How would you fix the worlds problems?

I think i have it, I really do.
Everyone is using food banks, right? unemployment is rife. Depression, anxiety, suicide. Obesity. Anti social behaviour and crime rates.

Okay. Are you ready?

Community gardens and orchards. Free to pick what you like, children's and adults clubs to teach people when to pick, sow, etc. Not just food but flowers. Trees. Perenials such as rhubarb, kale and others. I really think that it could work.

I saw a TED Talk about a town who has a whole community or people who grow food in random places wherever there is a free bit of grass and I swear to god I think it could work really well.

I actually can't see a problem arising and if the problem is 'the economy' well how? Because when people are struggling to pay for food I really dgaf about the economy.
Allotments are a nice idea but many are full and have waiting lists of Years and years.

We have a couple of small, secret almost community gardens in a few big parks in our city and they are really cute, work well. Nobody ruins them and if someone took all of the cucumbers then there is a spirit of 'well I guess they needed them'. Part of the reward is in the growing and outside space and time.

Also flowers. There are so many people living in tiny flats with no or very little outside space. Wouldn't adding a few flowers be nice? Maybe a pear tree or 2.

Its the good life isn't it? A very frequent dream is packing up and living off the land. Well why not communal land? What good is that piece of grass? Needs cutting, is littered all over and what? Pooed on?

I'm not some radical who will go round digging up peoples gardens or anything but I was thinking about a previous poster who said that they sorted out their communal garden in their flats and only after she made it nice did everyone else start using it. Well wouldn't the same happen everywhere?
People pay money to go to botanical gardens, so there is a market for this (if you know what I mean)

There could be communal run compost bins which would dramatically reduce waste and green house gasses. That compost would mean almost no costs because that's the main one isn't it?
Classes could be held at libraries and community centres about seed saving.
Everyone could save their pot noodle pots and yoghurt tubs for plant pots. Arts and crafts fairs could have children painting them, I just can't see a downside.

That is how I would fix the worlds problems anyway.

@Ostryga

Oh we’d harvest their sperm first, and use IVF to only produce female babies.

Easy peasy! You only need one sperm to make a child. We’d have gallons of the stuff, it would last for fucking aaaaaages.

So sexual assault then murder.

I can think of a few posters that would approve.

LukeEvansWife · 23/09/2021 17:17

It's lovely to see the feminine utopia - murder, sexual assault, paying everyone the same so nobody would bother getting educated... fucking hell

whosaidtha · 23/09/2021 18:00

@Lockdownbear

Can those calling for UBI, clarify Does everyone get the same? Regardless of hours worked? Qualifications, training etc?

And what is the difference between UBI and UC?

It replaces UC. Everyone gets a set amount say £10,000. Everyone gets this regardless of income. No more benefits just this basic amount. You don't work for it. Then everything you earn from your job is on top. So if you earn £50,000 your total income would be £60,000. If your job earns 1million you'd get 1million 10 thousand. If you chose not to/can't work you get £10,000.

With the exception of paying everyone the same, you have just described what your precious men have delivered to us all for centuries.

LukeEvansWife · 23/09/2021 18:16

Exactly so why is it acceptable for women to do it?

And 'precious men'? No, I just think a single sex world would be hideous

LukeEvansWife · 23/09/2021 18:17

And no safer

ellyeth · 23/09/2021 18:22

Give women real equality.

Stop producing vile weapons - and, in the case of UK, stop the annual Arms Fair in London (where we have been promoting the sale of guns for "crowd control").

Have a properly operating system that prevents huge disparities in earnings (though I suppose there's little chance of this because, worldwide, those that make the rules usually benefit from the current system).

ellyeth · 23/09/2021 18:27

The rich obviously pay most of the tax because they receive (I wouldn't say "earn") sometimes hundreds of times more than the average person - and sometimes their wealth exceeds the wealth of entire countries. It is, in my opinion, obscene. And that is despite many of them using various ruses to pay as little tax as possible.

ellyeth · 23/09/2021 18:31

I am not suggesting, as some on here have interpreted suggestions re taxation, that people with less demanding, relatively unskilled jobs should earn the same as people doing highly skilled and very responsible jobs, such as doctors, scientists, etc, etc. It is about narrowing the vast gap between the uber rich and the extremely poor, not about giving everyone the same income.

