I do. Wine usually, a couple of glasses. It's how I unwind. I do skip some nights. I know it's not great for you but everyone has their vices. It helps me cope and feel happier and more able to 'do' life.

I have wine 🍷🍷 every Sunday at Mass @wantanotherdog

Ugzbugz · 16/09/2021 20:38

Yes Blush

GoGadgetGo · 16/09/2021 20:49

I do and I enjoy it. A couple of beers to relax and chill are delightful.
I have no plans to change in the near future.

Mummadeze · 16/09/2021 20:57

No, I am 47 and have virtually stopped. I drink once every 4-5 months now. I feel awful every time and can’t hack it at all. I don’t know why I haven’t stopped altogether. Peer pressure probably more than anything

Supergirl1958 · 16/09/2021 21:02

@Lanique

Don't ever ask on here op. You'll be diagnosed as an alcoholic as all the tee totallers fall over themselves to tell you.
This! The people on this forum made a pregnant mum sound like an alki based on her pre pregnancy drinking!

Op, each to their own and good for you! Enjoy ❤️

luckylavender · 16/09/2021 21:02

No

nopuppiesallowed · 16/09/2021 21:09

@Chickoletta
In Ephesians chapter 5 verse 18 it says 'And don't get drunk with wine, which leads to reckless living, but be filled with the Spirit'. (It's talking about God's Spirit here - not brandy etc)
Then there's Romans 13 verse 13 and Galatians 5 verse 21. I certainly can't think of anywhere where drinking too much is recommended! But Jesus himself drank wine, so it's not banned either....

VeryQuaintIrene · 16/09/2021 21:14

Jesus turned water into wine, so I think it's clear what he thought about it!

ParkheadParadise · 16/09/2021 21:17

Growing up our Parish Priest was always pished.🥂🥂

gogohm · 16/09/2021 21:20

Not every evening but we go enjoy wine or a beer, perhaps a g&t. Probably drink more than I should but can go days with no drink

DroopyClematis · 16/09/2021 21:26

I suspect most guzzlers won't answer this thread... hic...

peppermintpat · 16/09/2021 21:28

I do and until recently when I actually totalled up my units per week, I didn't really give it a thought. Now I have a few off alcohol nights and drink something soft.

CockSpadget · 16/09/2021 21:36

@wantanotherdog

My mother never drank alcohol - she just didn't like the taste. My dad, coming from a heavy drinking family, always drank heavily. When he was a baby, his mother used to dunk his dummy in whisky to keep him quiet, and she had whisky in her tea every morning at breakfast. At 92, dad decided to control his drinking and no longer drinks spirits. That was a huge step for him and I'm full of admiration for him. I love a sherry or a small glass of wine in the evening as I prepare dinner but I've never been a big drinker. I'd hate the feeling of being out of control and, as a Christian, the bible tells me not to be drunk so it's not an option under any circumstances!
At 92 I'd say if it ain't broke don't fix it!
itbereet · 16/09/2021 21:38

I do, can't reallyremember the last evening that I didn't have a drink. I have a love, hate relationship with alcohol. I stopped for a couple of years, then started again and slowly back to where I was, so going to stop again but really think it should be for good this time...but I love the taste!

Mollymoostoo · 16/09/2021 21:51

No but then I live with an alcoholic and one of us needs to be sober in case something happens in the night.

nopuppiesallowed · 16/09/2021 21:54

Thing is, @ Cockspadget, lots of people have falls at 92, end up in hospital with broken hips and don't come out again. I knew that if dad drank too much and fell during the pandemic and he was hospitalised, he might catch the virus in there. He's a really lovely man and very active - and I want to keep him that way! However, he's also an adult and I wasn't going to nag him. It was his own decision to cut down on his drinking and I'm very proud of him.

Chickoletta · 16/09/2021 21:55

@wantanotherdog - you’re absolutely right. I think many theologians would argue that Paul was writing to a very specific audience here - those establishing the early church in Ephesus, not necessarily in general terms but it’s very hard to argue with St Paul!

I was brought up in a teetotal Methodist family with grandparents who ‘signed the pledge’ at a young age. Again, I would say that the early Methodists were preaching to a very specific audience of miners, labourers etc, amongst whom drinking was a huge problem. John Wesley himself enjoyed a drink as I understand it.

I now work within the CofE and am always a bit surprised at how much drinking is part of their culture. Our Dean and Chapter all drink and entertain generously with wine.

Whatever works for the individual and their own conscience I guess as long as it is not causing social problems as it did for the Ephesians and 19thC miners.

flibberyjibbery8 · 16/09/2021 22:01

No. Calories and disturbs my sleep. Helps me to get to sleep but makes me wake too early.

CockSpadget · 16/09/2021 22:30

@wantanotherdog yes, very true! The spirits obviously haven't impacted his physical health so far to get to 92 and still be active, but totally agree about the falling risk aspect, hadn't thought about that.

TAKESNOSHITSHIRLEY · 16/09/2021 22:31

nope. im 40 and have been complete teetotal my whole life.

CeCeDrake · 16/09/2021 22:43

Nope… but I can’t make it through a day without chocolate or Coke Zero sooo…

nonono1 · 16/09/2021 22:53

Tonight I’ve had two 125ml glasses. I’m slightly annoyed with myself as I was planning a night off, but it’s been a rough day/week and I fancied a treat.

MurielSpriggs · 16/09/2021 22:54

If you're happy with it it's fine. There are much worse things in life to worry about.

Isaidnomorecrisps · 16/09/2021 23:00

Hi yep a glass and a bit almost every night, have it around 6.30 to wind down, cooking for kids or with partner - I find it lasts around 4 nights which seems fine and though I really look forward to it I do stop naturally. I’m early 50s now and was known to knock it back in my youth but can’t stand that drunk feeling anymore.

Bertiebiscuit · 17/09/2021 00:12

Contrary to the unpleasant comments, I am Not teetotal, but drinking every day, or most days is actually Always a problem - alcohol is not a coping strategy and surely this is exactly how alcoholism starts - shouldn't alcohol be a part of a relaxed social evening or a pleasure on a Friday or Saturday night with dinner, or during a night out, rather than a routine - sounds dangerous to me
