I know this has been done before, and I’ve read many stories, but I need more! Please tell me your creepy stories!

Mine is

Just over 10 years ago, I got pregnant and had a missed miscarriage, and went to hospital to have the D&C to have the baby removed. Exactly a year to the day after the procedure, I woke in the middle of the night. In my half asleep state, I felt like something was watching me, right next to my head, and I moved. Then suddenly, it felt like a rush of wind went over my face and down my body to my feet. It properly woke me up and I went cold. I turned on the light to see if there was anything in my room, nothing was there. Didn’t have any drinks or anything upstairs, no idea what it could have been. But it has always been a comfort to me thinking that it was my baby saying they were ok.

@MrsColon how can you say for certain what someone else has seen?

NonShallot · 19/09/2021 10:02

Quite a recent one for me! I was staying with some friends at a rental cottage which was a very old listed building (150 years plus). I was struggling to sleep in the middle of the night and suddenly heard a door slam really loudly downstairs. I was sharing a room with a friend and it was so loud it woke her up. The downstairs was all open plan and the only door was to the kitchen. I went down to investigate and make sure everything was okay- only to find the kitchen door was wide open and being held open with a weighted door stopper! All the windows were shut as well.

I didn't sleep for the rest of the night!

I could write a book on this sort of stuff as I've experienced so much over the years. Some beautiful & some far from it.

Ones that came to mind after reading some of the replies here...

I had an abortion at 25, kidney disease meant I was very ill with the pregnancy & my DP at the time definitely wasn't good dad material etc, so I decided termination was the best option.

A decade later a friend bought me a sitting with a recommended psychic for my birthday. This lady told me lots of stuff that was very specific & came true, she also said that my daughter was still waiting to join me in life, but she was always with me & understood the abortion that I'd never mentionedConfused. I'd had occasional low down child sized handprints on my walls which was very odd & I sort of fobbed it off in my head as maybe my cats somehow. The psychic mentioned this & said it was my daughter saying hello. I was single at the time & having kids was furthest from my mind & how could she even know I'd seen hand prints. DD eventually came along some 5 years later.
At 2,1/2 & a very early talker, DD told me that "mummy, you got me the best daddy. I knew i had to wait for him for lots of years, but I understand you needed a good daddy for me" she had form for shocking us with things she said, past life stuff & more, but this both shook me & was beautiful at the same time.

My American friend had cancer, we'd chatted the night before as she was starting another round of treatment & was dreading part of it which she described as being like a diving chamber. We chatted for hours & she stopped & said. If I don make it through this, I'm coming to see you, don't be scared if I do.

In the early hours of the morning I was woken by banging in my DHs side of the wardrobe where he keeps his vintage collectible punk stuff. I sat up, thinking it was the cats, but both were lying asleep on the hall floor. Suddenly he room was filled with the smell of a cigarette brand & a perfume that I recognised & reminded me of my friend & I could feel the static in the air giving me goosebumps. But she was alive, so it made no sense... I got the news the next morning that's she'd passed at pretty much the exact time I had this experience. She was an old punk rocker, she'd have loved raking through my husband's VW collection & I think she did

SingingInTheShithouse · 19/09/2021 10:45

With the naked eye, they're usually cells on the retina (optometrists call them 'floaters').

This isn't true. I get floaters & have seen orbs many times. They are very different

SingingInTheShithouse · 19/09/2021 11:31

I've another that this tread reminds me of & as much as I try to rationalise it to myself, I know what I saw & it still creeps the hell out of me decades later .

As a teen my bedroom window backed onto the North Yorkshire moors. Generally a good thing as I could wake up to see deer & more. There was a pavement/alley at the side of the next house to ours which joined the path that went along the edge of the moors at the back yard of our house.

One night I couldn't sleep, & felt compelled to look out of my window. There, just back fro the pavement at the bottom of our garden was what looked like the silhouette of a very very tall & thin man in a brimmed hat & long coat. He was like a black shadow & felt he was looking back at me though I could see no face. It absolutely freaked me out & I jumped back & hid in my bed, scare for hours until I fell asleep as he just felt "off"

I tried to convince myself he was actually the shadow of someone standing in front of the light at the end of the nearby alley, odd in itself to just stand there so long with no obvious dog etc, but it felt better to believe he was human. In reality it made no sense at all as the thin tall shadow man was in too far over to be a shadow from the end of the alley.

