Nice Things That Really Are Nice

In response to to the other thread I was wondering what other Mumsnetters enjoy.

Staying at home?
Staying at home when the house is really clean and tidy?
Not having visitors in the very clean and tidy house?

I imagine there are some slightly more exciting pleasures and am hoping people will share them.

@TheLightSideOfTheMoon

Paws.

Kittens paws are the best. But I like them all.

This is a good one, love little paws 🐾

The way my 4 year old's face lights up when she sees me at school pick up

A large G&T handed to me by my husband

The colour of the heather on the hills where I live.

TiredButDancing · 14/09/2021 17:05

Any room where a cat is sleeping or cleaning itself - creates an instant happy vibe for me.

Really delicious (not necessarily expensive) wine - a wine you genuinely enjoy the taste of is such a pleasure.

Scones, fresh from the oven with jam and cream and butter

I know lots of people on the other thread had a bath as something that's supposed to be nice but isn't, but it's definitely on my "it's supposed to be nice and definitely is lovely" list.

@MrsTerryPratchett

Watching a dog's joy. Mine vibrates when I'm about to throw a ball. He is pure happiness and it rubs off.
Oh, I love this!
drpaddington · 14/09/2021 17:14

Can't beat a nice hot bath with bubbles or bath oil.

Being near the sea- I just love being able to see and/ or hear it.

Laying in the sun in the garden, reading my book.

Watching a good storm when we've had hot weather. I enjoy the storm but also love how it clears the air.

Frosty and icy mornings in the Winter. Feels so fresh.

Snuggling on the sofa for an afternoon nap, especially if it's raining outside.

I like being in the car (as a passenger) when it's sunny- not too hot but enough to make the car all warm and cosy.

Coming home from a Sunday walk and making a huge roast dinner with an insane number of yorkshire puddings and a vat of gravy, getting the fire lit and a good box set on, lovely dinner, then bowl of apple crumble eaten in front of the telly with the cat asleep on my lap.

CarrieErbag · 14/09/2021 17:19

A baby laughing.
Something great happening for a good friend.

NonShallot · 14/09/2021 17:22

White chocolate Toblerone

Crisp cool yet sunny Autumn days

Seeing the first swallows of the season swooping around my house

Good coffee

Putting my toddler to bed knowing there is a very nice bottle of wine waiting for me in the fridge

DH going away for a short trip so I can order favourite take away and binge watch some rubbish on TV that he won't watch with me

frumpety · 14/09/2021 17:33

Watching the tawny owl who comes and sits in the tree in the garden and standing outside on a Summers evening and watching the bats flying about.

Walking into any tack room, always makes me smile, love that smell.

Samafe · 14/09/2021 17:34

Sitting with a book in front of our fireplace.

Spontaneuos kisses from my DS

Listening to my DH singing in the shower

My MIL Lasagna

LetsDoTheTango · 14/09/2021 17:40

The smell of my baby nephew's hair when he falls asleep on me.

The way my two cats rush to greet me, tails up and chirruping happily, when they spot me walking down the drive after I've been out all day.

The warm weight of a cat in your lap, who trusts you enough to let themselves fall into a deep, twitchy sleep while they dream of tuna.

An evening spent with friends I have known for decades, laughing hysterically until our stomachs hurt.

That feeling you get when you watch someone unwrap a gift you have taken time choosing for them, knowing they will absolutely love it.

The way my tummy flips with excitement when I hear my husband's key in the front door, followed by the big bear hug he gives me on saying hello.

That first sunny autumn day, where the sky is bright blue and the leaves have turned beautiful shades of red, gold and yellow, crunching underfoot.

A day spent with my mum, my dad and my sister. We all have very similar senses of humour so there is always a lot of laughter.

The first night sleeping in your own bed after being away from home.

Weekends spent pottering round the house while spending quality time with my husband as we work on creating our forever home together.

A fudgy and indulgent chocolate brownie alongside a strong cup of tea.

Finally, I have to agree with others and say that a hot bubble bath, followed by clean PJs and new bed sheets is very hard to beat.

This thread has made me feel all warm and fuzzy Smile

Friends for dinner

Table set and waiting for friends arriving for dinner

Tidy office (may be specific to me but I love it)

Hoolihan · 14/09/2021 17:43

Falling asleep with my daughter
Sofa, pjs, tea, fire, book on a cold gloomy Sunday
Staying on the beach until the sun has almost set
Ibiza
Bread from the bakery
Three pints with my best friends
Having no plans
Strictly

HasaDigaEebowai · 14/09/2021 17:45

Knowing you’ve done all of your work and admin and there’s absolutely nothing on your to do list (I’m guessing since this will never happen)

Sleep - proper solid restful sleep (also unlikely)

LouLou789 · 14/09/2021 17:45

Cuddling my grandchildren
The smell of roses
Chip shop chips
Getting into PJs at 4pm
Reading a huge, absorbing book
Singing with other people
The sound of the sea

JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue · 14/09/2021 17:46

Turning your pillow to the cold side.

Those few hours between DH washing the floor, and our son coming home from school. The floor is cleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeean.

Good one. The way they find total happiness in the simplest thing. At the moment, my dog's most prized possession is a tennis ball she's skinned.
AGreenerShadeofKale · 14/09/2021 17:48

Crisp, dry weather.
Good takeaway or restaurant food.
Well run hotels.
A good haircut.
Dancing

2000lightyearsaway123 · 14/09/2021 17:49

Cuddling up on the sofa with my lovely dog or even just watching her mootch around the house. She didn't always have a home to mootch around.

Green and blacks white chocolate.

Shaved legs and fresh bedding.

Christmas cooking programmes and a freezing cold day wrapped up warm on the sofa (preferably whilst cuddling aformentioned dog and eating said chocolate).

Ratonastick · 14/09/2021 17:55

My cat purring as she sprawls on top of me. It’s such a lovely comforting sound and a sign that my battered little rescue mog feels safe and secure now.

A brief hug from my giant teen DS. That momentary squeeze that reminds me of the little boy.

Fresh pyjamas and fresh bedding.

Seeing my Dad’s face light up when he looks up and spots one of us coming to see him. Pure joy at the sight of one of his children. I hope I’m the same when I’m his age.

Sunbird24 · 14/09/2021 17:56

Bare feet on clean sand or grass
Switching off the alarm when you take leave from work
When a long-owned houseplant randomly flowers
Surprise post from a friend

OrangeBlossomsinthesun · 14/09/2021 17:56

What I'm doing now, lying on my bed watching an end of summer thunderstorm.

KatherineJaneway · 14/09/2021 17:57

Hot white toast with real butter
The smell of fresh hay
My cats doing most things
Crisp glass of white wine
Good service

dworky · 14/09/2021 17:58

@Redgeraniums

I would be gutted if someone who was coming for a dinner at mine couldn’t come. But then I don’t invite people I don’t like to my house for dinner!!! Hmm
You don't suffer from any social anxiety - well done you!
Crikeyalmighty · 14/09/2021 18:04

An unexpected upgrade on a flight
Fresh lot of rituals house sticks
An old fashioned filter coffee with cream poured in
Seeing a great friend after 11 months (did this 2 weeks ago due to me not being in UK)
Seeing my young adult son post lovely caring political stuff on Facebook
First glass of wine on a Friday evening
A good book , a warm home and some good music at same time

Having a really nice glass of wine totally by myself on a warm but not hot sunny day at a pavement cafe with a magazine.
