To hate the phrase “double jabbed”

MrsRobbieHart · 17/09/2021 10:53

(But also lighthearted Grin)

I hate the double part and I hate the jabbed part individually and the two combined.

It’s not double. You haven’t been doubly vaccinated, just fully vaccinated. If you only have the first one, you’re only partially vaccinated. So the second one is the completion of the vaccination- right? Not double the vaccination.

And jabbed is just yuck. I know I’m probably UR on this count as jabbed is a very commonly used term for a vaccination. It never bothered me before the term “double jabbed” came into usage. Now it makes me Hmm

And people saying “I’m double jabbed” makes me want to scream. “I have been double jabbed” would be slightly more acceptable.

You can all tell me how UR I am now

DrHildegardeLanstrom · 17/09/2021 12:51

I hated it when the PM kept saying needles in arms/jabs in arms

Geamhradh · 17/09/2021 12:52

It's face covering for me.

How to sound politically correct and end up sounding like a thick drip in one fell swoop.
I know people made masks out of their Nan's old winceyette bloomers but the phrase "face covering" just conjured images of people walking into lampposts because they'd covered their head in a pair of pants.

I noted after the initial Boris-led "wear a face covering if you can" stuff people did actually begin to cope with the word "mask" without needing psychological help.

DrHildegardeLanstrom · 17/09/2021 12:54

"If we can get as many needles in arms as possible"

StoneofDestiny · 17/09/2021 12:55

It’s jagged in Scotland if that helps your sensitivities - two jags a la Prescott 😀

Mercurial123 · 17/09/2021 12:55

Doesn't bother me the OTT reactions such as "shudder"are ridiculous.

DrHildegardeLanstrom · 17/09/2021 12:55

"It's face covering for me." @Geamhradh that's because a mask is PPE and it is to make the distinction between the bit of cloth and people who actually need a face mask for PPE.

WoozySnoozy · 17/09/2021 12:57

Triple jabbed reminds me of triple cooked chips. Always wonder what the 3 ways are and why they aren't burnt.

Shuddering is probably the least OTT of the OTT reactions so I’ll take it Grin

Jabbed is wrong. It's double jagged. Nothing wrong with "double". You had two Covid jags. Or with "I'm". I'm double dinnered (greedy!) Soon people will be triple jagged.

What are they telling you by saying they’ve had two jabs? Two jabs containing what?

Guess. You'll be right Grin Or if you're being fussy, use context. You'll still be right.

Talktalkchat · 17/09/2021 13:05

It’s a drug you will have to take for the rest of your life

lazylinguist · 17/09/2021 13:05

But it doesn’t, does it? Because no one uses it for any other vaccination, do they? So when they say “I’m double jabbed” they’re not telling you they’ve been injected with a vaccine twice. They’re telling you they have had both parts of the covid vaccine. Right?

It would be perfectly reasonable to use the same phrase for any other vaccine which required two doses. Having both doses of the vaccine means being jabbed with it twice, so double jabbed is fine imo. It only wouldn't be fine if you were insisting that "I have been jabbed" strictly meant "I have had as many doses as necessary of this particular vaccine". But it doesn't mean that, does it? "I've been jabbed" means "I've had an injection ".

HeyManIJustWantSomeMuesli · 17/09/2021 13:05

I hate it just before they inject you and warn of a 'small scratch'. It sounds like they are going to drag/scrape the needle across your skin and it makes me cringe.

Suzi888 · 17/09/2021 13:05

Pop🤣I hate it too! Fully vaccinated is correct!

SoupDragon · 17/09/2021 13:06

Jabbed is wrong. It's double jagged

Totally and utterly WRONG! I am literally shaking, crying and spitting my tea out in disgust.

Briony123 · 17/09/2021 13:07

I've been irritated by the terminology since the beginning.
Where did the term "self-isolate" come from? We already had the perfectly adequate "quarantine".
"Facial coverings"? Masks, for goodness' sake!
Infuriating.

MrsRobbieHart · 17/09/2021 13:07

Guess. You'll be right grin Or if you're being fussy, use context. You'll still be right.

That’s my point! Grin

But nobody does, so my point is, that what anyone says “I’m double jabbed” they’re not just telling you they’ve had two injections of a vaccine, are they? You know instantly what vaccination they’ve had when they say they’re double jabbed. Right?

"current climate"

BrilloPaddy · 17/09/2021 13:15

"Shielding" is the one that makes me froth at the mouth.

And "CEV".

Briony123 · 17/09/2021 13:19

@Wole

And jabbed just makes it sound like they've whacked a needle in you.
Well, they did. That's why it's called a jab.
LaMontser · 17/09/2021 13:38

Un-fucking-precedented.

Fuck off; fuck off; fuck off.

VeryQuaintIrene · 17/09/2021 13:39

I hate it because I had the Johnson and Johnson vaccination and that's just one shot so no possibility of a double for me!

friendlyflicka · 17/09/2021 13:42

Me too. Hate both bits of it especially the jabbed.