About ten years ago I was doing some contract work in a new suite of offices in Chester. Chester was founded, as you may know, as a Roman fort. It was one of the largest Roman fortresses and civilian settlements in the country. There are important pieces of Roman architecture in and around the city such as the Minerva shrine in Edgar’s Field park and the Amphitheatre just outside the walls. You can see an original Roman hypocaust in the basement of Spud-U-Like on Bridge Street. Roman remains can still, to this day, be found in Chester, particularly in the basements of buildings. This has some bearing on what happened, because the offices where I was working was more or less certainly built on top of some of those Roman remains - it’s pretty hard to avoid them, in Chester.

One night a week or so ago, I decided to stay late to finish some work. I was alone in the big open-plan office, on the fifth floor, with nothing but orange-tinted darkness to be seen outside the windows. In the middle of the room was a double row of metal filing cabinets, about 4 feet tall. I was working at a terminal at the other end of the room, on a desk up against the wall so my back was to the room and the windows and filing cabinets were some way off to my left.

I got quite into my work and oblivious of my surroundings, as you do, but at about half 7, a sudden sound made me jump out of my skin. It came from the direction of the filing cabinets. A sharp metallic clang, repeated three times in quick succession, as though someone had struck the cabinets with something metallic. This startled me, but it only happened once so I put it down to 'building sound' and set to work again.

About ten minutes later the sound came again. Bang-bang-bang! Then again - louder and more insistent. BANG BANG BANG! I literally felt my blood run cold, as no way could this sound be attributed to any settling or shifting building noise. These cabinets were only 4 foot high so if there was someone there I'd have been able to see them... unless they were a midget or a child... or were bending down in order to stay out of sight...

The sound came again. BANG BANG! And again, and again, regular now like a drum-beat. I hurriedly shut down the terminal I was working on and got ready to leg it - no way was I going to investigate - when the sound abruptly ceased.

Then, in the sudden silence, a figure rose up from behind the front row of filing cabinets.

At this point I felt the most scared I had ever been in my entire life. I literally could not move.

This figure appeared to be the outline of a man - totally black, like a shadow come to life. I could only see the torso, head and shoulders as it was behind the filing cabinets, but as I watched it walked forwards THROUGH THE CABINETS and marched down the office towards me.

I couldn't even scream as the spectre drew nearer. It was very definitely the outline of a man, with striding legs, swinging arms and an odd-shaped head - it looked like it was wearing a helmet. In one arm the figure appeared to be carrying something long and pointed, almost a metre in length and about two inches wide. And as it came nearer to I, I noticed the weirdest thing of all about the apparition. I noticed that it wasn't solid at all.

It was composed of tiny black spheres about the size of a marble, arranged in the three-dimensional shape of a man.

I remember seeing the hand of this shape, the fingers opening and closing as it marched closer and closer, the fingers made of individual black marbles...

It was coming straight for me but I still couldn’t move. And, as it passed by me, it paused - AND TURNED TO LOOK STRAIGHT AT ME with its featureless ‘face’ of tiny black spheres. As though it had just noticed me. And then it thrust the object in its hand straight into my stomach.

I looked down to see the sword, or blade, or whatever it was, made up of little black marbles, slide into my body just above my belly-button. It didn’t hurt. It was a strange, satisfying, almost euphoric feeling, like you get when you sink into a hot bath, or scratch an itch. It spread out from my guts over my whole body, a tingling wave of almost unbearable, tickling torment. Then there was this intense, rushing feeling, as if I was falling from a great height, and then I must have fainted.

I came to some time later, clutching something in my right hand. Looking at my watch, I saw that hours had passed, it was now 10 pm. Remembering the shadow figure I leapt up, my left hand probing my stomach. There was no blood, no wound, nothing. No indication that anything had happened. And then came the most terrifying thing of all. A deep, resonant voice spoke, quite distinctly, into my left ear from over my shoulder. It said, ‘Quis est? Amicus vel hostis?’

