Prince Philip’s mustard prank

Dogmatix34 · 21/09/2021 10:12

I don’t have any very strong feelings about the Royal family except to find it all a bit outdated but I found this story a real sign of how out of touch they are. The thought of my grandfather encouraging me to squirt mustard on to his ceiling! Since he a) wouldn’t have an army of cleaners to clear it up b) only had a small number of rooms to go in to and would not have wanted disgusting mustard all over the place c) didn’t have incredibly high ceilings where perhaps you wouldn’t have noticed.
I could understand if it was squirting mustard outside or maybe on clothes that could be washed but I found that story really jarring. They don’t need to be house proud, they haven’t worked for what they have and have so much.
@Blossomtoes trafficked at the age of 17, so a child not a woman but agree paedophilia is a stretch - by definition it's about prepubescent children.
The age of consent in two of the three locations is 16, so not a child. A 16 year old can legally marry in this country. She was a trafficked woman who was coerced into having sex with far more powerful men. That’s quite bad enough, it doesn’t need to be embroidered.

Lol this thread.

Talk about straw-clutching. Not a plastic bottle 😱

I’m almost jealous of those who have so little else to care about that they can muster (mustard) the energy to give a single solitary fuck about this.

Vicliz24 · 22/09/2021 09:21

I actually thought how normal and fun he sounded. It wouldn't ever have entered my head to be disapproving. We need a collective lighten up

Vicliz24 · 22/09/2021 09:22

@Marmelace

So what do you want to do about it? Shall we dig him up and make him apologise? Ffs

I totally agree with this.

Plumtree391 · 22/09/2021 13:36

I too agree with that.

Fun for him but not the staff who have to clean it up.
Hertsgirl10 · 22/09/2021 18:13

It’s really not that deep.

They aren’t slaves they’re paid to clean up.

They're on mat min wage. I'm sure they have enough to do without that. By that argument, if you had a cleaner would you say to her, ,"you're paid to do that".....No of course not. Normal people wouldn't do it. It's contempt for their minions I'd say.

winnieanddaisy · 22/09/2021 18:33

The DOE was having fun with his grandchildren and it was obviously a very happy memory for them .
As for the forks and spades at Prince Charles estate , surely he would insist that they had wooden handles when purchased. Wooden handles would probably be better quality.

SpacemanDad · 22/09/2021 18:33

@thereisonlyoneofme

Give it a rest, someone always has to find fault with every single thing the Royals do
I’ll always find fault with the fact they live a life of luxury and it’s you and I who pay for it. The monarchy are parasites and should have to work for their income
ElizabethDuncan · 22/09/2021 19:06

I thought the same when I first read it - if it's all true, I agree that this is the behaviour of someone who either isn't use to cleaning up after themselves or didn't care about the mess! So I really hope the parts about it hitting the ceiling and still being there are exaggerated.

I don't think it makes a difference whether it's a summer house, tent or palace - I have to look after what I have because I can't afford to be replacing things all the time and I don't want to live under mustard stains. As OP says, maybe it's easier to live with a mustard stain if you have lots of rooms/houses and so aren't under the mustard stain all the time!

Thisgroupneverceasestoamazeme · 22/09/2021 19:22

I’m completely indifferent but amused that people care enough to get their knickers in a twist…especially the desperate reaches about plastic bottles Grin

Often the funny stories that families reminisce about aren’t all that funny/interesting to outsiders because they’re more about the sense of belonging and connection that comes with sharing the story with other people who had a shared experience

AnnieSnap · 22/09/2021 19:26

@Billlius

The Royal Family preach on and on about the environment and climate change while taking private jets etc etc. Prince Charles won’t have plastic at Highgrove. He makes the gardeners saw off any plastic handles on garden tools and refit them with wooden handles. It’s in the Highgrove book. So why do they have plastic bottles for mustard?
And once the bloody thing already has a plastic handle that has been manufactured and transported. Isn’t it even more polluting to remove it unnecessarily and dispose of it? 🤷‍♀️

The Royal family are a hugely expensive, unnecessary anachronism. Time for them to become independent. Take a couple of castles and their outrageous fortune and bugger off. And before anyone winges on about the Queen who “works so hard”. At her peak, she worked 3 days a week for 5 months of the year, or the other rubbish about how much money they bring in from tourists. That is evident nonsense. They would visit and pay plenty of money to visit the palaces!

Muncher75 · 22/09/2021 19:31

What a bunch of miserable old fu**s there are on here! 😂

AnnieSnap · 22/09/2021 19:48

@Max4u

I met Prince Philip and his sense of humour in the time I was with him was very unfunny. He essentially belittled and made fun of those around him to amuse himself. One young women I was with, he made fun of her much to his own amusement and left her red faced and in tears.

I can only speak from my experience but I found him rude, arrogant and very condescending. He wasn't a nice guy in my experience and his staff worked very hard to contain him.

All the sycophantic publicity around him is just in my cynical opinion a counter point to the Prince Andrew scandal and designed to make us think what good eggs they really are deep down. Can't believe people are buying it.

Absolutely @Max4u
ponyexpress22 · 22/09/2021 19:59

He was so openly racist, and so safe in his protection within the royal family that he cared not a hoot what anyone thought of it. His "sense of humour" was usually about putting someone he considered his inferior, down.

Mistymountain · 22/09/2021 20:02

Whene I hear these sort of anecdotes about the Royal family it just confirms my opinion that they are horrible people

Quaggars · 22/09/2021 20:55

Christ on a bike
People really do get their pants in a twist over absolutely anything, don't they?! Grin
I hadn't heard this story, but meh.
Somebody squirted mustard on a ceiling.
Big wow
If they sit there all serene, unsmiling, formal, they're too stiff and out of touch.
If they show they're actually human, you still get people whining.
Can't win sometimes lol (no strong feelings on the Royal Family either way btw)

ponyexpress22 · 22/09/2021 21:43

Can't win sometimes lol (no strong feelings on the Royal Family either

Its true, they can't win and nor should they. Whatever they do it doesn't matter, the whole concept of an unelected "royal family" is wrong on every level.

There’s more uproar here about a prank than
there is in MN about an actual Prince that has sex with kids.
