Haven't seen the OP around, thread 1 is about to run out and someone asked for a new thread.

That does not ring true somehow

Why not?

It chimes perfectly with the reports of him throwing things on the floor and demanding his protection officers 'f*cking pick them up'.

WRT to his self-serving activities as trade envoy let's not forget the private meetings with David Rowland tacked into his schedule and his plugging of Rowland's private offshore bank when he was meant to be promoting UK business.

Rowland is another said to have made donations to the Fergie debt fund.

Thanks so much for recommendation @CaveMum

I have lost weight and have more to lose, and walking 3-5miles a day whilst listening to podcasts has helped, so I now have a new interest!

CaveMum · 21/09/2021 09:24

@CathyorClaire I wonder if the statement referred to the fact that I referenced the wrong RAF base in my initial post. Halton and Northolt are fairly close to each other geographically (both outer London area) and as I said DH moved around so much I lose track of them all!

Anyway, 32 (The Royal) Squadron are based out of Northolt and they are responsible for flying the Royals on official engagements when commercial aircraft are not appropriate. Having a plane “on hand” is more cost effective than hiring private aircraft on a regular basis, though military operations for the Squadron are their primary focus.

StoneofDestiny · 21/09/2021 10:00

That does not ring true somehow

Absolutely brings true. The accounts of his abusing palace staff are well documented, so it takes no imagination to believe this account.

StoneofDestiny · 21/09/2021 10:06

See Charles wants to turn Buck Palace (775 rooms) into a museum and Queen doesn't want to. So, she doesn't want to live there (none of them do), it's getting done up at our expense and she thinks it should stay empty apart from a few months when it's open to the public. Unbelievable.

The Winter Palace in St Petersburg is a much visited museum and there is no reason we can't have Buck Palace as one - let it pay its own way.

StoneofDestiny · 21/09/2021 10:07

Rings true not brings true 😂

NemoSurprise21 · 21/09/2021 10:54

Prince Charles and Camilla subjected Princess Diana to extreme and sustained psychological abuse showing no care for her vulnerability or young age. They remain deeply unpopular and score consistently low in public opinion polls. It will be a disaster for the Monarchy if/when PC ascends to the throne.

Prince William and (commoner) Kate taking the throne in his place would be the Monarchy's best chance of survival, but this is unlikely to happen due to PC's selfishness and lack of care about public opinion.

HMTQ is a wonderful woman but has clearly had enough of the shenanigans of the rest of her family, who can blame her at her age. She is in mourning for her much-loved husband who was her rock. I do not blame her for effectively 'sticking her head in the sand'; what else can she do?

PA has long been known to be an entitled ars* and the Emily Maitlis interview was an unmitigated disaster in which he showed himself for the fool he is. Reason enough to motivate more people to join Republic.

Re. Harry and Meghan, I believe there is much more to their story than meets the eye. I am sure that she received some awful treatment at the hands of 'courtiers' and 'the men in grey', maybe not overt racism but definitely classism and unwelcoming treatment which she interpreted as dislike and reacted accordingly. I do not believe much of the 'leaked info.' depicting her as a bully, and see this type of smearing as typical of the Establishment when it is on the back foot.

Harry is clearly not the sharpest tool and definitely appears to have substance abuse issues, but I can understand his bitterness to a family which treated his chosen wife with such disdain and the media which monetise criticism of the pair to the point that his wife felt suicidal. I personally blame PC for abdicating responsibility for bringing up a vulnerable teenage boy who was grieving for his mother to idiots like Tiggy Legge Bourke, when the boy needed a consistent, loving and caring parent in dialogue with him. Harry is now a loose cannon and, quite frankly, I hope he does reveal the truth of growing up in the House of Windsor in order for us 'plebs' to see the full extent of its dysfunctionality.

The Republic hoardings are already going up in major UK cities, and I don't think there is much that can be done to stop the growth of this sentiment.

Possibly the sight of PW and Kate on the throne might save the Monarchy, but I wouldn't put money on it. Too much damage has been done, and AFAIAC, much of it is on Prince Charles.

