'Quoting the OPs OP" WHAT IS THIS MADNESS?

FionasFanjoFondu · 17/09/2021 11:42

The newish 'quote' function is great for when you want to answer a specific poster within the thread. If you are just responding to the original OP, you really REALLY don't need to select 'quote' and include the whole fucking opening post before you respond.

The assumption is, that unless you reference a different post - either by poster name or by 'quoting' their post, you are RESPONDING TO THE ORIGINAL POST.

Reams of screen taken up be repetition of the OP is nonsense. Please stop. It is driving me batshit.

If the quote function is greyed out on a post, it means it can't be automatically quoted because it already has one.

CloudsOfCeonothus · 17/09/2021 17:40
@CloudsOfCeonothus

You can only quote one post. If a post already has a quote, you'd need to manually copy and paste them in your post.

Then someone else can quote your post because it doesn't have an automatic quote.
Aaaaah! Like this! Magic.

Thank @whenthebellsring Star Everyone was making it look so easy Grin

@FionasFanjoFondu

Oh FFS I walked into that.

Glad you all agree though :)

I might now have to @ each and everyone of you to acknowledge your comments. Hang on......

I will not be satisfied with a common @

I demand a beautifully duplicated constructed pm to my inbox, & am prepared to repeat myself until you comply.

@ChargingBuck

Totally agree with your OP, OP.

THERE OUGHT TO BE A LAW.

Or MN could develop/deploy some sensible software instead of this shed.

Tal45 · 17/09/2021 18:00

What fucks me off is that you can't quote someone if they've quoted someone else. What the fuck is that about?

Does the quote function work on the app? Could someone let me know how to use it on the app please?

Press the little arrow by the time of the post. That brings up options including quote
Letsgetquizzy · 17/09/2021 20:47

See, I quite like it. I hate it when I have to scroll miles back in a thread because someone's written something in response to a PP and I can't remember the original comment (not least as I hardly notice anyone's name).

This could just be me, however, as I appear to have the memory capacity of a goldfish since having DC.

I agree it's a new thing and it needs to be nipped in the bud. Quote is for pithy responses you agree with on page 20 of a thread

Until now, I had wrongly presumed quotes were a ‘premium’ feature.

Does anyone know happens if you use the ‘reply’ option on an OP?

This is absolutely fine. Indeed it is extremely helpful.

However, what this thread is about is posters who quote the OP...

But this OP is in reference to people repeatedly quoting the original opening story from the OP, which is quite long. Quoting other comments as the thread progresses makes sense. The assumption that people simply replying are applying to the original statement, doesn't require a quote
