How would you fix the worlds problems?

I think i have it, I really do.
Everyone is using food banks, right? unemployment is rife. Depression, anxiety, suicide. Obesity. Anti social behaviour and crime rates.

Okay. Are you ready?

Community gardens and orchards. Free to pick what you like, children's and adults clubs to teach people when to pick, sow, etc. Not just food but flowers. Trees. Perenials such as rhubarb, kale and others. I really think that it could work.

I saw a TED Talk about a town who has a whole community or people who grow food in random places wherever there is a free bit of grass and I swear to god I think it could work really well.

I actually can't see a problem arising and if the problem is 'the economy' well how? Because when people are struggling to pay for food I really dgaf about the economy.
Allotments are a nice idea but many are full and have waiting lists of Years and years.

We have a couple of small, secret almost community gardens in a few big parks in our city and they are really cute, work well. Nobody ruins them and if someone took all of the cucumbers then there is a spirit of 'well I guess they needed them'. Part of the reward is in the growing and outside space and time.

Also flowers. There are so many people living in tiny flats with no or very little outside space. Wouldn't adding a few flowers be nice? Maybe a pear tree or 2.

Its the good life isn't it? A very frequent dream is packing up and living off the land. Well why not communal land? What good is that piece of grass? Needs cutting, is littered all over and what? Pooed on?

I'm not some radical who will go round digging up peoples gardens or anything but I was thinking about a previous poster who said that they sorted out their communal garden in their flats and only after she made it nice did everyone else start using it. Well wouldn't the same happen everywhere?
People pay money to go to botanical gardens, so there is a market for this (if you know what I mean)

There could be communal run compost bins which would dramatically reduce waste and green house gasses. That compost would mean almost no costs because that's the main one isn't it?
Classes could be held at libraries and community centres about seed saving.
Everyone could save their pot noodle pots and yoghurt tubs for plant pots. Arts and crafts fairs could have children painting them, I just can't see a downside.

That is how I would fix the worlds problems anyway.

It won't ever happen if people believe that women would grabby, conniving and aggressive.

Do you believe they can't have those attributes?

Annoyedanddissapointed · 23/09/2021 19:19

@Pollyanna58

Men have been in charge 2000 years (so I've been told) I'd like women to be given the same chance. It won't ever happen if people believe that women would grabby, conniving and aggressive. They aren't likely to vote more women into power are they ? Give women 2000 years to prove themselves ? I don't honestly believe we've got that left.
I voted whoever gave me the best manifesto and has some solid background, regardless of their genitals... I am not going to vote a woman just for the sake of her being a woman.
Annoyedanddissapointed · 23/09/2021 19:23

Not like i can vite anyway actually 🙄

DamnUserName21 · 23/09/2021 19:29

Invite aliens to Earth. They come and, either, destroy us or they come and make things better by ending poverty, disease, pollution, war and violence and starts our space career and eventual United Fed of Planets.

whosaidtha · 23/09/2021 19:29
@whosaidtha - where does the £10k come from to start with?

Should someone who'd disabled and unable to work not get more than the people who are happy to live off the basic income?
10,000 was just an example. I imagine a large chunk would come from scrapping all existing benefits. Not sure where the rest comes from. The benefits system isn't fit for disabled people as it is. I'm not sure this would be better or worse. Probably better for people who are having benefits cut/fined/re-assessed for less as this wouldn't be assessed at all. I was just explaining it not necessarily advocating for it.

savvy7 · 23/09/2021 19:30

I would get rid of money ( I haven't really thought this through though)

DamnUserName21 · 23/09/2021 19:33

Th reign of men goes back much farther...

Ancient Sumeria 4500BC, Ancient China 1250BC, Ancient Indus Civ, 3300BC etc..

Pollyanna58 · 23/09/2021 19:35

Luke Evans Wife I'm not saying that women don't have negative attributes. I'm not even arguing for a perfect world, I just think as a nearly 60 year old woman I have seen, heard, read and experienced some truly misogynistic crap that has affected my life that I honestly believe, if women had been in power for 2000 years, would not have happened. I'm not a man hater, I don't believe that woman would have 'ruled' any better than the male species - different - yes. I don't think there would have been as much war and that might have been a bad thing, because it reduces the population, but equally we (woman) might have had a more joined up thinking regarding the world as a community. There might not have been so much technology, but when you look at the role that women have played in science I don't believe that.