ChurchofLatterDayPaints · 21/09/2021 11:18

She could admit her second son's a nonce and kick him out, for starters.

Any single one of us could be "wonderful" with that much money and privilege. She's done nothing except please herself at our expense for her entire life.

She's achieved no more than a Hollywood starlet feeding fantasies to the masses; at least Hollywood starlets don't get funded by the taxpayer.

MeanWeedratStew · 21/09/2021 11:23

So many seem to think Kate and William can save the monarchy, but I honestly don't think either one of them works hard enough to turn the tide. Britain has been through such a hard time in recent years that a couple of pampered toffs showing up to patronise them in expensive clothes just won't, I feel, cut the mustard as it once did.

I also think that if they had any decency, they'd have defended Meghan over the "Meghan made Kate cry" story that the press dined out on for years. They're both happy to demand corrections when they don't like their own press narrative, after all. And I don't believe for a moment that they didn't know Meghan was struggling and needed help. I don't know, they just don't seem to look after each other like family, which makes them even more unrelatable IMO.

She’s not going to be here for much longer so it’ll be a museum soon enough.
NemoSurprise21 · 21/09/2021 11:26

I disagree with PA being described as a 'nonce'; I personally reserve that term for men who prey on very young, unconsenting children, which Virginia Roberts definitely was not. However, I do agree that he should face justice in the US and it is wrong for him to be shielded from this.

I feel that HMTQ has served the country well and given the UK stability, but the era in which unquestioning adulation was given to aristocrats is long over, rightly so IMHO.

I can understand those who do not esteem her,, as I believe that there are many skeletons in the family cupboard, and the stench of hypocrisy is strong. Pretence of that nature, and the deliberate misleading of the public, has no place in today's world.

Blossomtoes · 21/09/2021 11:28

She's done nothing except please herself at our expense for her entire life.

She’s done everything except please herself. I’m pretty sure left to her own devices she’d have lived somewhere deep in the country surrounded by horses and dogs dressed in a tweed skirt and a headscarf. This narrative of lives of unbounded luxury are absolutely absurd. The woman has Tupperware on the breakfast table, ffs - my mum had more pretensions than that.

Roussette · 21/09/2021 11:36

Nemo That's a really interesting post and I agree wihh much of it.

I have a take on all of this... I know ppl think PC is desperate to become monarch. I'm not so sure. I think he's inheriting a bucketload of problems purely down to the longevity of the Queen on the throne. How can anything change if the person at the top doesn't change? Everything will be run much the same as 50 years ago.

I think Charles would just like to be a gentleman farmer, and potter round his garden at Highgrove (and if you'd seen Highgrove gardens you'd understand why!)
I imagine Camilla is dreading it too.

A poisoned chalice by my reckoning.

I think K&W come across as eminently suitable, but William in my opinion is quite cold and I'm just not sure them taking over would inject the right change into really what is now an antiquated and outdated system.

Roussette · 21/09/2021 11:41

I really don't agree. If she doesn't like a law she lobbies to be exempt from it.
And the tupperware..... that was a picture from a long time ago or a comment, cant remember which. You can pour from a tupperware into a bone china bowl on an ornate embroidered tablecloth and eat with a solid silver spoon!
The tupperware narrative was provided to us, the masses, to exactly convince you of what you posted!

TheKeatingFive · 21/09/2021 11:46

Oh the Tupperware 😂 😂 😂

Fuck me, the genius PR person who got that out.

She also has access to a seven billion pound jewellery collection.

But no, no. Tupperware.

ChurchofLatterDayPaints · 21/09/2021 11:49

Tupperware makes the 19 mansions all absolutely fair and reasonable.

Where is the batshit emoticon?

Blossomtoes · 21/09/2021 11:50

So you think Charles would like to be a gentleman farmer - which I completely agree with, incidentally - but don’t think his horse mad mother would have enjoyed life much more as a breeder/trainer?

Whichever way you cut it, it’s a gilded cage. No real freedom to live your life as you choose and constantly on display. I also agree that Camilla’s probably dreading the day she’s married to the King, who’d blame her?

