Does anyone else drink most evenings?

I do. Wine usually, a couple of glasses. It's how I unwind. I do skip some nights. I know it's not great for you but everyone has their vices. It helps me cope and feel happier and more able to 'do' life.

No, it sounds not alcoholic, but dependant. Because you said you need it to unwind.
I have a bottle over 3 days (So 1 glass each of those nights) once a fortnight, and then 1 or 2 lagers on the alternate week

bellalou1234 · 16/09/2021 18:00

Yes I do, I work shifts so often monday or tuesday are my fri and sat, I try and have a couple of nights off. I'm going back to 9 to.5 soon so hope I can go back to only drinking on a Friday and Saturday and maybe one with sunday lunch

Crinkle77 · 16/09/2021 18:06

I drink 3 nights a week. I don't think it's a good idea to drink every day because you're not giving your liver a break.

doadeer · 16/09/2021 18:08

I used to but after pregnancy, then lots of medication and illness I can't any more. I'm out of the habit which I'm glad about.

Jazzy1814 · 16/09/2021 18:11

I don’t drink three evenings a week but that’s only because I work 😂. I have about 2/3 glasses of wine with dh on all the other evenings and I enjoy it very much.

ElinoristhenewEnid · 16/09/2021 18:12

I am really strange that I cannot drink alcohol at home - I have had bottles of alcohol bought for Christmas etc but they tend to stay unused unless I have people round for dinner.

I do not know why I am like this - I just cannot sit on my sofa and drink alcohol - just feels wrong - any other drinks are fine. No problem drinking in a pub or restaurant.

Confusedandshaken · 16/09/2021 18:14

I used to bit about three years ago I broke the habit and now only drink weekends or if I'm socialising. I average 3/4 alcohol free days a week now.

silverlinin · 16/09/2021 18:15

I used to before I had kids but now it's more like once a month (if that!). Terrible hangovers, even one glass stops me from sleeping properly! Honestly don't know how I used to do it.

Romney981 · 16/09/2021 18:21

I do. Have cut down to one glass per evening as trying to lose weight but used to have two. Sometimes 3, which I know is a whole bottle. At the moment I don't pour until dinner is ready and then savour the one glass.

turndownthevolume · 16/09/2021 18:22

Used to drink more nights than not but I’m now trying a long stretch without it, and have been surprised how big the impact of giving up has been. Drinking dependency is totally normalised in the U.K. but alcohol very rarely brings out the best in people.

FuzzyPuffling · 16/09/2021 18:24

No.

moynomore · 16/09/2021 18:25

I do. Recently started two nights off to do 5:2 though. Never get drunk and the most would be half a bottle shared with my husband over dinner. Used to be more though.

angela99999 · 16/09/2021 18:27

No, I don't drink every evening. It's not that I don't ever drink, but I don't think it's a good habit to get into.

Plumtree391 · 16/09/2021 18:27

Sandra, I don't think two glasses of wine most evenings is going to do you much harm, as long as you eat well.

I have to say two glasses makes me drunk but I'm a lightweight.

moynomore · 16/09/2021 18:28

Never. If I needed alcohol to be able to cope and ‘do life’ I would be concerned.

Who's saying the need it for this purpose? Unwinding with a glass of wine is hardly needing it to cope and do life. Some people unwind with chocolate, or crisps or watching shit tv or gaming. A couple of glasses of wine an evening does not mean someone can't cope.

angela99999 · 16/09/2021 18:28

And I've literally never had a drink by myself.

Autumngoldleaf · 16/09/2021 18:29

Yes and I've had to really pull back. I've stopped for about 8 weeks. Each time I start again I find it harder and harder to only drink at Friday and Saturday... And then moderate amounts..

Overdale · 16/09/2021 18:31

I did, due to work related stress, until it got up to 2 bottles a night, then i stopped and have been teetotal for 8 years now

MrsLargeEmbodied · 16/09/2021 18:31

i do occasionally get into a habit with a lovely cider but have stopped the last couple of weeks as they are fattening

kayteep · 16/09/2021 18:35

I hardly ever drank at home before Covid. My OH is a Chef and before Covid he worked 5 nights a week so I was home alone with the kids and I was never bothered. He was furloughed for 6 months in 2020 then made redundant and then ended up getting a more traditional 9-5 job so is home in an evening so we now have a drink most nights. Nothing major just 1 or 2 glasses of wine or a couple of bottles of beer. Definitely our way of unwinding.

Cotswoldmama · 16/09/2021 18:38

No

grapewine · 16/09/2021 18:38

@SpindleWhorl

This is someone's research Hmm
Yep.
TomFuckery · 16/09/2021 18:40

A year today sober for me
It was a problem for most of my life, a slippery slope
If you feel in control of you're drinking then that's good but you may not be re: your post and you're looking for validation maybe?
Read 'The Sober Diaries', quite an eye opener, and very informative.

Yes I do, a few drinks most nights and more on a weekend.
