Low waged workers who have worked throughout the pandemic are taking an absolute hammering via UC cuts, council tax rises, the energy crisis and food shortages. What the fuck are these dickheads playing at? Fannying around with Joe Biden who couldn't give a rat's ass what's going on here (and is senile anyway) and passing laws about dognapping while distribution of essential goods grinds to a fucking halt. What are they even doing in that building while everything turns to shit outside of it?

Andy Burnham - yes.

Maybe Angela Rayner, but I think she is quite divisive.

Doesn’t need to be Northern, but does need to have a working class background.

I must admit this is all getting me down, that I’ve decided to not watch the news and engage in politics as it’s proving really bad for my mental health- thoroughly depressed about it all! I used to love politics.

DismantledKing · 24/09/2021 22:05

I’m a member of the Labour Party, and even I wouldn’t vote for a party led by her.

Boood · 24/09/2021 22:07

@Feelslikealot

What can we do about it? There's NO opposition in this country. The working class are too busy keeping their heads above water to sit around protesting.
Too busy keeping their heads above water to demand more of the people who are SUPPOSED to represent them. You shouldn’t need to take to the streets in an advanced democracy- that should be a last resort.
lannistunut · 24/09/2021 22:10

I do not think the labour leader has to have a WC background.

Over time the demographic groups voting left and right are changing anyway.

ChocolateRiver · 24/09/2021 22:13

Someone must like them because they won votes. And I’m very sorry to say I think they will again. I’ve NEVER voted for them and never will! They are a bloody disgrace. I honestly cannot fathom why people like them. I honestly feel like I don’t fit it here (U.K.) anymore.

ChurchofLatterDayPaints · 24/09/2021 22:14

Then why call itself Labour at all, lannistunut?

Voters could be forgiven for having no clue whatsoever what the LP in its current configuration actually stands for.

The party has never required a working class background check.

Me neither.

I like Yvette Cooper.

Tavelo · 24/09/2021 22:21

Just one person who wasn't a feckless fat ponce would do. Literally just one in the whole of parliament would be a huge improvement

Beapot · 24/09/2021 22:24

@AmericanTie

I honestly don't know. We should all be rising up. I am pretty fucking certain of that

But ... Labour is shit and has been for a long time. All the identity politics and victim hierarchy seems to have done away with labour. Just when we needed them. I mean we actually need a party that represents the workers. Ie me. But Kier isn't representing me. It's so fucked.

Nailed it. This should absolutely be labours time to shine with the treatment during covid of the vulnerable, the working class, and of public sector workers. But nope. Too busy alienating women and discussing fucking pronouns.
Notonthestairs · 24/09/2021 22:25

Yes to Yvette Cooper.

SpacemanDad · 24/09/2021 22:27

They’re corrupt and incompetent, the media are complicit, that ghastly Keunssberg is a courtier, not a journalist

etopp · 24/09/2021 22:28

Can I add that anyone who works in the Arts has been completely fucked over? We weren't even allowed to carry on working, because singing causes Covid no it fucking doesn't And no support, so 18 months plus of no income at all, and no access to any benefits.

Gingerkittykat · 24/09/2021 22:29

I hope people remember that the £20 cut in UC also hits disabled people and carers.

I know most people are not sympathetic to the unemployed but the levels of benefits are dismal after no rises from 2011 to 2020. The rate of UC for someone under 25 works out at around £8 a day.

VelvetChairGirl · 24/09/2021 22:30

"What are they even doing in that building while everything turns to shit outside of it?"

feathering their own nests at the countries expense, which is all CONservatives ever do.

HazelBite · 24/09/2021 22:31

BJ got where he is by being a "personality" he is an immensely clever "fellow"who appears to have no personal moral compass.
I watched Piers Morgan interviewing Kier Starmer (quite by chance) for his life stories, it was a very interesting, riveting, view. I came to the conclusion he is probably too nice and principled to lead the country.

TartanJumper · 24/09/2021 22:37

Current polls see no majority, which is at least mildly encouraging

The new social care levy (whatever it's called) has really pissed off a lot of people. Unfortunately not the older people who won't be working/paying it. They are the ones who need to be fed up with them really! Maybe the energy hikes will do it.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 24/09/2021 22:38

If the opposition still can't lead in the current shitshow ...Then is there any hope?

No, for the current so called "opposition I don't think there is; for that, we may need to wait for a new, centre left party to arise

Put it this way - does anyone think Boris et al would be carrying on as they are, if a general election was imminent and the polls were close?

52andblue · 24/09/2021 22:40

@DismantledKing

I think the problem is that we have a very, very poor crop of politicians in this country, and Boris Johnson is very popular with twats. There’s no real talent in any of the parties at present.
I agree. The lack of 'elder states-people' is really damaging. It is the poorest crop for decades, very little talent available.

I think when people are tired, run down, & struggling it's hard to care about what is happening outside your own family. Some are selfish of course, & the media / Govt has pitted 'us' all against each other for decades now so we don't look too closely at them, but mostly I think people are despondent & don't feel they can enact any real change.

Dbank · 24/09/2021 22:41

The Conservatives were voted in with a huge majority, I suspect In part due to the global trend away from Socialism, and partly as the electorate thought the alternatives would be worse.

Criticising the Tories won't get Labour Party elected.

Labour are failing to get their house in order, the Marxist are still there, Magic Gramps is still there, and to make it worse they are now financially fragile. It's looking very likely they will loose their biggest donor, which will be disastrous. The Unite leader isn't even going to the Labour Party conference!

If you want change focus on fixing the opposition, or the next election will just be a re-run.

Theythinkitsalloveritisnow · 24/09/2021 22:42

Labour need to start doing their fucking job and actually challenge the government. They currently seem more interested in bickering amongst themselves about niche identity issues and pay no attention to the lives of ordinary people. They're a bunch of over privileged arseholes who are worse than useless.

Btw I actually quite like Angela Rayner but there's no chance a labour party led by her would ever get into power, she's far too marmite. And gobbyGrin

DismantledKing · 24/09/2021 22:44

Corbyn isn’t a Labour MP. Couldn’t be arsed to fact-check the rest of this bollocks.

IamJuliaJohnson · 24/09/2021 22:44

No credible opposition and blatant gerrymandering via the Boundary Commission for England means that I’m not hopeful that they wouldn’t get returned again.

teaandpastries · 24/09/2021 22:52

It doesn't matter how shit the tories are, I will never ever vote for Labour again. Lying bunch of champagne socialists who hate working people

ChurchofLatterDayPaints · 24/09/2021 22:52

Yes absolutely I do think they would be carrying on as they are. Nobody can be arsed/knows how to stop them.

We aren't at rock bottom yet.
