So little stock on the shelves. Makes the weekly shop a complete nightmare as you just cannot meal plan anymore.

I didn’t vote for this absolute shit storm.

I honestly think most people who voted leave regret it

Parroting this inanely a zillion times does not make it true

I'm in Lancashire. I went to Asda at 3 this afternoon when everything's normally running out but they had everything. Same at Lidl and Morrisons on Friday. We'll, I tell a lie. They had no cheap 2lt bottles of water and no vanilla coke. But hopefully I should be able to live without those! That must be very scary for you going in to your supermarket and all the shelves are completely empty. I hope things improve for you soon.

Not "blindly" @OhWhyNot. Loads of people saw the problems and vocalised them clearly. They were dismissed and accused of scaremongering: Project Fear. The gullible refused to heed the warnings coming from all sides and allowed themselves to be manipulated and conned by lying politicians, self serving egotists, profiteers and foreign government internet trolls.

To be fair, most of my friends who voted leave had decided how to vote long before the referendum was called. Everyone has their own reasons and what they feel is right. And also every one of them thought things would be awkward for a few years before it got better so I don't think the present situation will elicit much regret from them...yet!
EvenleyWitch · 20/09/2021 01:26

I'm in south Northants and half the freezer aisles were empty in Tesco last week. You'd like a large pack of mixed veg, madam?
Sorry- outta luck

OhWhyNot · 20/09/2021 01:51

I am talking about politicians not project fear

They supported overwhelmingly to have a referendum with so little discussion or debate in parliament, how can such a possible momentous change (and it was obvious from the last elections how many people were not happy with our political parties) without careful planning on how should the vote of been leave this would be carried out.

Utter incompetence from so so many MP’s both leave and remain

UrbanRambler · 20/09/2021 03:16

YABU to blame all shortages on Brexit... the pandemic has also had an impact. Also there is a shortage of CO2 for reasons related to problems with electricity power stations, and CO2 is used in the packaging process for many foods.

Also, YABU to despise 17 million people just because they voted differently to you.

adeleh · 20/09/2021 03:19

You are absolutely not being unreasonable.
It is a shitshow.
There was a reason why most world leaders, with the notable exceptions of Putin and Trump, warned us against it.

Nat6999 · 20/09/2021 03:59

There are rumours of an early election, could be next year. Boris is hoping that Covid will carry him to victory, I get the feeling he is in for a big shock.

Marchitectmummy · 20/09/2021 04:51

I didn't vote leave and yet am not blaming Brexit. Educate yourself rather than comfort yourself blaming others, read around the issues if you really want to understand what is happening in the UK and why the same issue is within other European countries.

This. I find it strange that people dislike other people because of how they vote.

Another PP stated that MPs had not debated the referendum before it happened. This is not true. It had been on the cards since Maastricht and debated several times.

lannistunut · 20/09/2021 05:12

@mustlovegin

Voting is done by secret ballot

And polls often get it wrong. So I'm not sure why so many here think they know exactly who the Brexit voters are (and that they are uneducated, etc, etc)

Unless you have had enough of experts Hmm ...

There is detailed political science research which explains the education split, the views of Brexit voters in general. This doesn't mean everyone who voted for Brexit is the same, but as a group are less likely to have A-levels or a degree, older, more likely to hold anti-immigrant, anti-modernisation views.

Apparently he will make the next election about Brexit.
a8mint · 20/09/2021 05:52

@Notthemessiah

It is awful to think how companies are going to have to pay British lorry drivers a decent wage rather than bringing in cheap East European ones to undercut them. Their poor profit margins.
The supply of cheap foreign labour has dried up, so now emplyers will have to up their pay in working class jobs, and virtually everyone on here thinks thats a bad thing? Only 50% of uk hgv licence holders are working in the industry, and most of tbose are over 50,because the status, conditions and pay make wagon driving undesirable
Amboseli · 20/09/2021 06:18

YANBU. As time goes by my contempt for brexiteers only increases. Such foolishness and stupidity. I've ditched the one friend I had who voted brexit.

I don't care if I get flamed. I despise every single person who voted brexit, and if they think their lives will improve as a result of leaving the EU, they're going to be very very disappointed.

malificent7 · 20/09/2021 06:44

My dad voted for Brexit...he suffers from huge cognative dissonance. He's anti immigration but his partner is an immigrant Confused. How she puts up with it i do not know.
He has a phd so he's not uneducated...just wants to go vavk to the 70s for some reason.

malificent7 · 20/09/2021 06:45

Back. I don't despise him but his politics suck.

Gooseysgirl · 20/09/2021 06:51

YANBU

Booknooks · 20/09/2021 06:53

Boris will win the next election sadly unless Labour pull their finger out, I mean why can't they find a leader who at least has a chance of winning.

It really isn't - no other European countries are reporting food shortages.

Can you quote your sources please?

PoshWatchShitShoes · 20/09/2021 06:55

What are the actual positives of Brexit?

Because the negatives are significant and glaringly obvious!!

Suzysunflower · 20/09/2021 06:57

... and I (and quite a few people it seems) despise who voted Brexit for the REAL, MEASURABLE impact that has brought to our professional and personal life. The lack of food on the shelves is only one of the aspects.

Brexiters, you have forgone your future for the sake of a misguided notion of independence.

The uk had voted for 95% of the votes in the European Parliament together with the EU. It was a leading influence within the community. But instead of looking at data leavers reads the Daily Mail and Express and instead of attributing the lowering of the quality of their life to the real cause (the Tory cuts to everything snd the contraction of our economy) they found a easy scapegoat in the 'immigrant'.

Suzysunflower · 20/09/2021 07:00

@Marchitectmummy, the use of the words 'educate yourself' does not miraculously transform an opinion into a solid argument.

MarshaBradyo · 20/09/2021 07:16

News leading on energy and CO2 issues - why isn’t it more this leading to shortages?

kungfupannda · 20/09/2021 07:17

Yes, it’s getting a bit ridiculous on my local supermarket. It started off with fairly random items being unavailable, but recently there have been whole expanses of empty shelves. My Brexit voting in-law is most miffed. ‘I didn’t vote for this!’ Um…
