So... all things considered... aren't we up sh-t creek?
-gas and electricity prices
-covid (masks? Pfft completed Covid mate (in England))
-council tax hikes
-inflation
-food shortages
-Brexit
-petrol

Sounds like something out of a dystopian nightmare. I'm worried dear reader, and 'keep calm and carry on' doesn't help.

And this is just the beginning

@OnwardsAndSideways1

One thing I've been moaning about for ages, this actually pre-dates Brexit, but is part of austerity Britain, is how poor everything looks- there are pot-holes in the road, roads aren't cleaned properly, parks are no longer properly cared for (no budget for them, rely on volunteers), buildings dirty, the whole place looks unkempt and horrible. In fact, it does remind me of my husband's Eastern European country when I first went there twenty odd years ago, that had pot holes and public buildings were dirty- now the fabric of their country is much better and there are fewer people living on the streets and the streets are cleaner there.
This. So true.

The Tories can’t plan.
Simple as that
Massively insufficient gas storage, knew 100k too few lorry drivers and didn’t sort DVLA, no back up plan for supply chains post brexit.
And they’re charging the poor to pay for the rich (NI)
It’s as if they don’t give a sh*t
Really interesting to see if/when the penny drops.

PrincessAnnaOfArundale · 27/09/2021 22:21

I’m in Australia but from the U.K. and all my family live in U.K. still, it worries me. I never thought we would stay in Australia forever, always planned to come back one day but it scares me as to what the hell we would be coming back to. The tories have gradually screwed you all and sadly the same people will keep voting for it. Brexit was the biggest show of self harm ever committed by a country. I’ve never seen a country shoot itself in the foot quite so spectacularly. I worry about the nhs. I worry about my family. Life in Australia isn’t perfect by a long way but I can’t even begin to imagine bringing my kids back to the U.K. right now Sad.

Hessneakingoutagain · 27/09/2021 22:23

@PrincessAnnaOfArundale Same ( we’re not in Oz though) I had hoped to return, but to the U.K. I knew before (18 years ago) I’m told it doesn’t exist 🥲

Newbabynewhouse · 27/09/2021 22:30

I'm a bit scared not going to lie... I'm aware other countries have it a lot worse but hmm we are going downhill.. what next..?

rocklamp · 27/09/2021 22:46

What next? Power cuts no doubt.

bumblingbovine49 · 27/09/2021 22:51

@FedNlanders

Yes and I think people are in denial
The level.of denial is astonishing. Apparently there are no petrol problems ,.it is all caused by selfish people buiynf peteo for themselves and not leaving it for this.eehomrewlly need it ( usually thinmeams the op)
bumblingbovine49 · 27/09/2021 22:55

Lord my screen just went bonkers and then posted that load of shite before I could fix it Blush

Anyway , apparently there is no problem , it is just the media exaggerating and selfish fuckers buying too much. We just need to carry on as normal Hmm

Anniemas · 27/09/2021 23:07

That's all lovely and I'm delighted that your Dd is well but she's just one person. What about everybody else?

Hdhdjejdj · 27/09/2021 23:26

@bumblingbovine49 There is no shortage. The media made a number of clumsy comments and panic ensued. That is the truth. What you are claiming to be to true is nonsense and 100% the reason why people are losing their heads and being bloody stupid.

flashy44 · 27/09/2021 23:29

Tory,Labour ,it doesnt matter who you vote for nothing will change for the better, manifestos promise much but deliver nothing.
Same shit different toilet

Hdhdjejdj · 27/09/2021 23:35

Again, not true @flashy44.

Teatotal2 · 28/09/2021 00:41

Sorry but what a load of bollocks! Through my lifetime Tory's have dismantled public services and privatised national interests, it is happening by stealth (not even siscreetly anymore) to the NHS and people are genuinely suffering hardship already. It will only get worse while we have this hopeless, out of touch government running everything, including the people who they are supposed to represent, into the ground! Stop with the apathy!
Teatotal2 · 28/09/2021 00:47

Okay! There really aren't crops rotting away as nobody will pick them, the hauliers are not struggling to get people to drive their heavy goods and petrol🙄
There may not be shortages but it's no good if there's not the manpower to deliver it to where it needs to be!

