To despise those that voted for Brexit when I’m doing my weekly shop

So little stock on the shelves. Makes the weekly shop a complete nightmare as you just cannot meal plan anymore.

I didn’t vote for this absolute shit storm.

Typical remainer. Call the other side dim. What a pathetic argument. Same with your socialist pals I expect.

our ingredients of 18% which is just mind blowing. Huge logistics issues have smashed us this year, we just can’t get our stuff delivered to customers as there aren’t enough drivers. There are huge shortages in very significant ingredients and packaging materials. We are big, and will stay afloat, but god the impact is absolutely huge. In the end the consequence of this will have to be higher prices to consumers (definitely) and - over time - job losses I would imagine. And less tax paid.

There are various reasons for all of the above (like the recent fire impacting natural gas supply, the introduction of IR35 leading to drivers changing jobs etc). However without doubt the biggest overall reason is Brexit. This has led to the cost of goods and other raw materials going up, delays and complexities in arrivals of goods, less drivers (and no, British people don’t want the job even when paid more - they have taken it and given up after two weeks as it’s too hard), increased costs and timing of exports. The list is endless.

And honestly, I worked on our Brexit planning team. There has not been one single benefit to us as a result of Brexit. Not one. We have spent hundreds of thousands of pounds just to keep up (for example having to change all our labels) with not a single benefit.

It’s the definition of commercial insanity.

Thanks for sharing this.

HarrietPierce · 19/09/2021 23:38

What tangible benefits are you seeing from your choice of vote Viviennemary ? Tangible not about the feelz.

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/jun/24/boris-johnson-prime-minister-tory-party-britain

"For many of us, his elevation will signal Britain’s abandonment of any claim to be a serious country. It can be claimed that few people realised what a poor prime minister Theresa May would prove until they saw her in Downing Street. With Boris, however, what you see now is almost assuredly what we shall get from him as ruler of Britain.

We can scarcely strip the emperor’s clothes from a man who has built a career, or at least a lurid love life, out of strutting without them. The weekend stories of his domestic affairs are only an aperitif for his future as Britain’s leader. I have a hunch that Johnson will come to regret securing the prize for which he has struggled so long, because the experience of the premiership will lay bare his absolute unfitness for it.

If the Johnson family had stuck to showbusiness like the Osmonds, Marx Brothers or von Trapp family, the world would be a better place. Yet the Tories, in their terror, have elevated a cavorting charlatan to the steps of Downing Street, and they should expect to pay a full forfeit when voters get the message. If the price of Johnson proves to be Corbyn, blame will rest with the Conservative party, which is about to foist a tasteless joke upon the British people – who will not find it funny for long."

That echoes what I've been told - I'm not in the industry, but I do talk to the local supermarket workers - they've said that it's not necessarily that there's a shortage, but there's nowhere near enough drivers available to get the goods delivered to the shelves.

Fatya · 19/09/2021 23:44

I voted leave and I am glad I did. I don't want to be ruled by the EU thanks.

As a PP said, we never were. A good, concise article on the point:

Quite right.

It does no good to criticise people just because they wrongly think the UK used to be unable to make its own laws.

It will only annoy them, they will not change their minds.

TooBigForMyBoots · 19/09/2021 23:51

Boris lied and lied and lied. His decision to back Brexit was for personal gain, not because it was best for the country. Dominic Cummings has said it wasn't of benefit to the UK. Even Reese-Mog said that if there were any benefits they wouldn't be seen for decades.

But Brexit voters are still defending the utter shit show despite knowing they were lied to repeatedly. Brexiteers, you were scammed. You were warned by businesses, politicians and individuals but you wouldn't listen. You were scammed and you took the rest of us down with you.

Brexit voters really fucked things up for Britain. People are going to be cross

'People' are Brexit voters also

While this is true, generally presenting these people with information and evidence doesnt help either. Most will likely be parroting stupid soundbites to their grave.

I see. So no evidence of rule then? Gotcha.

Like the posters on this thread denying the current food shortages despite the fact that it has been on the news all weekend and the government is setting up a committee to deal with the problem. The denial of reality is strong in Brexiteers.

Mmm.... No, I will leave it.
Ilovegreentomatoes · 20/09/2021 00:23

Of course it's got nothing to do with a global pandemic has it ? Let's just pretend covid never happened and blame it all on Brexit fits the narrative better doesn't it?.

Ilovegreentomatoes · 20/09/2021 00:27

Oh and even without brexit maybe these foreign workers would of chosen to go home as life improves in their country.
We can't keep them chained here just so you can have your salmon and fizzy water on the shelf.
Maybe they even got sick of being paid a shitty wage so they could keep your local supermarket stacked or serve your prosecco at your local.

mustlovegin · 20/09/2021 00:28

For some, their lives were shit so they voted Brexit as a big fuck you to the establishment and middle classes that didn't hear their inchoate rage. I get that and part of it's continuing support as things gets shittier is seeing entitled middle classes getting their apple carts upset and raging about fizzy water and not being able to get a nanny

Perhaps this is true. Liberal globalist middle classes threw those who were upset under the bus, and now Brexiteers ignore Remoaners. What's the problem?

TooBigForMyBoots · 20/09/2021 00:36

No one's pretending covid never happened. Everyone's suffering because of it, but Brexit voters committed an act of self harm on this country, so extreme that it weakened us negatively impacted our ability to deal with the difficulties brought by the pandemic.

TooBigForMyBoots · 20/09/2021 00:42

And Brexit is certainly hampering our ability to recover.

OhWhyNot · 20/09/2021 00:55

There is far bigger issues around Brexit

Not being able to buy exactly what we want when we want just shows how privileged so many people are in this country

Save your anger towards the politicians who blindly walked us into this referendum without debate or discussion and they are meant to represent our best interests Hmm
It’s unforgivable that a referendum was held with so so little thought given

mustlovegin · 20/09/2021 01:01

the point of Brexit is to create long term independence, self sufficiency and stability

Remainers don't care. They only worry about salmon, tonic water and shortage of nannies

mustlovegin · 20/09/2021 01:02

who blindly walked us into this referendum

And they were right to 'walk' us into this going by the result. People wanted and still support this

mustlovegin · 20/09/2021 01:07

Those who voted for Brexit in my view generally fit in with the exceptionalist cohort, with many of them being racist also

How do you know who voted for Brexit? Voting is done by secret ballot

mustlovegin · 20/09/2021 01:09

Voting is done by secret ballot

And polls often get it wrong. So I'm not sure why so many here think they know exactly who the Brexit voters are (and that they are uneducated, etc, etc)
