Period and….balloon bursting? TMI warning

I know IABU by using AIBU for this but need help as feel pretty traumatised Sad

TMI warning here

Had a really bad day 2 period today. Woke up and emptied mooncup, seemed pretty normal. Popped it back in and then I started feeling what I can only imagine are contractions (although as name suggests never actually been preggos before so what do I know!) crippling pain that at one point I was on the floor doubled over almost crying. Iboprofun didn’t even slightly ease it.

Went to bathroom, mooncup was empty and it felt like my body was pushing it out and it was too painful to put back in so I used a pad instead. Whole day of extreme pain passed with no blood. Started to wonder if I was going to be in a headline saying “I didn’t know I was pregnancy until I gave birth on the toilet” Hmm or maybe if it was something else and I should see a doctor.

Come dinner time, I felt what can only be described as a balloon pop inside me and a hot gush from my vag all the way down my legs. Run to bathroom, blood EVERYWHERE Envy had to get in the shower and wash all my clothes.

Again, I am so sorry for this level of info but I feel a bit traumatised and confused about what happened. Has this happened to anyone before? Should I see a doc to make sure I still have both my ovaries? Blush

Finally got through to 111 who said that as my bleeding has returned to normal, there’s nothing to worry about immediately. She did say to calm my gp if I want scans to investigate why it happened but she thought that from my description it sounds like a burst cyst.

Thanks to everyone for all your support on this thread and for sharing similar experiences.

Not easy being a woman!

Glad you've been reassured OP. I would follow up with your GP, if you can get through of course, tomorrow.

notevenamum1 · 12/09/2021 22:08

Thanks @Becca19962014 so sorry for what happened to your sister, truly heartbreaking to read x

Sorry. That wasn't my intention. She's doing better now. I simply wanted to draw people's attention to the fact some A&Es do require you to go through 111.

ChuckMater · 12/09/2021 22:49

My first thought here was a burst ovarian cyst. I've not read updates fully but I hope you've spoken to 111 and been checked

Endpress · 12/09/2021 23:03

Sounds like a clot to me. Good luck op

Same as PP. I've had "contractions" and passed a very large lump of tissue - not quite a decidual cast but obviously a big chunk of uterine lining.

There was a lot of blood at the time too.

So based on this I actually wouldn't be too worried about what you describe.

Igneo · 12/09/2021 23:22

What is a decidual cast?

BashfulClam · 12/09/2021 23:25

@Becca19962014 that’s awful…I had to take DH to A&E yesterday after we couldn’t get through to 111 and 999 said it could be several hours. He’s not a drama Queen so when he said he needed an ambulance I knew he was seriously unwell. He turned up and it was fine they took him and then shoved me back outside (I had to help him walk). He’s home now with several boxes of medication!

SylvanasWindrunner · 12/09/2021 23:38

@Igneo

What is a decidual cast?
It's when the lining of your uterus sheds in one big piece. It can look exactly like the shape of your uterus, hence the cast name, and is very weird! I only learned about them on MN.

Ohhh the joys of being female.
Hope it’s nothing to worry about @notevenamum1
Once I was walking home and had an agonising cramp and felt like I was laying a soft boiled egg and blood poured down my leggings
Thankfully I had a jumper in that I could tie around my waist, and no one noticed, but it was scary and messy.
A little bit of blood goes a long way!
Best Wishes :)

I've had this but I'm 51 so I obviously knew I wasn't pregnant, it was still terrifying though. ''Flooding'' is relatively normal in your fifties. It's great craic being a woman isn't it. Luckily I'm on the back to back mini pill now so no periods at all.

Becca19962014 · 12/09/2021 23:47

@BashfulClam I'm glad they saw him and he's on the road to recovery.

amusedbush · 12/09/2021 23:47

Earlier this year I had cramping, felt a very definite ‘pop’ around my left ovary and then was in agony like I’ve never felt before for three days (on and off - it would suddenly come on in waves if I stretched my torso the wrong way and it lasted for about 20 minutes at a time).

I didn’t bleed and the pain stopped so I didn’t see anyone about it but from what I’ve read online, a ruptured cyst seems to be pretty much the only explanation.

I’m glad you phoned 111, even just for peace of mind, and I hope you feel better soon.

me4real · 13/09/2021 00:27

I had what they thought was a ruptured cyst, though I didn't have the amount of bleeding people've described.

I had pain and bleeding a few times and eventually they found I have a benign uterine polyp that needs removing.

Glad things have gone back to normal OP. Maybe see your GP if you get anything again.

BashfulClam · 13/09/2021 00:33

@Becca19962014 it’s a waiting game just now.

Mamanyt · 13/09/2021 01:02

ALWAYS worth seeing your doctor. Insist on it. This might have been just a one-off, or something more serious might be going on, but don't take chances! Did you know that up to 25% of ALL pregnancies end in miscarriage before a woman even knows she is pregnant, and many of them simply present as "very heavy periods?"

Hollyhobbi · 13/09/2021 01:23

My 17 year old dd had two doses of pfizer and her period was very late and very painful when it came. So much so that she had to take paracetamol and ibuprofen to cope.

Becca19962014 · 13/09/2021 01:37

@BashfulClam well hopefully the meds they gave him will work. Applogies for the assumption!

Jammysod · 13/09/2021 07:40

@Whyarewehardofthinking

I've had a similar feeling twice and each time I passed a huge clot then what felt like pints of blood pouring out, but it was about 12 hours worth of blood. I expect that the clot was blocking my cervix and the sensation came from it moving through cervix.
I was going to suggest something like this. It is likely something as harmless (but still terrifying) as this, but definitely get checked out. Even if it's just to put your mind at ease.
Moelwynbach · 13/09/2021 07:55

Had this once OP it was haematoma. Like a blood cyst in my uterus. I went to GP who referred me eventually to hospital and had it diagnosed after the event as they could see the remnants of it on the ultrasound.
It never happened again but is so stressful and scary. Hope you are okay😁

RubySlippers123 · 13/09/2021 08:29

Please phone 111 op.

CornishTiger · 13/09/2021 08:34

@RubySlippers123

Please phone 111 op.
@RubySlippers123 read the thread!!!
ThankYouStavros · 13/09/2021 09:22

I do not want to scare you but this happened to me, it was the result of a missed miscarriage. It was very traumatic. Please get checked and more important than anything, I hope you’re okay.
