To despise those that voted for Brexit when I’m doing my weekly shop

So little stock on the shelves. Makes the weekly shop a complete nightmare as you just cannot meal plan anymore.

I didn’t vote for this absolute shit storm.

My German family were talking about food shortages there when we visited a few weeks ago.

Good job my freezers were filled in more plentiful times, should last a few months with just two of us.

DaphneDeloresMoorhead · 19/09/2021 20:06

But the point that I still don’t understand is what part of the better with Brexit it is to have less choice and availability of food?

That'll be less immigration. Well I guess that's true, and isn't it working brilliantly ?
More money for the NHS 😂
Control over our borders 😂
Won't be told what to do by the EU 😂

I did read the other day that greengrocers will soon be allowed to weigh in lbs and oz again. Well thank fuck for that, it's worth having no food to buy, as long as the turnips on the shelf can be weighed in imperial..

@mustlovegin

Yes, hate is hate. Sometimes it’s justified though

Wow, words fail me

Words, logic, reason…
Poetrypatty · 19/09/2021 20:08

YANBU - what dismissed as 'project fear' by the idiots who voted Brexit is now looking at the milder end of the spectrum, we have worse to come.

At 52/48 of voters nearly half the voters didn't want it and have to suffer these consequences, with no attempt at all by the government to even acknowledge us let alone apologise. I'm amazed we are all putting up with it and think there will be a boiling point eventually and civil unrest.

Heaven help those who will be choosing between food and heating this winter. The absolute worst of the worst Tory vileness.

ithoughtisawapuddycat · 19/09/2021 20:12

Few items here and there out of stock but not all the time. I'm in the North West.

vera99 · 19/09/2021 20:16

I support a Brexit tax. People who voted for Brexit should pay an additional tax.£20 a week from each of the 17.4 million will almost fund the £350million a week the NHS was promised.I’m sure they’d be supportive of such initiatives. They’re proud of Brexit and will want people to know that they’re the real patriots.

Prices for fresh food in France were up 6.3 percent in August compared to last year...
This follows an increase of 3.8 percent in July...meaning the supermarket checkout is where people living in France are most likely to feel the effects of rising inflation.

Back in June, French agri-food companies said prices would need to increase by 9 percent in order to cover their costs.

London zone 2, no problem so far

FlatteredFool · 19/09/2021 20:18

Oh dear Lord, here's ole copy and paste Hmm

Kendodd · 19/09/2021 20:19

What amazes me is that the people who voted for Brexit aren't angry about all the lies they were told. They're not angry at all and stick up for the politicians who sold them a pack of lies. Why is that?

If I'd voted Leave, and now saw the mess I'd voted for, empty shelves, peace in NI under threat, opportunities for travel (fom) striped from our young people, I'd be fucking furious with the liars and cheats. Leave voters seem to love them more than ever though.

Davros · 19/09/2021 20:21

kendodd you sound hysterical

Stasiland · 19/09/2021 20:22

Lol Conservative home obviously told Clav to pile in Grin

Kendodd · 19/09/2021 20:23

Oh look and here's Clavinova to share her absolutely unconditional love and devotion to Tory brexit. Case in point.

vera99 · 19/09/2021 20:23

If nothing else Clav is persistent and indefatigable in her continued promotion of Brexit and argues her corner well. I have a grudging admiration for her persistence. "Nothing to see here, all is for the best in this the best possible of all worlds".

Poetrypatty · 19/09/2021 20:24

It's a good point, but people rarely like to admit they were duped or got it wrong. Instead they'll say things like 'yes we knew this would happen' Even though they were told it wouldn't.

DeepaBeesKit · 19/09/2021 20:26

I'm in the south east. I went to sainsburys at 10.30 saturday morning and the shelves were full, no trouble getting anything. I buy mainly fresh produce (meat, fish, eggs, fruit, veg, milk, butter, cheese) and store cupboard type ingredients" so tinned tomatoes, beans, lentils, flour, sugar, butter, rice, pasta etc. They had plenty of bread and also English muffins, croissants, and pitta bread.

There was literally nothing on my list I couldn't get. But then I also just buy standard, I wasnt looking for basics/cheapest versions etc.

Clavinova · 19/09/2021 20:26

What amazes me is that the people who voted for Brexit aren't angry

I spent £31 in Waitrose yesterday (including Teriyaki Salmon Kebabs!) - my till receipt says; "Waitrose offers have saved you £9" - why would I be angry?

Kendodd · 19/09/2021 20:26

kendodd you sound hysterical

Why? I've never seen a single Leave voter take issue with any of the lies they were told. Even the problems they've created in NI, not a single bit of concern about the lies they were told about it.

1dayatatime · 19/09/2021 20:27

@Kendodd

"What amazes me is that the people who voted for Brexit aren't angry about all the lies they were told. They're not angry at all and stick up for the politicians who sold them a pack of lies. Why is that? "

Quite simply because then they would then have to admit they were wrong or gullible in being lied to.

It reminds me of a discussion between two work colleagues A and B.

A wanted to buy an Alfa Romeo car and B said don't do it they are unreliable. A still went ahead and bought the Alfa Romeo which duly turned out to be very unreliable. A was then complaining about the car's unreliability and B then laughed and said I told you so at which point A became very angry and stormed off.

DeepaBeesKit · 19/09/2021 20:28

Also another person aware of food prices rising everywhere not just here. Friends in Spain have been complaining about it for years and family in Australia are always saying how much more it costs there.

purplesequins · 19/09/2021 20:28

@RedToothBrush

What does this actually achieve to 'hate' people for voting a different way.

At this point, you should be blaming the government for fucking up the situation and not putting in counter measures to stop so many of the things we were predicting 5 years ago.

this

the vote is one thing
implementation another all together

it's the government's job to, erm, govern.
they didn't and now it's a mess.

Poetrypatty · 19/09/2021 20:29

How's that going to help someone who lives in the North though Hmm Bit of a long drive.

Not even slightly.