Pollyanna58 · 23/09/2021 18:33

Whenever this question arises, and people say put women in charge they quote "May, Merkel, Thatcher. How did that work for you ?" Maybe it didn't - but where were the other women throughout the government at the same time ?

45 women have been appointed to Cabinet posts since 1929. Margaret Bondfield was the first ever woman appointed to the Cabinet, having previously become the first woman non-Cabinet minister in 1924.

February 1992 was the last month that there were no female cabinet members. Since then there has consistently been at least one female Cabinet Member, though numbers of women holding positions has fluctuated.

The most women to hold Cabinet posts at any one time is eight. This has happened twice in history, as part of Gordon Brown’s Labour Government and as part of Theresa May’s Conservative Government.(source UK Parliament).

8 - 8 - 8 - 8 - 8 are you getting it yet ? Now when you say to me haha put women in charge, nothing changes - WE HAVE NEVER BEEN IN CHARGE. WHEN YOU CHANGE THAT YOU WILL CHANGE THE WORLD.

LukeEvansWife · 23/09/2021 18:35

WE HAVE NEVER BEEN IN CHARGE. WHEN YOU CHANGE THAT YOU WILL CHANGE THE WORLD.

And not necessarily for the good. If women have never ruled the world, how do we know that they won't monumentally fuck it up too?

Pollyanna58 · 23/09/2021 18:37

Well I'd like to give them the chance - wouldn't you ?

Annoyedanddissapointed · 23/09/2021 18:37

You can capslock as much as you wnatto, but not much would change. I genuinely believe women would equally fuk it up, just in different ways🤷🏻

Lockdownbear · 23/09/2021 18:39

@whosaidtha - where does the £10k come from to start with?

Should someone who'd disabled and unable to work not get more than the people who are happy to live off the basic income?

LukeEvansWife · 23/09/2021 18:44

There are two threads active about basically killing men and having a world of only women.

Seriously fucked up people on here

TheHateIsNotGood · 23/09/2021 18:45

Dramatically reduce (by 90%) the price of any urban land with agreed planning for communal gardening.

Stop paving and start planting to mitigate flooding and water services - even my small back space was unnecessarily paved to make it flatter and/or more convenient. Multiply that by at least 10 and several thousands beyond and that's a lot of run off water that normally would trickle into soil, that enters now enters our waste-water/non sewage systems.

Just a couple of simple measures to help the overall position.

And cats.

Best idea yet

Pollyanna58 · 23/09/2021 19:00

Who said anything about getting rid of men. I'm a very happily married woman to a man. I have a son who is wonderful. This isn't anything to do with man 'hating'. I'm asking a legitimate question - if women really had control - not tokenism - do you think we would be so totally screwed ? Don't you think women view the world in a completely different way to men ? If Putin wasn't in control of Russia, if Trump hadn't been up front and central in the US, Xi Jinping land grabbing in China ? All the other men in positions of power and all those men beneath them feeding their egos ? When and if women are 'allowed' 50% of the say so for the 'common' man don't you think the world would change ?

Annoyedanddissapointed · 23/09/2021 19:02

@FastFood

Replace people by dogs.
Actually that i can get behind😁
LukeEvansWife · 23/09/2021 19:03

No I don't believe that women would run the world any better.

Even if women are less disposed towards physical violence, what makes you think they would run a happy world? They are just as likely to be grabby, conniving and aggressive

And hide away when someone's knocking....🤷🏻
Pollyanna58 · 23/09/2021 19:18

Men have been in charge 2000 years (so I've been told) I'd like women to be given the same chance. It won't ever happen if people believe that women would grabby, conniving and aggressive. They aren't likely to vote more women into power are they ? Give women 2000 years to prove themselves ? I don't honestly believe we've got that left.
