To hate the phrase “double jabbed”

MrsRobbieHart · 17/09/2021 10:53

(But also lighthearted Grin)

I hate the double part and I hate the jabbed part individually and the two combined.

It’s not double. You haven’t been doubly vaccinated, just fully vaccinated. If you only have the first one, you’re only partially vaccinated. So the second one is the completion of the vaccination- right? Not double the vaccination.

And jabbed is just yuck. I know I’m probably UR on this count as jabbed is a very commonly used term for a vaccination. It never bothered me before the term “double jabbed” came into usage. Now it makes me Hmm

And people saying “I’m double jabbed” makes me want to scream. “I have been double jabbed” would be slightly more acceptable.

You can all tell me how UR I am now

Grin triple jabbed will be the new annoying phrase!

Anniegetyourgun · 17/09/2021 11:31

Did the test and trace thing not get called track and trace in its first few weeks, or am I imagining that? I sometimes catch myself calling it the wrong one even now.

I'm more likely to say "fully vaccinated" than "double jabbed", but let's face it, everyone knows what it's referring to. I mean, if there's a heat wave and everyone says to each other "Hot, isn't it?" you shouldn't need to ask precisely what it is that's hot. In the absence of an actual nearby source of heat they're going to be talking about the weather.

Topseyt · 17/09/2021 11:36

I am fed up of much of the phraseology that has sprung up around Covid.

Not really this one though. Jabbed isn't new. When I was growing up all vaccinations were known as jabs one way or another.

I am double jabbed. When I get my winter booster I will presumably be triple jabbed. 🤣

I'll run and hide now. 😎

RiotAtTheRodeo · 17/09/2021 11:39

At least it isn't a thread with 114 people explaining that they hate the word moist.

Maestoso · 17/09/2021 11:40

If you've had two vaccinations you are fully vaccinated until you go past the date your booster is due. Like horses and dogs that have annual vaccination boosters. But, if we're overdue for a booster, do we need to start the program again (like horses and dogs)?

MrsScrubbithatescleaning · 17/09/2021 11:40

I'm not double jabbed because I had the one shot Janssen.
So what would you prefer me to say?

Single shot?Wink

MrsRobbieHart · 17/09/2021 11:42

“I’m single shot”

Sounds like how I imagine swallowing glass would feel Grin

Peanutsandchilli · 17/09/2021 11:48

Who cares? Just be grateful that they've been vaccinated.

MrsRobbieHart · 17/09/2021 11:50

I did put lighthearted in the OP. It’s not a serious issue. It’s a niggle. We’re allowed to talk about those as well as the very serious things too, aren’t we? This is a chat forum, not a news channel. Wink

So many stupid phrases I never want to hear again.

Self-isolate is the one I hate. By definition you isolate yourself!

Bitofachinwag · 17/09/2021 12:06

Jab is horrible and not likely to encourage anyone to be vaccinated! , But it is not as horrible as calling it a "shot"

honeyytoast · 17/09/2021 12:06

I just hate people saying jab/jabbed full stop. Just say vaccination. Ffs

lazylinguist · 17/09/2021 12:08

Confused But 'double jabbed' just refers to the fact that you've been injected with vaccine twice! I mean... are you suggesting that when people have only been for their first injection, they should say "I got half-jabbed today"? Grin

lockdownmadnessdotcom · 17/09/2021 12:10

@scoopgalore

Not as bad as people saying track and trace when they mean test and trace. Shudder
Although for me "track" makes just as much sense - ie you track people down or trace them.

I don't like jag for a jab. A needle isn't jaggedy, it's pointy and it jabs you. A glass shard is jaggedy. I know it's a Scottish expression - I just find it weird, sorry.

I am also fed up of people still saying "to comply with social distancing guidelines". There aren't any, and haven't been since 19 July in England. It would be more accurate to write "we are making up out own social distancing guidelines, and therefore require..."

lockdownmadnessdotcom · 17/09/2021 12:10

Or indeed inoculated as I think the only illness you are actually vaccinated against is cowpox?
MrsRobbieHart · 17/09/2021 12:10

But 'double jabbed' just refers to the fact that you've been injected with vaccine twice!

But it doesn’t, does it? Because no one uses it for any other vaccination, do they? So when they say “I’m double jabbed” they’re not telling you they’ve been injected with a vaccine twice. They’re telling you they have had both parts of the covid vaccine. Right?

Absolutely most definitely not! Grin they shouldn’t say jabbed at all

Nothing will beat ‘blended learning’ as the trigger for internal screaming.

znaika · 17/09/2021 12:14

Jagged!!! Wow, how do you pronounce this? 😂
I am another that cannot bear shielding. I'm not against the act of it, just the hideousness of the phrase

Bitofachinwag · 17/09/2021 12:14

Actually, using the verbs "shot" and "jabbed" to mean vaccinating seems like something that people who don't agree with vaccination would do!

Sacredspace · 17/09/2021 12:37

Hate the jabbed bit. Sounds brutal!

Like jabbed but with a g- jag’d.
Chickychickydodah · 17/09/2021 12:44

My hubby says we are binocculated 🤣

Tanyaaah · 17/09/2021 12:44

I HATE "Self Isolate". I have refused to say it so far, have just said "isolate".

Mamette · 17/09/2021 12:48

It’s ok to say “I’m vaccinated” though so I yabu on this bit.

“Double-jabbed” is an adjective… the double-jabbed cohort were able to go abroad..? I think that’s ok 👍
