Seen today:

£27.50 for a bobble hat 🙄
£300 for a two hour kids party at softplay, limit 20 kids 😱

Am I just right, or are prices rocketing?

Tesco "hearty meals" lasagne. Strat of the year it was £1.10. Today, £2. Milk gone up from £1.09 to £1.30 in two weeks.

MrsSkylerWhite · 23/09/2021 19:31

Not sure that bobble hats and soft play are part of the RPI assessment Grin

Food and fuel prices though, yes.

I've had parties at home for my dc and when I add everything up have prob spent almost as much as that, bouncy castle hire, party food, party game prizes, balloons, party bags it all adds up. £27 for the hat is a bit much unless it's a branded hat they're under a fiver at primark. I do find the price of everything in general has gone up though or you get less in the pack for the same price.

Ddot · 23/09/2021 20:20

Be careful with fluffy bobble hats, alot are real fur from china. You really don't want to be wearing dog or cat skinned alive on your head.

Chips and gravy from the chippy, £3.50.

Yes the Financial Times had a headline article on inflation and the reader comments were interesting.

Was technical ( and I’m not) but basically said governments have their heads in the sand.

For various reasons the Bank of England is letting inflation rise to 4% and will probably raise interest rates in early 2022.
The comments said - the inflation can’t be controlled. We may or may not go back to something like the 70s but either way no government is considering that head on yet.
Thanks OP for commenting - the more people talk about it maybe the more the Govt will be forced to do something?

Don’t want to be doom and gloom sorry, it is Friday …

Our budget is tiny, income almost halved past year, so we buy the exact same shopping every 6 weeks and make do, it hasnt varied for two years but the cost has almost doubled, we cant make any more cut backs theres nothing left to cut, I try not to think about the next 6 mths...

Generallystruggling · 24/09/2021 09:36

That’s a pricey hat, even the organic ones from Frugi are £20.

That's not good, been there. I made soup from next to nothing. It goes a long way and fills you up, get thin sliced bead (more slices per loaf) . Hope things improve x

notoldjustpastyoung · 24/09/2021 10:48

Where are you buying this bobble hat. Primark, Matalan, lots of cheap places.

Dnaltocs · 24/09/2021 16:32

Not all are equal.
Minimum rate doesn’t give a luxury lifestyle.
Bread and beer are the usual price indicators.
Bread over £1
Beer £6:50
In our area the local Comprehensive school charges children £800 per year for school bus to and from school. Some children cycle then get local bus to and from school.

Those children doing graphic studies are asked to pay £40 for a folder.

£250 for PE kit.

School lunch portions are so small some children take a sandwich too!!!!

Going on a ski trip, again the cost is prohibitive. The rich children go.
Ok let’s send our children to the Grammar school to better themselves. Oops sorry we can’t afford the tutor. Meaning we have yet another generation on minimum wages.

All are equal, total rubbish.

PeachyPeachTrees · 24/09/2021 17:59

Everything is going up in price. Some things a bit and others, like gas and electricity going up a lot.

Ddot · 24/09/2021 18:59

Petrol!

Dnaltocs · 25/09/2021 16:39

I read here that the new petrol doesn’t last as long. Anyone else experienced this?
