Ridiculous name for baby

My step son and gf have recently called their newborn a really awful pretentious name. I know it’s their choice but neither me nor my husband can bring ourselves to say it in a sentence. Every time we talk about him we say ‘the baby’ or the ‘little one’. We have been very diplomatic and said things like ‘ oh that’s unusual’ but they have started to notice we don’t use his name in conversation and it’s becoming tense.

Any advice on how to move forward?

Not like a reader would be left in any doubt if they're friends of the parents with such an unusual name

I'm guessing Archibald, it was my grandfather's name but that was ok back in the 1800's when he was born, it isn't so great anymore.
But that can't be right because that isn't a noun, is it something you cannot shorten into a nickname like Bear?

The reason is more about them though. Stormy represents their life before they met, water is the continuity (infinity) of their love for each other and cloud was the ‘silver lining’ when realised they were expecting.

It is totally their choice, of course. I personally think it is a bit naf. I’m just glad they haven’t directly asked us what we think because I’m a terrible liar and would feel so false saying oh that’s lovely which is why we opted for oh that’s unusual. I mean what can you say?

Oh god, I'm wincing with the reasons.

Hopefully Stormy won't ever feel obliged to explain the origin of it.

The kid in me is already aware of several piss taking routes to take with that....He best never have an accident at school.

Although I get the name has personal reasons, the poor child will be bullied.

If not registered yet could you not ask them to consider

My 8 yr old just asked for a drink so I shot this name at him and his reponse was a no giggling (so that's good) straight faced "But that's a girls name you can't call a boy that"

Omg.. Thats truely terrible and utterly yuck inducing story/reasoning... Are the thinking they are 1970's hippies?
I think I'd start a nickname now... You coukd call him SW... A bit American to use initials but better than stormy water

Or you coukd try saying storm with short second syllable... So it sounds like stom.. Which sounds vaguely scandanavian.
I'd be saying he is so tiny for such a big name I think of him more as stom... If you get challenged.
