets death threats for saying only women have a cervix. The response of the party leader is that she was wrong to say it and its safe for her to attend conference.
The last two elections should have been a shoo in for Labour. This issue could turn out to be the final nail in their coffin.

Thank you Rosie for standing up for women's rights. There are many of us who can't say so in real life because of the backlash from a vocal minority.

Arrowheart · 27/09/2021 10:40

Completely support her and think the wishy washy stance of the Labour party when asked about this is disgraceful.

AuntyFungal · 27/09/2021 10:43

I would like to include within the heading “women’s spaces” -

Awards, Scholarships, Shortlists & Diversity Quotas.

It’s not just about physical spaces.

It must be nice to get two bites of the pie!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 27/09/2021 10:48

It's more than that @AuntyFungal It's two bites of every slice of every pie!
