To despise those that voted for Brexit when I’m doing my weekly shop

So little stock on the shelves. Makes the weekly shop a complete nightmare as you just cannot meal plan anymore.

I didn’t vote for this absolute shit storm.

Sick and tired of a complex and nuanced issue being reduced to Remainers versus the daft racist aged great unwashed. Give over.

True, not all Leavers were racist. Some were very socialist, some did it to destabilise the UK and force a border poll in NI and some voted for Brexit because it was what god wanted.🤦‍♀️

LakieLady · 19/09/2021 17:35

@ilovesooty

I despise anyone who voted for Brexit anyway. In fact I feel even more strongly about Brexiteers who continue to justify their choice.

Shopping availability is only one of the negative repercussions. Others are worse.

They are indeed!

I was supposed to be having a partial knee replacement tomorrow, but it was cancelled because they can't get an anaesthetist. Apparently, a lot of anaesthetists were from EU countries and have gone back.

And when I rang to cancel the taxi I'd booked to take me to the hospital at sparrow's fart, the woman at the taxi company said "Oh no, not another one!" I thought she mean another cancelled booking, and apologised, but she meant another cancelled operation. They'd had loads of people cancelling taxis to hospital, apparently, because of cancelled operations.

Booknooks · 19/09/2021 17:35

Did all old people vote for Brexit then, interesting.

User45829057 · 19/09/2021 17:36

Nothing like a good ol' Brexit thread to waste Sunday afternoon on.

Creamsoda77 · 19/09/2021 17:37

I thought the food shortages were nothing to do with Brexit?

Don't forget the ones that voted Brexit to "Stick it to de politicians and dem lot over in Brusels. Tekin back sovrinty."
Iheartbaby · 19/09/2021 17:37

I voted for brexit and I’m happy I did, so a few shelves are empty, so what. You can’t build an economy on cheap labour from abroad, it’s not fair on British workers who have crap wages and crappy rights. I’m hoping a lot of industries now will have to start treating workers better with better wages and better rights.

FourTeaFallOut · 19/09/2021 17:38

How else is public opinion supposed to be swayed if we cannot clearly link brexit with its consequences?

Of course you can you go, "bugger, I have to go to another shop for my salmon, bloody Brexit". It's not necessary to carry on like this is is a travesty for which you must hold half the population in utter contempt.

I'm not minimising what is coming down the line. I just don't know the breadth and extent of it yet. We'll have to wait and see. I have a lot of concern about how people on tight budgets will cope with the cost of price increases.

If this is the extent of the food shortages in shops, then I think it's just whinging. If this is the beginning of much worse food shortages in shops then this complaining will seem trivial. One way or another, moaning about switching shops or brand for your food won't be symbolic of anything other than how pampered we were or are, depending on how it goes.

whatistheworld · 19/09/2021 17:38

@Billandben444

Weirdly lots i have spoken to wanted to get rid of the Muslims and those that dress differently so voted for Brexit!! I'm hoping these people you speak to aren't friends - do you stand on street corners and conduct surveys with racist strangers?
Of course not friends!! I have spent many days outside Parliament with my EU flag 🤣 and also unfortunately comments like this from my now dead grandmother
Creamsoda77 · 19/09/2021 17:39

@Colourcones

I know there are a few problems but to start a thread because you can't get tonic, sparkling water and salmon stinks of so much entitlement I can't take it seriously. You have tap water . Many people don't have water they can safely drink and have to walk miles to get that. Unbelievable.
Exactly, we have become too entitled.
Clavinova · 19/09/2021 17:39

Oh and for the but but but vaccine brigade nine EU countries, including Portugal, Spain, Ireland, France, Belgium and Italy, have now administered one or both doses of a Covid-19 vaccine to a larger share of their populations than the UK, with a further five having overtaken the US.

Stupid is as stupid does.