Hdhdjejdj · 28/09/2021 00:50

Whatever is happening with the crops doesn’t mean that there are shortages of petrol. Plus, had everyone not lost their minds there would have been sufficient amounts of HGV deliveries to petrol stations. All this truth twisting is not helpful.

Miisty · 28/09/2021 00:51

Bumbling Boris has made a right mess of everything Covid he was slow to do anything so many thousands of extra people died .Shelves in Lidl’s yesterday very low on certain items fuel out down the road in our little village no public transport so stuck and will do without as transport minister says No fuel shortage how Thick are they Some of them have made millions of Boris mess

Draggondragon · 28/09/2021 01:43

@Hdhdjejdj

I’m truly astonished. If you swapped the word northerners for black people or Eastern Europeans, you lot would be up in arms. You really are a very odd bunch or people.
I. Couldn't agree more. Nuts.
bakingbernie · 28/09/2021 02:50

From what I have read and seen in the European press the whole of Europe is facing a shortage of lorry drivers. The electricity price rise is a direct consequence of the gas supply situation from Russia to the European Union and the price charged and the quantity provided. The problem with electricity supply also goes back to decisions not made by previous governments that has relied too heavily on wind power which does not work when there is no wind.
It is too easy to blame the current government for mistakes made by previous administrations. When you throw in Covid it is no wonder things are not going smoothly. In spite of what is said on these forums I do not believe it is sunshine and roses in Europe.

westcorkbookworm · 28/09/2021 02:54

It may not be sunshine and roses in the rest of Europe; indeed, it most certainly is not, but there is no other place that is suffering shortages on supermarket shelves and at petrol pumps like we are. Even Northern Ireland isn't, since it's kept part of the single market through the protocol. Everywhere has suffered the pandemic yet we are the only people in this state. It's not rocket science to work out what the difference is and Brexit was implemented and enabled by Boris Johnson, who banged on and on about the glories of his fabled bloody deal.

Gothichouse40 · 28/09/2021 03:00

The media are responsible for an awful lot of the petrol panic buying. They also published a list of things that there would be shortages off, all to sell their awful scandal sheets. Sadly they know the gullible will believe all this every time. The media have much to answer for , Covid reporting was dire, no wonder people are scared, anxious and out panic buying. I cannot stand sensationalist and irresponsible journalism. Not saying there aren't issues but the fuel is there, it's the shortage of HGV drivers that is the main issue. They had all these ridiculous headlines about Christmas shortages, ffs it's September. I honestly think they have brought the country to fever pitch with fearmongering. Absolute disgrace, along with the BBC and Sky news. I don't watch or read any of it and are the better for it. No wonder there is a mental health crisis. Stop reading and believing the hype. If you are fed a constant diet of fear, you begin to believe it.

Nat6999 · 28/09/2021 03:16

I've been trying to fill up my trolley for my online shop & over half of the stuff is out of stock, we ended up doing a shop at Fresh on Amazon for things like bread, yoghurt bottled water, pop & some tinned stuff we couldn't get on our usual order. There doesn't seem to be as much fresh meat as usual so we have done a Deliveroo order to a local butcher.

Plumtree391 · 28/09/2021 03:27

Gosh, Nat, I'm so sorry you've had problems with groceries. Mine have been fine and a couple of hours ago, I put in an order.

I can also get things like bread, cheese, veg, yogurt and some other stuff from the milkman. I received some yesterday with no problem.

I wonder if shortages are more prevalent in certain areas. I'm in London.

MythicalBiologicalFennel · 28/09/2021 04:08

Let's say this again:

No other country in Europe is suffering food or fuel shortages.