I can’t recall clearly exactly what happened in the moments after I heard this challenge. I only recall flashes of memory; screaming and running, bashing through doors and clattering down stairs. I eventually came to my senses in the lobby, panting and sweating, glaring around in confused, terrified panic. Two security guards were approaching me making calming gestures and saying, ‘put the weapon down, sir.’ I glanced for the first time at the object I’d picked up from the office floor before I’d fled the office. It was (I found out later when describing it to a local historian) a gladius; a Roman sword - the primary weapon of a Roman footsoldier. Even as I stared at it, the blade transformed into a multitude of black spheres and a jolt like an electric shock ran from the handle of the weapon through my hand and up my arm. I let it go and it fell to the floor, the black spheres rolling in all directions before vanishing completely.

The security guards say they saw none of this, and that I took the sword with me when I left, but I swear it’s true. In any case, there is no trace of the sword anywhere in my hotel room, or the office, after the security guards searched for it. I bet though, if you look in the basement of the office block, you’ll find an ancient Roman relic, that of a gladius.

I refused to go back to the office, in fact refused point blank to even go back into the building, and lost the contract.

BunnytheFriendlyDragon · 19/09/2021 11:53

@Jevarakh this was a week ago? Strange the security guards saw something different to you. Maybe it was more than just seeing something.

Patbutchersarrow · 19/09/2021 12:11

Well that's terrifying Jevarakh. Mine's nothing compared to that but scared me all the same. One night after reading one of these threads (why do I do it?) my dh woke me going to the toilet I was just lying there waiting to fall back to sleep when I felt freezing cold all of a sudden and the quilt started to be slowly pulled away from me I could still hear dh in the loo so I was alone in the room, dh came back in a moment later asked if I was awake and why was it so cold in the bedroom had I left the window open? I said no and told him what had happened there was a sense of evil in the room for a good while after we prayed for ages to make it go away. I've had quite a few things happen over the years like being in bed alone in the house and I've heard footsteps go around the bed and someone sit on the bed I thought it was dh till I sat up and realised no one was there dh wasn't even home!

Mammyloveswine · 19/09/2021 12:32

@Jevarakh according to google it means "who is it? Friend or foe? 😱

Jevarakh · 19/09/2021 12:41

Bunny, it was in 2008 - so more than ten years ago.

Mammy, yes, I was aware of that.

I have great difficulty believing your story. It is far too detailed and reads like a story. I could even guess what was coming next. I am open to the world, though do not believe we have any evidence that the things we experience have agency. Also, the marble thing I think I have seen that in a film.

Lahhdjdknwbjshdhb · 19/09/2021 13:10

I have experienced many creepy/ mysterious events, but two things stand out....

I went on a short break to the seaside with my parents and newborn, staying in an old fisherman’s cottage. Had a lovely time. My dad made a video to show my DH on our return... filmed each room in silence. When we showed my DH the video, we heard a man’s voice whispering over the video Shock. It was a deep voice with thick accent so difficult to make out what he was saying. It was most definitely not me or my mum/ baby in the background. It sent shivers down our spines, it was really creepy. My dad does not have the technical skills to play a prank like this and we all heard it!

The second event was when I was getting ready to go back to work after mat leave in January 2020. I was having a big spring clean, going through all our cupboards. I suddenly had this big emotional wave come over me and started crying, I heard a voice in my head saying these days are over. Things will never be the same again, all this stuff / life as we know shouldn’t be take for granted... that soon an event would happen that would change the world forever. That it would set in motion a chain of events Confused which would lead to a massive change in living standards and the world as we know it. It was really weird and I tried to dismiss it but couldn’t... it was a sense of impending doom. 6 weeks after returning to work Covid hit and it all made sense.

Atla · 19/09/2021 13:33

I used to work in an A&E in a small hospital with a minor injuries dept that closed overnight. On the night shift our duties included cleaning the various rooms and cubicles and set up ready for the next day.

So, it was about midnight, the department had emptied out. Myself and another colleague were on duty - we had a few patients awaiting transfer/admission to medical beds but it was pretty quiet. I got all my cleaning gear and walked down the corridor into the empty MI area, one room had been used as a plaster room and was a real mess, so I paused for a second in the doorway and sighed/mentally cursed whoever hadn't cleaned up after themselves. I then heard someone whisper in my ear - similar sound to when a little kid pretends to whisper a secret right in your ear so whispery-sounds not actual words, prob only about 5 seconds but I absolutely heard it.