Since mid-March (2021) - 20,000 people have died from Covid in Germany, compared to 10,000 people in the UK. Nine EU states, including Belgium and Italy, currently have more deaths per one million population than the UK. Clearly, early roll-out of the vaccine was an important factor in reducing the UK's deaths from Covid. Not stupid at all.

Eleganz · 19/09/2021 17:39
@Eleganz and you fit the profile of a discriminatory remain voter.
Sticks and stones and all that.

Brexit has demonstrably made things worse at a time of national crisis.

It is demonstrably the case evidenced through poll after poll that xenophobia was a key factor in the leave vote. I do not need to justify intolerance to intolerance.

Brexit voters can take a running jump as far as I am concerned. You knew what you were voting for after all.

checkedcloth · 19/09/2021 17:40

@Ilovegreentomatoes sorry it’s tiresome for you. Maybe I can liven it up with sharing with you what it’s like to care for someone in the last hours of their life with covid. When they are asking you to take notes of what they want to say to their loved ones. Shall I ‘trot’ that out for you?

You are sounding more like a twat by the second. It’s serving not served by the way n

@Ilovegreentomatoes

Funny how all the remainers spoke to so many leavers who wanted to leave to get the foreigners out. Utter bullshit .
It wasn’t them all by any means but at least 50%
Creamsoda77 · 19/09/2021 17:40

Ive noticed some shortages but have had no issue with my weekly shop, all the essentials are there....

All these idiots suggesting that wanting some salmon makes me some sort of entitled toff! You know Salmon is just a fish right?

dementedma · 19/09/2021 17:46

I'm a remainer but cant get worked up over a dearth of fizzy water, which is often one of the items quoted. Big deal.

Essential supplies are more worrying but if there are gaps in one item, we just buy something else. It's not a "nightmare". It's a mild inconvenience at the moment. Time will tell how bad it actually gets.

FourTeaFallOut · 19/09/2021 17:48

All these idiots suggesting that wanting some salmon makes me some sort of entitled toff! You know Salmon is just a fish right?

And, fwiw, I'm not reading this as a symbolic salmon, this is definitely about that piece of fish for the op. Grin

theDudesmummy · 19/09/2021 17:48

@Stormyseasallround exactly the point, whether your personal benchmark is to have just the basics to keep your children alive, or you want something nore, matters not in this discussion. It is about how things are getting worse. Starting of course from a position of astounding plenty in comparison to some places.

No matter what happens Britain is never going to be an impoverished wasteland where children walk miles to get water, we all know that. It is stupid to even bring that up. The point is that there were x, y and z available (and not just referring to salmon and sparkining water but to many many commodities and services), and now only z is available. Z is enough, we can manage with z, but people were lied to led to believe that after Brexit there would be plenty of a, b and c to make up forn any deficit of x and y.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 19/09/2021 17:50

I voted remain but YABVU to despise 51% of the population. Some of them might actually be nicer, better people than you.

GlobalForce · 19/09/2021 17:51

I like baked salmon with lemon, green beans and potatoes on a tray bake.

I assume OP is missing what goes with the tonic water?

Hopefully you will find the missing items soon OP.

Whatadolt · 19/09/2021 17:51

I volunteer at a community shop.
The number of items donated by the main supermarkets near by has NOT decreased.
But the number of people wanting to fill a bag has definitely increased.

checkedcloth · 19/09/2021 17:52

I jest about the salmon, although it’s really annoying.

But unlike the selfish Brexit pricks - I do worry about other people. (That tiresome nursing trait eh @Ilovegreentomatoes)

How can this be ok for people on the breadline, who need to budget tightly for their food. Who can’t afford to get more than one bus trip to a supermarket?

OP posts:
Creamsoda77 · 19/09/2021 17:52

Salmon is an expensive meal so i only buy it occasionally. Personally think its a bit too entitled to moan about salmon and sparkling water shortages, my heart bleeds ...

checkedcloth · 19/09/2021 17:54

It was the packed lunch stuff that was annoying. I usually get 20 cocktail sausages and some babybel.

Neither there
