A Vodafone door to door salesman was doing the rounds on our road earlier with the latest offers that aren't available online apparently... anyway he left his business card and when I saw his name I had to LOL as it was Robin Crowe! His family must love bird names Grin

I knew a girl named Chrystal Shanda Lear. TRUE Her parents thought it was clever. Confused
As soon as she turned 18 she changed it to Elizabeth Mary Lear. We called her Betsy.
Who in their right mind burdens a child with that?

Nc123 · 24/09/2021 17:38

Dick Swett, an American congressman.

Rupert Bear, the solicitor with a practice in Nottingham city centre. I genuinely thought this was some kind of wind up until I discovered that my friend’s parents knew him.

TwinMama6 · 24/09/2021 17:41

@CatalinaCasesolver

Colleague in the US called Randy Bumgardner 🤣
I assume that, somewhere in his family history, someone has misspelled the German surname Baumgartner, which I think means someone who grows trees.
JustThisLastLittleBit · 24/09/2021 17:52

Brothers: Roman and Trojan Warrior. I kid you not.

JustThisLastLittleBit · 24/09/2021 17:54

Also: Jenny Taylor 😢

househuntinginthesouth · 24/09/2021 17:55

I knew someone who had the same first and last name (eg Jackson Jackson or Parker Parker). They had been adopted, so that wasn't their birth name but became their legal name. I didn't believe them until they showed me their driving licence.

Minerbird · 24/09/2021 17:57

Alf Hart

Lemonyfuckit · 24/09/2021 17:57

I once had a (Dutch) colleague called Taco. I picked up his phone at work (it was a trading floor and all phones had to be picked up in two rings) to have someone calling for him called Nacho. To my childish glee I had to shout across the whole trading floor "Taco - I've Nacho on the line for you!"

MonkeyToez · 24/09/2021 17:57

I once knew a guy called Drew Mycock

Also had a teacher called Mr Bate but students often referred to him as Master Bate instead 😅

Nailingnow · 24/09/2021 18:01

Nailingnow · 24/09/2021 18:02

And also the name Abcd

KittenKong · 24/09/2021 18:05

I met a Ryan Ayre.

KittenKong · 24/09/2021 18:06

I also worked with a Teddy Behr. He was not the cuddly sort and noone ever dared point out the obvious bear elephant in the room.

TheChip · 24/09/2021 18:07

Not so much the names, but how insane it sounded at the time. I had a therapist called Michael Jackson and a solicitor called Lara croft.
I had a few raised eyebrows when I mentioned them both. I'm sure some must have thought "this is why she is in therapy"

There was a couple of children who used to live near me, one was called banana.

KittenKong · 24/09/2021 18:08

I also knew a James dean. His parents must’ve known for goodness sake...

Poptasmagorical · 24/09/2021 18:11

My Auntie Janet married a Mr Jackson.

SnottyLottie · 24/09/2021 18:12

I remember in my first job I had to set up an account for a client. We need all his documents and paperwork and one of those included was his deed poll. He changed his name from Saddam Hussain to Barry Jones. It still makes me laugh to this day 😆

satci · 24/09/2021 18:13

@Philandbill

Eileen Over. Married name.
I knew an Eileen Dover
weebarra · 24/09/2021 18:29

@Nailingnow - I was sure L-a was a (racist) urban myth?

RandomCatGenerator · 24/09/2021 18:31

I’ve seen someone swear blind on a thread like this that they’d met the child in question 🙄
