Ridiculous name for baby

PegorySpeck · 23/09/2021 16:24

My step son and gf have recently called their newborn a really awful pretentious name. I know it’s their choice but neither me nor my husband can bring ourselves to say it in a sentence. Every time we talk about him we say ‘the baby’ or the ‘little one’. We have been very diplomatic and said things like ‘ oh that’s unusual’ but they have started to notice we don’t use his name in conversation and it’s becoming tense.

Any advice on how to move forward?

@Doomscrolling

Beetlejuice? I could see issues in repeatedly using that.

Ditto Candyman. I hear Michael Gove appears if you say his name 3 times too, but no one would inflict that on a baby.

Or just a really unfortunate choice like Adolf or Mao?

Or something to do with where the baby was conceived - Hot-Tub? Travelodge?

I know a Dash, Echo, Fox and a Blaze. All shit names imo but it’s their chosen names not a lot I can do about it.

DaphneeBridgerton · 23/09/2021 17:38

Another pointless fucking thread

Mayhemmumma · 23/09/2021 17:38

Sorry is it your baby?

No.

You sound awful, mean and very rude. They will not want you in your baby's life if this is how you behave.

littlepeas · 23/09/2021 17:40

My first thoughts were River, Rain, Bear, Wolf - maybe something like Hunter?

I know of a baby called Fable (boy) and think it's absolutely gorgeous.

TheVanguardSix · 23/09/2021 17:41

North West West?

fruitbrute · 23/09/2021 17:41

Pleeeeeease tell us the name OP

TheGrumpyGoat · 23/09/2021 17:42

Well you’ve got a lifetime to get used to it, because it’s his name and it’s not going to change! So you might as well make a start using it now.

Confusedandshaken · 23/09/2021 17:44

The more often you say it the more you will normalise it. Start practicing.

Laiste · 23/09/2021 17:44

@Iwantcauliflowercheese

I fully understand OP. My DSGS has a terrible name. It's a place name. I was embarrassed when people asked his name. I still cringe now, it's that bad.
I immediately thought 'Skegness'! No idea why.

Sorry, just had to share that.

CyclingIsNotOuting · 23/09/2021 17:45

Can you shorten it to something more palatable?

DoofusRick · 23/09/2021 17:45

Is the baby named Troll after dstepgrandmother?

CambsAlways · 23/09/2021 17:49

Name the name I’m imagining allsorts

DelphiniumBlue · 23/09/2021 17:49

@czycoup

It's Balonz isn't it?
Is Balonz a noun? I think it's Mountain or Tree, maybe Cosmos? Hope it's not Sofa or Table.
cuppycakey · 23/09/2021 17:50

Impossible to say without knowing the name......

CambsAlways · 23/09/2021 17:52

To be honest whatever the babies named is really none of your business so to not call the baby by it’s name is very hurtful to the parents! Who cares if you don’t like it, it’s not your baby

LookAtMoiPloise · 23/09/2021 17:53

Any advice on how to move forward?

Perhaps behave like an adult and get over yourself? Are you going to avoid saying it forever?

Frostyniknaks · 23/09/2021 17:53

Is it Grotbags?

LookAtMoiPloise · 23/09/2021 17:53

Is it Atlas?

Chikapu · 23/09/2021 17:55

Is it, professor
Spatula
Coffee table, or
Kallax?

Iwantcauliflowercheese · 23/09/2021 17:56

@DoofusRick

Is the baby named Troll after dstepgrandmother?
Hardly a troll. I've been here for a long time and never trolled anyone. I would actually prefer Skegness which a PP suggested
Tossblanket · 23/09/2021 17:57

Worst thread ever ✊🏻💦

unlikelytobe · 23/09/2021 17:59

Right, OP, you can't tell us the actual name, obviously, but can you think of a name it is like to help us understand? For example, real name is Cricket Bat but you tell us Tennis Racket? Bloody hell, that's a bad example!Smile

VeryQuaintIrene · 23/09/2021 17:59

Knickers? Easy to shorten if so.

ClawedButler · 23/09/2021 18:00

My guesses:

Cheese

Polyp

Spoon
