To ask you to help me choose between these...?

Hi!

Getting married next year, I can't decide for the life of me which of these two bands I prefer.
I know they are more like an eternity ring, but I have keys said that I'd love something a little more unique and these two definitely fit the bill!

Can you help me choose..? I can't decide and keep looking back and forth between them. I love them both equally! The only leading factor for the ruby is that it's my birthstone and therefore more sentimental to me, sapphire is my mums birthstone though so I suppose it's still really special.

Any preferences?

If it helps, my ring is a pear shape cluster diamond with diamond shoulders. I will pop a photo in the comments! 🙂

As far as I can tell the two rings look the same other than one is blue and one red. I like blue and red, both rings look lovely, so I can’t vote. My hesitation would be after seeing your engagement ring, they don’t seem to go together to me.

Blue Smile

Lobelian · 15/09/2021 13:49

Will the main stone of your engagement ring not hide - or rub over - at least one gem of the band, whichever way you have it? It seems a shame to pay so much money for something you can't see.

steppemum · 15/09/2021 13:51

if you go for one of the ones in the OP, then I would look at what you wear.
If eg you wear a lot of purple/pink, then the red won't go.
if you wear a lot of red, it will look fab.
I prefer the red, but then that is my colour!

We got our rings made by a local silver smith, she made them in white gold, so it may be worth looking at getting something made. It woudl look very pretty to have a ring that sat under the engagement ring with stones either side of the pear shape?

Dacquoise · 15/09/2021 13:56

If you can't decide between them, have both! One as your wedding ring and then work towards the other as your eternity ring.

indecisiveastheycome · 15/09/2021 13:57

Thanks everyone, I'm worried they aren't going to work with my ring. I will definitely be hiding a sapphire / ruby under my pear. That's going to be a shame, but I don't know what else I can do :(

Nothing else I've seen has really hit the mark for me. X

I hope you don't mind me saying but as your engagement ring is so beautiful, I think both will end up detracting and taking away from it.
I'd go for something like the ones I have posted the link to below (apologies that they are from an Irish site but I don't know the names of any jewellery stores in the UK)
www.fields.ie/ladies-platinum-0-15-carat-diamond-wedding-ring-1
or

The two that you have narrowed it down to, do look more like eternity rings and you could always get one for your 1st anniversary or something??

Nosilayak · 15/09/2021 14:04

@ApolloandDaphne sorry to go off thread but I love your nail varnish! What colour and make is it please if you don't mind me asking?

LookItsMeAgain · 15/09/2021 14:11

I'm after clicking on a link that was posted by @OneTC and went browsing and this one jumped out at me:
www.jewelstreet.com/womens-jewellery/rings/18kt-white-gold-full-eternity-ring-with-round-cut-bar-set-diamonds-i/

It is so classically elegant and with your beautiful engagement ring and your lovely slender fingers, this would look wow!

steppemum · 15/09/2021 14:11

this one is designed to sit perfectly round the pear stone

steppemum · 15/09/2021 14:17

or this, it has a gap for the pear stone

www.conciergediamonds.com/product/wedding-band-pear-shaped-diamond-engagement-ring/

I do think that as you have such a specific engagement ring, you are going to need to find something that goes with it for the wedding ring. You are in danger of the two rings shouting at each other, instead of complimenting each other. They need to sit cleanly and comfortably together. A bulky wedding ring pushing against the pear shape on top is not going to sit comfortably. You need a ring that accommodates the pear shape.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 15/09/2021 14:19

Personally i would go for a flat platinum or silver band and have the sapphire ring as an eternity ring, or go for a shaped one as posted above.

steppemum · 15/09/2021 14:20

lots of ideas here

MossRock · 15/09/2021 14:21

I would go for sapphire but ruby is beautiful too.

I think something delicate would compliment your beautiful pear engagement ring.

Like this maybe?

Waitingforthecowstocomehome · 15/09/2021 14:21

Your engagement ring is gorgeous but I don’t think either of the rings work with it. It looks far too busy.

If I were you I would go to a proper jeweller and ask for ideas. It’s not much more expensive to have something specially made, and it would ensure that they do sit together properly. As it is, it looks like there is far too much going on if you were to wear them both.

That said, if you love them that’s all that matters.

Disfordarkchocolate · 15/09/2021 14:24

I'd look for something that was shaped to fit your ring. I did with my first marriage and it looked lovely, much nicer. I prefer the blue stones but I actually think it would go much nicer with something like a citrine.

steppemum · 15/09/2021 14:25

Oh just found this
really unusual, band would sit under the pear and the diamond face away, so like a little echo of the main ring.

www.selinkent.com/collections/rings/products/pear-ring

sorry I'll stop now!!

Sprig1 · 15/09/2021 14:27

Do you need a wedding ring? My engagement ring has quite a large stone and it would have been tricky to find something to sit neatly next to it. I decided not to have a wedding ring at all. I am v happy with my decision. I love my engagement ring on its own.

LookItsMeAgain · 15/09/2021 14:28

Just to add, I have a sapphire & diamond cluster ring as my engagement ring and I have a plain yellow gold wedding band with diamonds inset (the closest image I could find is this one:
www.angara.com/ie/p/round-diamond-half-eternity-band-wrd-sr0704d?stone_grade=i-j%2C+i1-i2&stone_size=2mm&metal_type=yellow+gold&metal_karat=14k&band_width=4+mm&gclid=Cj0KCQjws4aKBhDPARIsAIWH0JUdjYNSwrOPTeqbIqwPYdmOZwzG_dddmIU_P62d9f9GTGH2yhYsuesaAgRVEALw_wcB). They don't go together so I have my wedding band on my left hand and my engagement ring on my right. I also have my eternity ring on my left hand, and it works much better with the wedding band.

So in essence, you should go for whatever works for you and whatever you're comfortable wearing and on which finger you're happiest wearing it!

Draggondragon · 15/09/2021 14:30

I live in theme and have some beautiful rings, many of which have been made in Sri Lanka where we have had the privilege to shape them. I hate the idea of having to wear the same jewellery for the rest of my life, I chop and change. Its not a possession stamp, it's a gem.

mumofbun · 15/09/2021 14:31

I got a wedding ring made to fit around my engagement ring - it was also custom and was more of an unusual shape so i couldn't just buy something off the shelf. I'd look for a local designer and see what they can do!
