What to do about dog poo woman?

There is a tiny elderly woman who walks her dogs past my house every morning. She’s quite well known due to the fact that she’s about 4ft and walks two giant Irish wolfhounds that are 3 times the size of her. Problem is she doesn’t pick up their shit. The dogs often poo right outside my house. I went out to speak to her last week and asked her nicely if she would mind picking up the dog poo and she smiled sweetly and said “I’m 86 dear, if I bent down there I’d never get back up again!” and walked off.
Anyway there was a post on the neighbourhood Facebook page about people leaving dog poo so I replied saying about this lady and was told I was out of order as she’s so elderly!?

WIBU to mention it or even approach her??

OP posts:

There is no way on earth that an 86 year old lady is capable of responsibly walking two bloody wolfhounds. One wrong move and she’d be flat on the ground and they’d be gone. One wolfhound would be too much never mind two. Also how would she stop someone stealing them? The whole thing sounds bonkers. She needs a dog walker to at least go with her to safely manage them and to pick up the bloody poo.

Workinghardeveryday · 25/09/2021 20:10

Has anyone else commented on this post early on and watched it all day and now feel of the thought of a big pile of dog poo!! 🤮

AveryGoodlay · 25/09/2021 21:57

There’s at least one community where people will do it for those who can’t Why do members of that community have animals they are unable to clean up after?

Saoirse82 · 25/09/2021 22:47

@whateveryousay

Or just buy some poo bags, and be kind, and go and help her out on the occasion they poo outside your house? I imagine that the dogs are very important to her, and reporting an 86 year old woman to the dog warden, with the stress this could cause her, sounds awful!! No, it’s not your job, but would take seconds out of your day??
Yes, how fucking cruel to report an 86 year old woman to the warden and risk her losing her dogs. I'd just pick it up myself if it's that much of an issue. She likely lives alone with those dogs and they probably mean the world to her. Cruel bunch of people on here!

@Maltedmilkdrinks

Off topic...but a lot of socially isolated older people are socially isolated because they were horrible to their relatives when they were younger. Of course not all. But if you are an arsehole for a lifetime you are not suddenly going to find people beating a path to your door when you become vulnerable and old. If you couldn't be bothered with your children in their adulthood when you had your health etc then why should they suddenly rush to your bedside. Except guilt and obligation. Grumpy older people with antisocial behaviours, pets they can't manage, houses falling apart and a lack of regard for others isn't just old age and a lack of care from society. In part yes. But I bet she's always been like this. Considering others is for a lifetime
What a lot of rubbish! The socially isolated elderly people I know are some of the loveliest people and its circumstance that have left them isolated, no children, children live abroad etc. What an awful thing to say!

Being 86 does not mean you are above the law. It is the law to pick up after your dog. My 87 year old grandad managed to pick up after his dogs, and he was on a mobility scooter.

And what about the wheelchair user who ‘means the world’ to his children? Or the single mum who lives alone with her toddler, and doesn’t want her ‘world’ to end up blind from an infection they have caught treading through dog shit?

One person’s happiness doesn’t outweigh others’ safety. It isn’t acceptable. And nobody is saying her dogs should be removed forcibly, but that she should pay a dog waker or encourage them to defecate in her garden where their shit won’t be harmful to others.

Kanaloa · 26/09/2021 00:10

And it isn’t cruel for God’s sake. If I wanted to pick up two giant dogs’ shit I’d get two giant dogs.

skybluee · 26/09/2021 01:27

I like the idea of giving her the picture of the long handled scoop. She may not know about them and you can frame it as finding a solution for her.

UrbanRambler · 26/09/2021 01:37

Something smells a bit off about all this... and it's not just the dog poo. The OP's tale is just not believable and as they have not returned that makes me think we may have a hairy handed visitor.

FiveShelties · 26/09/2021 01:57

Do pop back OP when you get a minute Hmm

Bogeyes · 26/09/2021 04:15

I bet she can bend down to put food in the dog bowl

I also pick up the scent
FreedomFaith · 26/09/2021 08:35

@Mommabear20

If she can't bend to pick up poop then she can't bend to feed them or fill their water bowl, I'd say reporting her was in the dogs best interest!
This. She's clearly lying. She can feed them, give them water, I expect also bends down to pick up toys to throw or play with them, and I'd imagine her garden isn't covered in shit if they did a poo there.

If you really can't bend down to pick up a dogs poo, you either get one of those tools suggested by other people or you don't have dogs.

Underamour · 26/09/2021 08:39

You can get tall pooper scoopers so you don’t have to bend down

GuyFawkesDay · 26/09/2021 08:51

Yeah this doesn't add up. How does she feed and water them at home? Does she never pick up poo in the garden?

Brollywasntneededafterall · 26/09/2021 08:56

Tbf and make a point the ddog bowls won't be going on the ground.... They should ideally be in an off the ground stand.... Or the ddogs will be like giraffes bending down!! Our sighthound has raised bowls..

MrsLargeEmbodied · 26/09/2021 09:23

it is indeed a Tall Tale

Brollywasntneededafterall · 26/09/2021 09:44

Surely you mean Tall Tail?

Workinghardeveryday · 26/09/2021 09:51

Well if it is a troll at least we all had a nice time this weekend talking about and imagining in great detail picking up huge stinking dog shit 🤮😂

MrsLargeEmbodied · 26/09/2021 09:55

@Brollywasntneededafterall

Surely you mean Tall Tail?
Grin

that as well

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 26/09/2021 11:14

MNHQ please do not take this thread down. SadSad It clearly means the world to the OP and may even be her only friend! Just because she can't be bothered to return to it, isn't reason enough to take it away from her. I live in a community where anyone would take over answering for a hairy-handed OP without question. There should be more people like that Halo

lljkk · 26/09/2021 11:49

To me a troll wants to upset people.

Fantasists just want attention, not trying to wind anyone up. Not the same as trolling.

Showering either with kindness is a interesting tactic to take! Reasonable for fantasists.

Problem is OP stories has several "pushing buttons" aspects, so if it's false (no word from MNHQ), then it's not one to obviously readily drown in kindness.

ellyeth · 26/09/2021 17:39

Why not just get some dog poo bags and pick it up yourself? That's what I would do - not for anyone else but for an elderly lady. What is the other option - that she be told to get rid of her dogs or not walk them?

nyorks1503 · 26/09/2021 17:42

If she can't bend down to pick up her dogs mess how does she bend down to pick up their feed/water bowls????? Or does she just tip it in and never clean their bowls? which is disgusting
