Why are TV ads so irritating?

The perfumes thread made me think of it, because the ads for the Marc Jacobs perfumes are so irritating eg

Daisy Daisy Daisy Daisy

I'm so perfect perfect perfect perfect

And then the British Gas ads with the really loud irritating music

and the really irritating Just Eat jingle.

AAAAAGGGHHHH.

Or am I just a grumpy old woman? I know they're probably trying to be down with the kids, but kids don't watch linear TV anymore.

Pretty sure I saw an Oxo one the other day where a mum was going for a movie night with her mates because all the kids had plans. However the kids’ plans were cancelled so she stays in to make pasta. SHE HAS A DH!!! Who says smugly “Good movie night then?” And she replies “Yeah, good night in alone” and laugh. i just love sexist adverts.

ILoveeCakes · 17/12/2022 20:14

Not that I watch live/advert TV, but I thought they were all doing "Poverty Porn" at the moment.

You know, "Oh, we're all so poor but happy because I made a present out of an old nappy"

Not just telly, Times Radio ads make me want to scream. The worst one is for the building society (can’t remember which one, am too busy scrabbling to turn down the volume) with the terrible family. I have no idea if it’s supposed to be funny, relatable? Or, what it actually is which is just shit.

Think you may have misunderstood this one (as I’ve seen it ten thousand times!)

She doesn’t cancel her plans- her friend does. And dad cooks 🤷‍♀️

The one driving me mad at the mo is the MacDonalds Xmas ad. The kid is, what, 10? And he’s NEVER written a Xmas list?!

The nationwide ones with the girls talking and one says i think im an independent woman etc, drives me fucking nuts. Banks make money out of being overdrawn.
