Does anyone else drink most evenings?

I do. Wine usually, a couple of glasses. It's how I unwind. I do skip some nights. I know it's not great for you but everyone has their vices. It helps me cope and feel happier and more able to 'do' life.

until recently I had got into the habit of having a few V&Ts every night.Slippery slope so I only drink on a Friday now.

MintyGreenDream · 15/09/2021 19:12

@ChurchWCat same.To me a bottle of wine is a portion for the night.Anyone who can stop at two glasses is a Saint imo.

LittleGwyneth · 15/09/2021 19:12

I think it depends a bit on the glass size, and whether you can not do it. 125ml most evenings isn't going to kill you. Two glasses which are actually half a bottle, and being unable to cope without it, I would be a bit concerned.

Back2School · 15/09/2021 19:14

Yeah I have a glass of wine most nights. Maybe have one or two nights off a week. It's my treat I guess? I don't eat biscuits, chocolate, crisps, junk food , take aways etc. Have a healthy diet and exercise regulalry. Hopefully it balances out? Who knows...

HeyDugeesCakeBadge · 15/09/2021 19:15

Like pp's I used to, but my anxiety got really bad, I felt sluggish and then got ratty with the kids. Since not drinking I feel so much better for it but if you enjoy it and it's not a problem then go for it.

Just10moreminutesplease · 15/09/2021 19:15

No because I’m worried that I would become dependent on it if I did.

I think it would be easy to become addicted without even realising because it’s so normal to enjoy a drink.

ChampagneLassie · 15/09/2021 19:16

I was drinking 6/7 nights a week before pregnancy...probably 1/2 a bottle of wine most nights, more on weekends. My drinking had crept up seedily over last few years and particularly in lockdown. A lovely silver lining of pregnancy is I don't want it at all. I'm really determined not to go back to that. It definitely can't be good for my long-term health.

DrEllie · 15/09/2021 19:16

Is it getting on the way of your normal life? Do you miss work or meeting people because of it? I realise that people can be damaging themselves medically, but I thought binge drinking was worse for you. Have a look at drunkard.com/ for a liberal look at drinking

ChampagneLassie · 15/09/2021 19:18

I thought my user name was cute but actually reflecting on this now makes me cringe. I was/am an alcoholic. Drinking fine wine and champagne gives a veneer of respectability. I'm going to stay off completely post pregnancy too

knittingaddict · 15/09/2021 19:18

Yes we do, mostly. I love a glass of wine with my evening meal. I have strict limits that I won't go over (half a bottle of wine) and have never been throwing up drunk in my life. I don't like drinking at lunchtime because it makes me sleepy and sluggish and I always drink with food.

However what I do is irrelevant. You will get some saying they drink more than this, which helps to justify your own drinking or some who never touch a drop that might make you feel bad. What matters is how you feel about your own drinking and if you would like to drink less.

RedElephants · 15/09/2021 19:19

As Lanique says basically....
Don't ever ask on here op. You'll be diagnosed as an alcoholic as all the tee totallers fall over themselves to tell you..

SandraOhh · 15/09/2021 19:21

I dont think it affects my life. I get up for work and perform. I just enjoy it.

Yes too much really, two or three gin and tonics most nights, it needs to stop though. The sad thing is that I really look forward to it every day, it keeps me going.

Suzi888 · 15/09/2021 19:22

Yeah. Me and DH both love a glass or three of wine.
Have to cut back, not buy it, buy some nice juices/drinks instead. Feel so much better the next day when we don’t.
It’s our way of winding down and we like the taste, not to get drunk. We try to have a four nights a week where we don’t indulge. Lost so much weight when we quit for awhile.

OrionsAccessory · 15/09/2021 19:23

I used to. Stopped drinking altogether earlier this year when I started suffering from anxiety. The anxiety wasn’t caused by the alcohol but it made it so much worse.

CheekyAFAIK · 15/09/2021 19:23

I drink maybe two nights a week, one or two glasses of something. Pre kids I drank about five times as much!

The fact you're posting on here suggests you're not that comfortable with it. It all depends on whether you could stop, really.

ParkheadParadise · 15/09/2021 19:23

We do most nights.
Some nights we have a bottle of wine with our dinner.
We always have a whisky or two before bed. 🥂🥂🥂

Poptart4 · 15/09/2021 19:23

I drink 4 nights a week, sometimes 3. more out of habit than actually "needing" a drink. I know its not good for me and I should really cut down.

Nutrigrainygoodness · 15/09/2021 19:24

I don't, but I do have a habit of binge drinking when I do go out.

user1471554720 · 15/09/2021 19:24

I drink a glass or two of wine 4 nights a week. I drink 1.5 bottles in total per week. I sometimes cut to 3 nights a week and drink less. I look forward to it as I rarely go out for meals, nights out. Life is very busy and I look forward to it.

Mudandrain · 15/09/2021 19:25

Yup. I have a gin most nights. Just one shot so feel like there are worse things and it relaxes me.

GreenTeaBlackCoffeeAndRedWine · 15/09/2021 19:25

Mumsnet is the wrong place for this question OP. You know we all only drink a thimble of wine every 3rd Christmas.

In reality most adults I know drink a few times a week. I don't drink every night, and rarely more than 2 glasses when I do, but I don't keep too close an eye on it. I don't count units etc so if I fancy a glass of wine on a cold rainy Tuesday night I'm going to have one.

Slippy78 · 15/09/2021 19:26

Yep. I drink every day.

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 15/09/2021 19:27

I buy 4 cans of cider on a Saturday, I have 1 a night and then don't get any until the next Saturday, this is more to do with budget though.

NerrSnerr · 15/09/2021 19:28

I think there has been quite a mix in replies.

I only drink on a Friday and Saturday and try not to have too much but that's because I'm from a family of alcoholics so don't want to ever start on the awful slippery slope. I certainly don't judge those who can happily have a drink every night- at times I wish I was one of them!
