Does anyone else drink most evenings?

I do. Wine usually, a couple of glasses. It's how I unwind. I do skip some nights. I know it's not great for you but everyone has their vices. It helps me cope and feel happier and more able to 'do' life.

No. It has probably been 2 years since I've had alcohol.
I see fancy drinks online and would love to try one every once in awhile but it's not a good idea with the medications I take.

Tana433 · 16/09/2021 18:46

@ElinoristhenewEnid Im the opposite of you. I hate paying pub prices so buy my alcohol from the supermarket in litre bottles when they are on offer. I love nothing more than putting my headphones on and blasting some great music whilst having a drink or three! Also dont have to worry about getting home afterwards as im already here!

No I don't.
I rarely drink.

Chikapu · 16/09/2021 18:51

@moynomore

Never. If I needed alcohol to be able to cope and ‘do life’ I would be concerned.

Who's saying the need it for this purpose? Unwinding with a glass of wine is hardly needing it to cope and do life. Some people unwind with chocolate, or crisps or watching shit tv or gaming. A couple of glasses of wine an evening does not mean someone can't cope.

The OP literally says it in her first post.

It helps me cope and feel happier and more able to 'do' life

dementedma · 16/09/2021 18:54

Yup. I do

theSunday · 16/09/2021 19:09

No. I rarely drink tbh. I unwind with a cuppa

stealingbeauty · 16/09/2021 19:16

No. I drink roughly twice a week, usually two glasses of wine each time.

LaurieFairyCake · 16/09/2021 19:21

Large gin about 5 out of 7 nights

Diva66 · 16/09/2021 19:26

No

PartyPotato · 16/09/2021 19:28

I don’t drink alcohol every day, but for me it’s because of the calories more than anything else. I reeeeally want a drink by weds/thurs but I wait until the weekend. Otherwise I feel like I’ve wasted a days healthy eating and exercise by spoiling it with alcohol. If wine had no calories, I’d drink it every day!

swelchphr · 16/09/2021 19:29

No. I’ll have a few drinks socially maybe once or twice a month, but I don’t drink by myself or with my partner when it’s just us at home.

SallyWD · 16/09/2021 19:35

I think in reality it's very common - even to drink a bottle of wine a night seems common these days. However, I don't and for me personally it wouldn't be good. Just 2 glasses of wine affects my sleep and makes me feel tired and anxious the next day. I might sound boring but believe me, I used to drink to excess, take recreational drugs etc. I feel much healthier (mentally and physically) and happier if I don't drink every day. You say it helps you "do life" but you'd probably be surprised how much better you felt if you didn't drink most nights.

I got in to this habit but realised how bad it is for me. I now restrict to weekends or special occasions. It really isn’t good for your body or mood.
Bunnyfuller · 16/09/2021 19:46

Yup. Both of us.

seasidehouse · 16/09/2021 19:56

I don't drink , but DP only drinks on an evening that is a day off

AnnieSnap · 16/09/2021 19:57

@SandraOhh I suspect you have posted this because deep down, you know your drinking has become a problem. After all, you wouldn’t post this about any of the other things you do everyday.

Aquarius1 · 16/09/2021 19:58

Yup - large gin or glass of wine 5 nights out of 7

nopuppiesallowed · 16/09/2021 20:01

My mother never drank alcohol - she just didn't like the taste. My dad, coming from a heavy drinking family, always drank heavily. When he was a baby, his mother used to dunk his dummy in whisky to keep him quiet, and she had whisky in her tea every morning at breakfast. At 92, dad decided to control his drinking and no longer drinks spirits. That was a huge step for him and I'm full of admiration for him. I love a sherry or a small glass of wine in the evening as I prepare dinner but I've never been a big drinker. I'd hate the feeling of being out of control and, as a Christian, the bible tells me not to be drunk so it's not an option under any circumstances!

csigeek · 16/09/2021 20:04

Nope. Can count on one hand how many alcoholic beverages I’ve had this year.
My vice is food, so in no way healthier!

33goingon64 · 16/09/2021 20:17

Yes. I have 1 or 2 nights off per week but most nights really enjoy a couple of small glasses of wine (1 with meal and 1 or a half to sip afterwards). It's probably about 14 units per week as they are really small glasses (I deliberately bought the smallest wine glasses you can get for this reason, they hold 125ml).

33goingon64 · 16/09/2021 20:18

I should add, I don't eat much 'bad' stuff, no ice cream, biscuits, chocolate, so I feel wine is my vice.

Chickoletta · 16/09/2021 20:24

DH and I drink most nights and so do most of our friends (teachers, doctors, lawyers etc). I know that I can stop completely when I want to and it doesn’t affect my day to day life. Costs a lot though.

Chickoletta · 16/09/2021 20:28

@wantanotherdog - where does the Bible tell you this?

Lily27 · 16/09/2021 20:29

I did throughout lockdown. Couple of glasses or rose every night. Blood tests showed liver dysfunction which wasn’t there before lockdown. I only have one glass on weekends now. I’d say be careful