The one thing that do think would have affected the world and how we live, is that I don't think for the majority of women that ego is a driving force and I would have loved to have experienced a world where women had 50% of the power.

RamonaFlowers1 · 23/09/2021 19:36

I think the size of the population is the main problem, so while it's admirable that we've developed cures and preventions for so many illnesses, it maybe hasn't been the best thing for the planet. Serious illness is nature's population control, and we've messed with that quite a lot.

Viviennemary · 23/09/2021 19:39

Incentives for people to limit their families to two children max.

LukeEvansWife · 23/09/2021 19:41

we (woman) might have had a more joined up thinking regarding the world as a community

Genuine question - is there a reason for that or just simply that men have fucked it up and women couldn't do worse?

Ostryga · 23/09/2021 20:03

Women are ‘less disposed to physical violence?’

How many people have been tortured, raped, murdered, absurd, sexually assaulted by women? A tiny percentage compared to the men of history.

How many women set up camps and gas chambers and bombed innocent humans, and started wars and caused genocide? A tiny percentage in the history of the world.

My initial comments were rather blasé. But men are the scourge of this earth,

TheHateIsNotGood · 23/09/2021 20:04

Looking at most of the posts here - my first suggestion would be just do, rather than theorize and ideologically debate, just simply do something without recognition, following any imposed restrictions or anything similar.

Just do 1 little thing, multiply that by 10 and then by several thousands and by all those little individual actions, added together, those little, individual actions eventually do make a difference.

LastSummerHere · 23/09/2021 20:06

@LukeEvansWife

There are two threads active about basically killing men and having a world of only women.

Seriously fucked up people on here

And yet you get so wound up by hypothetical threads about women killing men...which almost never happens in real life.

Tell me, are you this active and pissed off on threads about men's ACTUAL revolting treatment of women..because I don't recall seeing much of you on the feminist boards?

I'm not actually wound up.

I have been at the receiving end of some of that revolting treatment. I was a 15 yo virgin when I was raped.

I went on the feminist boards a few times a couple of years ago under a different name and it was a fairly hideous experience. So no, funnily enough, I don't hang out there

Pay it forward. Lovely movie
LukeEvansWife · 23/09/2021 20:18

I did learn that

Women - brilliant no matter how they behave

Men/trans women - bad

TheHateIsNotGood · 23/09/2021 20:19

I'm not sure what you mean Annandis? I'm happy to explain my post further if you need.

I'm very sorry to hear of your disgusting treatment at men's hands. I truly mean that. 💐

When women speak of killing men, or a world without men, you have to remember that we live with men, we birth them, raise them, love them, make love to them. We don't want them dead ffs...of course we don't. But we do feel a seething white hot rage at men ruining our beloved planet with all the viciousness and violence they enact day after day, hour after hour....and nothing is ever done. It's always minimised and the effects diminished.

And I don't blame women one bit for FANTASIES (because that's what they are...women have no real power) of running the world.

As Tears for Fears once said, we all want to, right?😉

Thank you.

And thank you for explaining it - I get it now. I'm autistic and have very rigid thinking but I think I understand more now.

Autumngoldleaf · 23/09/2021 20:36

I would banish religion entirely but keep the good bits, the morals, parables, stuff about being kind.

Banning religion would instantly lift nearly half the world's women out of a second and third tier life...
I would then ensure an education for all, with tons of sen specialist to intervene from birth onwards.

Teachers and school would have more power and resources and responsibilities to make up for shit parents and yes!! There are plenty of them, intensive courses, interventions... Support etc for struggling families, nutrition etc.

I would also roll out top class health care for all.. Not the NHS but an amalgamation of the best... Run similar to the NHS.

Autumngoldleaf · 23/09/2021 20:38

But I don't believe as things stand throwing money at people would work at all.

LastSummerHere · 23/09/2021 20:40

@LukeEvansWife No bother at all. And thank you too...I can be horribly impatient and you have reminded me to step back and meet halfway far more often than I do. 😊
