Carrying on from Thread 1.

Haven't seen the OP around, thread 1 is about to run out and someone asked for a new thread.

TBH Roussette I'm convinced Camilla could be made to suck anything up. She's not been called "the laziest woman in England" for nothing, and with Charles (who can hardly afford another divorce) backing her it seems to me she can have precisely what she wants

Right now that appears to be a life semi-detached from him but with all the goodies thrown in, and occasional brow-mopping and tantrum-calming duties. How it'll work out if she's expected to adopt a larger role as Queen is anyone's guess - hence my PP about Charles perhaps finding comparisons unwelcome

Roussette · 21/09/2021 12:18

Nemo...the royal PR machine went in to total overdrive in the rehabilitation if Camilla.

Those who are pro RF, pro Camilla always say...she went low key, she kept her nose clean.
Honestly... what choice did she have after what she'd done???!

ChurchofLatterDayPaints · 21/09/2021 12:18

Sorry @Roussette, I did start counting but began uncontrollably vomiting at the 19th.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 21/09/2021 12:19

the definition of nonce is "a person who commits sexual offences, especially with a child"

I once read that it actually stands for "Not On Normal Courtyard Exercise" - as in they can't be let out for recreation in case other prisoners rearrange their component parts

But whether he's guilty or not Andrew will never see a jail cell (or a courtroom, come to that) so I guess they don't need to worry

Roussette · 21/09/2021 12:22

Interesting "puzzled"

I've read and heard stuff that leads me to think she has a completely separate life from PC, with her DC and GC
For instance, from what I've heard after PPs funeral, within hours she was back in Wiltshire.
Not with her husband but back with her family

Roussette · 21/09/2021 12:24

"Church" I know!

(I always read your name as Pants not Paints Sorry!)

NemoSurprise21 · 21/09/2021 12:24

Twelve months ago I believed that the British Monarchy could be saved if the throne were passed to PW and Kate.

I now believe that it is doomed; PC and Camilla will be its undoing.

Obviously PA's activities have provided a sideshow and serve to illustrate that absolute power corrupts, as if we didn't know this.

However, the treatment of Meghan and Harry, combined with the general continued corruption and entitlement, have not gone unnoticed.

This may have been accepted as normal Establishment privilege in bygone eras, but society has changed, and it will not be tolerated in future.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 21/09/2021 12:25

Duuuhhhh - sorry, thatshould have said "I'm not convinced Camilla could be made to suck anything up"

Changes things somewhat, doesn't it? Blush

BeckyWithTheAverageHair · 21/09/2021 12:33

As for Camilla, I don't get the level of public forgiveness she receives. This woman destroyed PD, a vulnerable 19-year old, in the cruelest way possible. If that scenario were recounted on Mumsnet Relationships, she would be described as the scum of the earth. The woman is a poisonous snob who has wrecked many lives. But let's forgive her and welcome her as our new Queen.

It's amazing what a very highly paid PR man can achieve!

Given that the only member of the royal family less popular than Harry and Megan is Andrew, I don’t think their treatment has had any effect on public opinion generally.

Andrew has to be dealt with and the failure to do so is a spectacular own goal. His protection will be laid at the Queen’s door though and doubtless Charles will dissociate himself from it when he succeeds the throne. If he modernises, makes Buck House a museum as he seems to intend and his coronation gets the crowds out on the streets, he’ll be safe for his inevitably short reign.

The anti monarchists on MN operate an echo chamber. The vast majority of the public either quite like the royal family or don’t care. I’d bet my house on Britain still having a monarchy in 50 years time.

Roussette · 21/09/2021 12:35

Haha yes, somewhat!

I agree Nemo.
People feel differently
I think covid highlighted that no one really noticed the RF weren't around, apart from K&W taking their kids to the pantomime when no one else could go and the absolute privilege of the royal train taking them to scotland during lockdown

Roussette · 21/09/2021 12:37

It'll only be around because the unravelling of it all will take decades.
They won't be here because of popularity

TheKeatingFive · 21/09/2021 12:37

Hmm I had been so focused on Charles as King I hadn’t really considered the impact of Camilla as Queen (or whatever we’re going to call her). Interesting times indeed.

Also I feel for Kate. They can’t afford a divorce there no matter what her esteemed husband does.

WhatWouldKalindaDo · 21/09/2021 12:45

I've just seen in the news that Princess Beatrice gave birth at the weekend, and instead of visiting her with Fergie, Andrew has remained in Scotland instead, presumably to continue to avoid being served with legal papers?

It really shows where his priorities lie (himself). Also, not the actions of someone who is innocent either, putting his need to save his own skin over being there for his daughter and grandchild.

Blossomtoes · 21/09/2021 12:53

I thought the papers had been served via his LA lawyer? At least the judge seems to think so.

Roussette · 21/09/2021 12:56

Served both here and there. And if unnecessary here, even more reason to be with your daughter and not Mummy

Blossomtoes · 21/09/2021 12:58

I don’t imagine his absence is breaking the new parents’ hearts. What use would he be anyway? I don’t suppose he knows one end of a baby from the other.

WhatWouldKalindaDo · 21/09/2021 13:04

Blossomtoes

My dad didn't know one end of a baby from another, but as soon as he could meet his grandchild he was there.

I can't think of any other reason to hide in Balmoral instead of visiting Beatrice, than avoiding service of papers or avoiding the press.

WhatWouldKalindaDo · 21/09/2021 13:04

The other, not another.

NemoSurprise21 · 21/09/2021 13:05

This, 100%

Roussette · 21/09/2021 13:07

Yes, it will involve mountains of constitutional laws to be changed
And it would move at a snails pace.
Every change of government would mean a couple of steps back and legal challenges

ChurchofLatterDayPaints · 21/09/2021 13:17

If something else comes out before the Q dies, it might not take decades.

They just cannot afford any more bad press. JE would've had a lot more to reveal. The PA saga is far from over, and the financial scrutiny of the RF is only going to increase.

Next couple of years will be key. There will be a tipping point for public opinion, and I think we're only one more big revelation away from that.

Blossomtoes · 21/09/2021 13:17

@Roussette

It'll only be around because the unravelling of it all will take decades. They won't be here because of popularity
You’re right, the unraveling would be endless but you underestimate the popularity of the monarchy - or at least overestimate its unpopularity, the vast majority of people don’t care.
Roussette · 21/09/2021 13:25

There's a fine line between not caring and being incensed at any new revelation or headline !
Look at me...quite the royalist. Then became the don't care part. Now just angry about it all. SM contributed to all that, and retiring and having more time to look into stuff
It'll all change and be very precarious when PC takes over.

ponyexpress22 · 21/09/2021 13:36

I think this winter with all the shortages, higher food prices, along with gas and electric shooting up.....all of which will have no affect on the royals, will make even the most ardent royalists waver a bit with their adoration.

The last thing you want to see when your having to struggle to keep warm and fed is seeing the pampered royals flying round in helicopters and chauffered limousines. I could be wrong though. Hmm
