Nice Things That Really Are Nice

In response to to the other thread I was wondering what other Mumsnetters enjoy.

Staying at home?
Staying at home when the house is really clean and tidy?
Not having visitors in the very clean and tidy house?

I imagine there are some slightly more exciting pleasures and am hoping people will share them.

A bunch of fresh flowers.
Candles, book and a cup of tea
A cold g&t in a pub garden on a summers evening
A long autumnal walk, followed by a pub lunch in front of a open fire
Washing that’s been line dried (smells so good)
Cracking the spine of a new book
Putting on my Ugg slippers at the end of the day (literally the best thing I’ve ever bought myself)

Going for lunch when your children are old enough to have pleasant conversations. That's my favourite thing in the world: the four of us, just having a laugh and a chat over lunch.

So many nice smells actually when I think of it:
Milton Brown Shower gel
Jo Malone reed diffuser
Calpol Plug ins (Weird but I LOVE IT)
Hawaiian Tropic sun cream
My perfume
My husband's after shave

Mmm ..so many nice smells

Right now. No DC in the house, I can lie on the bed and MN.

Silence.
An oversize woolly jumper on a cold day.
A cup of really good coffee.
Premium brand ice cream.
Going for a walk without any purpose apart from going for a walk.

Making the final payment to finish a loan that dented my wallet every month. £300 extra in my bank account from now on!!!

A really cold shower on a hot day/a hot shower on a cold day.
The feeling on a friday evening knowing you have the whole weekend ahead.
Looking at old photos that make you smile.
A cup of tea/coffee/hot chocolate.
The smell of a new car.
Bringing home new clothes that you can't wait to wear out.
Drinking a glass of wine/g&t in the sun.

A lovely new notebook

Other things:

Clean bedding
A baby or toddler falling asleep on you
A cool breeze on a really hot day
Really good cake
Nice glassware

My lovely little dog.

I've just re-done all the sealant round the bath. It's so satisfying to look at.

A very big mouthful of chocolate.

My piano.

My garden. I work really hard in it and it’s a wonderful, beautiful sanctuary for me.
Watching my dogs play (although I get sad when they trash my garden but they’re quite good about not going on the flower beds)
Watching squirrels.
Watching birds eating from my bird feeders.
A really hard frosty morning.
I get up at 5am so I get a couple of hours to myself. Probably my favourite time of day.

Finally finishing some diy that’s been preying on my mind for more than but I never found the few minutes to do

Listening to the dc play really really nicely together

Doing absolutely nothing whatsoever on a weekend.

That first glass of wine at the end of a hardworking week

Sitting down of an evening with a favourite film/a film that turns out to be great

Sitting down with the papers interrupted on a Sunday morning

Getting a new book/record and sitting down enjoying it

A really nice candle

*uninterrupted

Coming home from work, shoes off, wash hands, brush hair, cup of tea.

Ahhhhhhh

Even better when the dc wait until you're properly settled before piling onto the sofa next to you (rather than leaping on you the moment you enter the house).

Walking up to your front door, about to rummage for the keys, when the door opens - dh or dc have noticed you arriving.

Tea, biscuits and dunking with no one to judge
Reading a book in the sun
Swimming naked
A clean empty house waiting for everyone to come home
The smell of food cooking in a slow cooker and all I have to do is plate up
Going out for a Sunday lunch
A dog poo free mowed garden

Clean bedding
My cat purring
Good news from someone I love
A fire place

Walking up to your front door, about to rummage for the keys, when the door opens - dh or dc have noticed you arriving.

That’s lovely!

Sitting snuggled up under a cosy blanket with a large G&T and some nibbles (preferably of the cheese variety) whilst catching up on a weeks worth of soaps that you have recorded so you dont have to sit through the ads!

Cuddling my little ones.

Sex with my husband.

Chocolate fondue.....

Massages, pedicures and haircuts...

Burgers and chips....

Swimming in resorts hotels

Open fireplaces,cosy chairs and books

Seaside

Getting into bed when you’ve just changed the sheets. Of course you must have clean PJs too or it ruins it 😂

That perfect bite of bacon in a bacon toastie. Where it’s perfectly crispy without being like a frazzle and not so undercooked that you’re worried it’s going to oink at you.

That moment when you get to the end of a book and you didn’t see the twist coming. I can probably only think of a few books where I’ve been genuinely surprised and it’s great when it happens.

Paws.

Kittens paws are the best. But I like them all.

Going for walks when it’s frosty outside, it’s so fresh and lovely.
When my DC randomly come over for a big cuddle, for no reason other than they just want a hug
Baths (I know on the other thread many dislike them but I love a bath!)
Watching animals just doing their thing. Squirrels, birds, pets…any animals.