Roussette · 21/09/2021 11:53

Tupperware makes the 19 mansions all absolutely fair and reasonable

No no no.
The RF own twenty seven properties in the UK. Apart from a couple of smaller ones, they are estates, palaces, and mansions.

Roussette · 21/09/2021 11:58

Yes I do think that Blossom.
The Queen loves horses and racing. Not so sure on her wanting to be a trainer though.
Whereas PC, despite his faults, does stick up for farmers, is into all ecological and flowers, plants and gardens has been his thing for decades.

We all know about the gilded cage, of course we do. But you can't have unimaginable wealth, an army of servants, aides, cooks, nannies, advisers, press secretaries and more... without it being that. The wealth of the RF is underestimated massively.

I'd love you to read Norman Baker's factual book on it all.

Camilla made a choice didn't she? She was the third wheel in a royal marriage and stuck around. She didn't have to do that, and wait for PC, and then marry the heir to the throne

Blossomtoes · 21/09/2021 12:02

Camilla made a choice didn't she? She was the third wheel in a royal marriage and stuck around. She didn't have to do that, and wait for PC, and then marry the heir to the throne

It was you who brought up her dreading it. 🤷‍♀️ I imagine any one of them would prefer a quiet life like other immensely rich aristocrats.

NemoSurprise21 · 21/09/2021 12:04

As a society, the UK is finally, and very belatedly, recognising the importance of mental health and the stigma surrounding sufferers of MH problems.

In view of the utter cruelty visited on Princess Diana, Meghan and Harry and other members of the family who have cracked under the strain, I see the 'senior Royals' as complete hypocrites.

This family's 'relationships' are characterised by bullying, backstabbing and undermining, laced with a thick topping of hypocrisy.

The public will not stand for many more years of this; the passing of HMTQ will see a sea change and the strength of republicanism should not be underestimated.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 21/09/2021 12:06

So many seem to think Kate and William can save the monarchy, but I honestly don't think either one of them works hard enough to turn the tide

You could well be right, but I guess if they want to improve the general image then they'll have to put the work in - either that or hope to god enough buy the PR about "how hard they work" and carry on keeping their noses clean if they can

About their very light workload though, it's entirely possible it's that way because that's how Charles wants it. Notoriously sensitive - but mainly when it comes to himself - and tetchy about attention being taken away from him, it could be that he's actively avoiding comparisons with a "shiny bright, younger couple" whose popularity ratings are consistently above his own

Roussette · 21/09/2021 12:07

It was you who brought up her dreading it

I know I did? Your point is?

I think she'll be dreading it as she spends a lot of time in Wiltshire away from PC and that won't be so easy when he's monarch. But she made her choice in life, she knew what it entailed so she'll just have to suck it up.

ChurchofLatterDayPaints · 21/09/2021 12:10

Nemo I freely admit to being a pedant, the definition of nonce is "a person who commits sexual offences, especially with a child".

Common usage may associate the word mainly with rapists of preteens but technically VG was still underage so if the cap fits, etc.

Also, there is zero possibility that PA was unaware of JE's far worse sexual crimes on younger girls. Any normal man would have run a mile from Epstein and his island. PA was staying in JE's mansion as late as December 2010. Men only went there for one reason.

NemoSurprise21 · 21/09/2021 12:13

I agree puzzledandpissedoff.

PP was a wise old stick, and the rock of the family.

He disliked his eldest son for good reasons.

PC will be the undoing of the Monarchy. He epitomises the characteristics which are unacceptable to today's younger generations: entitlement, selfishness, superiority, lack of reality and total hypocrisy.

Anyone who can't squeeze their own toothpaste onto the brush should not aspire to being King of a country.

As for Camilla, I don't get the level of public forgiveness she receives. This woman destroyed PD, a vulnerable 19-year old, in the cruelest way possible. If that scenario were recounted on Mumsnet Relationships, she would be described as the scum of the earth. The woman is a poisonous snob who has wrecked many lives. But let's forgive her and welcome her as our new Queen.

What a joke.
