'Quoting the OPs OP" WHAT IS THIS MADNESS?

FionasFanjoFondu · 17/09/2021 11:42

The newish 'quote' function is great for when you want to answer a specific poster within the thread. If you are just responding to the original OP, you really REALLY don't need to select 'quote' and include the whole fucking opening post before you respond.

The assumption is, that unless you reference a different post - either by poster name or by 'quoting' their post, you are RESPONDING TO THE ORIGINAL POST.

Reams of screen taken up be repetition of the OP is nonsense. Please stop. It is driving me batshit.

God I agree. Totally annoying.
MilkchopsMcgee · 17/09/2021 12:50

@JaneJeffer

I'm just grateful that we can't quote a post which contains quote!
No your notGrin

Well it would be funny on this thread at least but yes it's cherry annoying when it's misused

whenthebellsring · 17/09/2021 12:57

I could actually copy and paste all the posts and quotes on this thread, and agree with them all.

Now MN might explode!

FionasFanjoFondu · 17/09/2021 13:00

There should be a checklist when you hit 'quote' - like a safety barrier.

1 are you sure you need to quote the OP?

Yes/No

  1. If you selected Yes, think about your response. Could it be mistakenly attributed to a different poster?

Yes/No

  1. Do you understand that your post will be irritating and incur a mark against you in various poster spreadsheets?

Yes/No

  1. Before you proceed with the quote, consider your own intended post. Will your reply add value to the thread?

Yes/No

  1. Will your response consist of a substantial resolution that the OP can immediately implement and refer back to specific elements of the OP alongside specific solutions thus rendering the need to quote valid?

Yes/No

  1. If no. Do Not Press Quote.
  1. If you still wish to quote the OP, click here.
  1. Are you absolutely sure?

Yes/No

  1. Ffs. Go on then

SCREEN FREEZE.

I may post in MN Stuff and see if something like this can be implemented.

Meh, it really doesn’t bother me 🤷🏼‍♀️
liveforsummer · 17/09/2021 13:05

It usually happens within the first couple of posts too when the actual OP is right there. Maddening!

@Macncheeseballs

So where is this quote function
On the app you just swipe the comment you want to respond to to the left and it gives options.

Quoting the Op's Op - do people really do this? Outrageous!

At least we can't quote a quote.
Or quote a quote of a quote

I've seen that on some forums

Yes it's absolutely crazy no idea why anyone does it 😀
MolyHolyGuacamole · 17/09/2021 15:16

Yes, please add this to the list along with

  • responds to a specific poster WITHOUT quoting: 'I didn't suggest that!' What didn't you suggest? Who are you referring to?
  • just @'s someone saying 'yes I agree' agree with what? Am I supposed to scroll all the way back up to find that user's statement? Again, use the quote function

And the worst of all time...

  • 'place marking'. I don't know how people still can't figure out the 'bookmark' tool.

I agree OP.

Oh and another pet peeve to add to the list! Quoting someone without actually using the quote function or making the text bold making it look like the poster's own comment then getting confused when they reply all in the same post and having to reread it again Confused
