Borrow what, a lawn mower? That's such an odd thing to borrow from someone, isn't it?!
Gyredjk · 25/09/2021 20:16

I filled up today as nearly empty, not much queue this evening, that will do me for the next 6 months.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 25/09/2021 20:17

I went on a journey today that should have taken max 2hrs. Stupidly stopped at a service station for a wee and couldn't get out past the bloody petrol station - it took 1.5 HOURS to get out of the car park and back onto the motorway. The world has gone mad.

motherrunner · 25/09/2021 20:17

I loaned my lawn mower to my neighbour when hers broke down. But then I am lowly and can only afford an electric one.

Hate the argument ‘I am keeping someone in business by doing this’. Reeks of exploitation.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 25/09/2021 20:18

Any almost every petrol station i passed later on was closed except one very rural independent which appeared normal, stocked and not busy at all Confused

Gyredjk · 25/09/2021 20:18

Bit alarming that someone upthread was advocating coasting to save fuel

whynotwhatknot · 25/09/2021 20:18

NOt at all if youre in a friendly area

Nayday · 25/09/2021 20:19

If you sat in your house today, car outside with 1/4 of a tank that would usually last you at least a week - saw the news about shortages and then thought 'id better fill up just in case'...yes, that's panic buying. You're not the different one who's 'just filling up'.

Ifeelsuchafool · 25/09/2021 20:22

Well I filled a jerry can AND filled my tank today. I live rurally, there's ONE petrol station on my route to work and lots of open countryside with poor mobile reception. I travel back from work now in the dark. If I don't go to work, I don't get paid. I earn less than £20k. Go ahead, judge me. Biscuit

Gyredjk · 25/09/2021 20:23

No one is going to take any notice of randoms on here telling them what to do, filling up is the new stay the fuck at home

What the actual fuck? Should I just fire him then?

But there's not a shortage, once people have got it out of their systems petrol stations will be business as usual. Do you usually fill a Jerry can as well as your tank?
motherrunner · 25/09/2021 20:27

@JesusIsAnyNameFree I don’t know. I’m not in a position to have hired help or ever want to have that power imbalance over someone else.

I disagree. I think it shows sensible forward planning under worrying circumstances.

fantasmasgoria1 · 25/09/2021 20:27

We filled up today because my Fiance has no other way to work other than drive. There is no direct public transport, it would take a very long time to walk and he often starts before any public transport begins. We were in the red so we had no choice.

We are talking about a man in his 60s who loves his job and has done it for over 40 years. I'm pretty sure he's happy with me hiring him.

Nayday · 25/09/2021 20:28

@HeddaGarbled ok then 🤦‍♀️

RedToothBrush · 25/09/2021 20:30

twitter follow for motorway users needing fuel:

Womaninthistown · 25/09/2021 20:30

I managed to fill up this morning with zero queue so don’t recognise the scenes in the media.

I only had 5 miles left btw. Not panic buying!

Doris86 · 25/09/2021 20:31

Exactly this. If anyone has put fuel in their car in the past couple of days when they wouldn’t have done so normally, that is panic buying.
Nayday · 25/09/2021 20:32

So the queues of people 'sensibly forward planning' actually create shortages of fuel because they're buying it in quantities they wouldn't usually, which them causes more 'sensible forward planning'. It's just bloody loo roll all over. Until everyone calms the feck down again.

bonbonours · 25/09/2021 20:32

I think the vast majority of people don't think they are panic buying. Everyone has places they have to go and reasons why they need petrol and if they weren't lucky enough to have a full tank at the point when there was news of shortages they are understandably wanting to make sure they don't run out.

It is panic buying. If people bought at their usual speed volume would be fine but a rush/panic empties pumps/shelves.

If we didn’t change our behaviour it would be ok for everyone.
