To ask you to help me choose between these...?

Hi!

Getting married next year, I can't decide for the life of me which of these two bands I prefer.
I know they are more like an eternity ring, but I have keys said that I'd love something a little more unique and these two definitely fit the bill!

Can you help me choose..? I can't decide and keep looking back and forth between them. I love them both equally! The only leading factor for the ruby is that it's my birthstone and therefore more sentimental to me, sapphire is my mums birthstone though so I suppose it's still really special.

Any preferences?

If it helps, my ring is a pear shape cluster diamond with diamond shoulders. I will pop a photo in the comments! 🙂

@RickJames

Don't want to be a Debbie Downer but Sapphires are easily damaged (as are rubies) will the engagement ring rub against the stones or press against them? You might end up with the stones scratched or cracked. I've broken sapphires in a band myself. Diamonds are really tough and would be unlikely to get damaged.

Nice rings though!

That never stopped Catherine or Diana!

Personally I'm not a fan of the style, but the blue one looks miles better

indecisiveastheycome · 15/09/2021 12:31

@RickJames that's also a concern, I have got the same concern with most things I'd be able to buy though as the whatever I get will have a part that sits under the back of my ring.
I have been told that I'm actually wearing the ring the wrong way, so maybe if I have the point facing 'towards me' it would help alleviate too much rubbing!

The other style I liked was this, again available in sapphire or ruby - but I ruled it out as sitting way too high:

I prefer the blue but also unsure it will sit underneath

RickJames · 15/09/2021 12:39

@HurryUpAndWait23

True! Although I imagine they did/ do a bit less housework and maintenance than I do! I think that's probably where I went wrong. I should have married a prince Grin

Wole · 15/09/2021 12:43

Do you plan on wearing it all the time? Does your job use your hands a lot, do you do a lot of housework? If so then I'd think about getting one with the stones set deeper into the band or get a plain band.

If not then I love the blue one!

indecisiveastheycome · 15/09/2021 12:44

@Wole I work in an office, so just typing etc but not anything too laborious.
I take my rings off to clean!

I normally prefer red but from the pictures the blue looks nicer I think

Go for it then! Love the blue, it looks classy.

gingerscot · 15/09/2021 12:45

Blue for sure. Lovely rings, you have good taste

Bluetrews25 · 15/09/2021 12:46

It's the old, old question, isn't it?
City or United.

indecisiveastheycome · 15/09/2021 12:52

Thanks everyone, I love the ring style - I like blue actually a lot more than I thought I did! The ruby was a stand out, obvious choice for me as it's my birthstone but I'm really leaning more towards sapphire.

I would order one and try it with your ring to see if it works. If it does then all its well, if not you can rethink what else might work. A trip to a jewellers to try some styles on might help with your decision making process.

indecisiveastheycome · 15/09/2021 13:09

@Antinerak that's beautiful, thank you for sending it :)

Neither will suit your pear shaped ring.

Both lovely though, I prefer the sapphire personally

ApolloandDaphne · 15/09/2021 13:22

I actually went and tried on my oval shaped ruby/diamond ring with my eternity band and it didn't fit. It only fits over my very flat wedding band. I suspect you may have trouble finding a jewelled band flat enough to sit under your engagement ring.

MatildaTheCat · 15/09/2021 13:29

@HurryUpAndWait23 I’m guessing Kate takes her ring off when she’s scrubbing the pots and scouring her front step. Smile

OP you need to physically visits a jeweller (preferably the one who made your engagement ring) and get advice on a wedding ring that will work. It may need to be shaped especially. I’m not too sure about placing two statement rings together and would go for a classic platinum band but that’s personal preference.

indecisiveastheycome · 15/09/2021 13:31

Thanks everyone. Believe it or not ive absolutely exhausted all the shops in my local city, all high street chains, and also all of the little antique and preloved shops too. Ive been to literally every. Single. One.
I don't know where else to turn really..

My main thing is that I like things to be unique. Anything unique is a hit with me, so the more 'different' the better.

I think something like this ...perhaps you could get it in sapphire

HurryUpAndWait23 · 15/09/2021 13:38

Haha!! Very good point wrt Kate and Diana!

idontlikealdi · 15/09/2021 13:41

I don't think either of those go with your lovely engagement ring, too chunky. What are they are actually made out of and what is the provenance? Can you not go to a store or jeweller?