I have never turned around so fast in my life - was convinced someone was actually there but dept was empty - I know because I still had to clean it!

Lots of night shifts there and it only happened the once, although sometimes I just used to feel like someone else was there.

sachaf08 · 19/09/2021 13:35

@Lahhdjdknwbjshdhb that’s funny you should say that about covid- I got engaged in Feb 2019, and booked the wedding for October 2020. All through summer 2019 I had this horrible feeling of anxiety that something terrible was going to happen to disrupt our lives and ruin the wedding. I actually imagined something more like a family member dying, but when the pandemic hit I realised, THIS is what I’ve been waiting on happening. It was almost a strange sense of relief that my sense of impending doom was almost confirmed/justified.

Also, I’ve never been one to believe in ghosts etc but I did have an odd experience this summer. I was on a trip away with some friends staying in an old (1600s) Airbnb. Myself and two others shared the attic room. I really struggled to get to sleep, I felt a bit uneasy and was far too warm.

When I did eventually drift off, I suddenly became aware that my legs were nice and cool, and then had the sensation that the duvet was ripped off me 😬 I woke up in a panic, the duvet was on the floor at the bottom of the bed. I convinced myself it had fallen off and went to sleep(a couple of hours later once my heart had stopped racing!).

In the morning, one of the other girls in my room said she’d had horrible nightmares about people standing over her bed. The following night, we were all woken up by one of the girls in the room below ours screaming in sheer terror, she said she had a dream that the caretaker we had seen in the garden earlier was standing over her😳 and another girl in that room had been having a similar nightmare at the same time.

As I said I’m not one to believe in this stuff but there was a v odd feeling in that house.

@Jevarakh I live near Chester and have heard similar stories as yours. I worked with someone who used to work in the Thornton's shop and they told a tale of a Roman centurion marching through the shop after shop hours. If I remember rightly the spirit marched through the cellar?

I could be wrong though on that, but they definitely said they had seen a Roman soldier march past them, this was a person who was scrupulously honest so I believed them. They described the uniform exactly but interestingly they only appeared from the shin upwards. Turns out when they marched, the road would have been lower than it was now.

I woke up in the middle of the night, saw a disc of light spinning and sparkling next to the bed. I woke XH up, he said "it's OK, it's just the spinning light disc" and went back to sleep. WTF was it?

If he hadn't said that, I would have put it down to migraine. But he did...

Mum and dad saw exactly the same thing a few years ago. Weird!!

Ive had exactly this in a York shop cellar, a whole bloody bunch of footless centurions marching through a wall

I can see why the made up of marbles that fell apart description, sounds dubious though. Never heard of that before other than in a film. I suspect the story is true, but maybe embellished a bit, or perhaps struggled with describing accurately what they saw. I have seen things materialise & dematerialise in front of me & it's hard to describe, I wouldn't have chosen marbles though, but who knows

My exh grandmother was in hospital she was 0k just a small procedure I believe she was due home in a couple of days I woke up around 3am one Sunday no reason just woke up feeling sad and happy at the same time very peaceful so I started my day but I felt like I was waiting for something? My phone rang at 7am my ex husband ringing to say he wouldn't be getting the kids that day because his nan had died this didn't come as a shock to me as I seemed to already know it was weird like I was expecting his call there was no reason why she died she just went

She died around 3am

RiotAtTheRodeo · 19/09/2021 14:26

I was staying at a boyfriend's grandmother's house. Beautiful home, a Georgian rectory style house. Was coming down to join the family for breakfast in the morning and didn't want to be late so was hurrying down but did see an old labrador snoozing in a patch of sunlight on the landing. At the breakfast table I mentioned this and asked what the dog's name was. Apparently this was the grandmother's much adored dog that had died 5 years previously. I definitely saw him though. His GM adored me after that. I was obviously a very special person if her dog had chosen to make an appearance to me! Grin

Not quite on the level of an infantry of footless Roman centurions!
