Period and….balloon bursting? TMI warning

I know IABU by using AIBU for this but need help as feel pretty traumatised Sad

TMI warning here

Had a really bad day 2 period today. Woke up and emptied mooncup, seemed pretty normal. Popped it back in and then I started feeling what I can only imagine are contractions (although as name suggests never actually been preggos before so what do I know!) crippling pain that at one point I was on the floor doubled over almost crying. Iboprofun didn’t even slightly ease it.

Went to bathroom, mooncup was empty and it felt like my body was pushing it out and it was too painful to put back in so I used a pad instead. Whole day of extreme pain passed with no blood. Started to wonder if I was going to be in a headline saying “I didn’t know I was pregnancy until I gave birth on the toilet” Hmm or maybe if it was something else and I should see a doctor.

Come dinner time, I felt what can only be described as a balloon pop inside me and a hot gush from my vag all the way down my legs. Run to bathroom, blood EVERYWHERE Envy had to get in the shower and wash all my clothes.

Again, I am so sorry for this level of info but I feel a bit traumatised and confused about what happened. Has this happened to anyone before? Should I see a doc to make sure I still have both my ovaries? Blush

@Kitchendrama1 I had to take my husband to hospital during covid for kidney stones and they wouldn’t allow access without having previously informed by 111 that we are coming. Have checked the hospital and it’s not actually a&e - its gp out of hours and minor injuries so maybe that’s why. Nearest a&e is about a 40 min drive from here.

I’m pretty sure you can just turn up. That sounds unusual and worth being examined for.

notevenamum1 · 12/09/2021 20:52

@LapinR0se sorry if this is a really dumb question but is a cyst something to worry about?

I've had a similar feeling twice and each time I passed a huge clot then what felt like pints of blood pouring out, but it was about 12 hours worth of blood. I expect that the clot was blocking my cervix and the sensation came from it moving through cervix.

hibbledibble · 12/09/2021 20:53

Have you done a pregnancy test? Regardless of contraception, this would be advisable (as contraception isn't 100% effective)

Meloncurse · 12/09/2021 20:57

That sounds the same as my experience @Whyarewehardofthinking

LapinR0se · 12/09/2021 20:57

In general, no not really. However you should monitor your temperature and pain levels for the next 48 hrs as a burst cyst can cause infection in the pelvis. That’s what happened to me and I was on antibiotics for 16 weeks.

cherrypiepie · 12/09/2021 20:57

The first they they will do at a and e is a pregnancy test so you might want to do one. Not suggesting it is, but you could rule it out or act with more urgency.

Hope you feel better it sound very disturbing!

TreeTed · 12/09/2021 20:58

@Kitchendrama1 yes you can turn up if life threatening that minute, which this needs seeing but isn’t, everything else requires you to phone up to be phone triaged and get a time slot to attend to avoid crowding in the waiting room. Either via 111 or the dedicated number widely advertised for you local unit.

BashfulClam · 12/09/2021 20:59

That start of my period can be like that. I have bad ortiod pain and a feeling of pressure, the pressure then ‘bursts’ and my period starts. Did you notice any clots. I get pain with clots as I get contractions as my womb tries to ‘push’ the clot through my cervix. This could be what happened and a clot blocked your cervix then released, it’s normal for me but if not for you I’d get checked.

CaMePlaitPas · 12/09/2021 20:59

This happened to me and it was a clot so big I could hold it in my hand, it looked like a liver. Go and get checked OP, it's not worth the risk x

SylvanasWindrunner · 12/09/2021 20:59

Definitely get checked! If you've just started hormonal contraception then I'd be wondering if that was the culprit. I don't think it needs A&E if the bleeding has settled now and you're feeling well, but definitely ring GP in the morning. It could just be a large clot where blood has backed up behind it so gushed (and might be why you were having pains but no blood loss for a while).

Lemonandlime123 · 12/09/2021 21:00

I had something similar once when I had taken a break from the pill and then gone back on it. My first period back on it was painful and quite heavy. I was coming back from my boyfriends parents house (now DH) and felt a huge gush when sat in the car. We arrived home, I got up and it was absolutely everywhere (including all over the cream leather car seat 😬). No idea what it was and it never happened again ... maybe a side effect of the pill?

I hope you are ok OP!

Meloncurse · 12/09/2021 21:00

I've also had a ruptured ovarian cyst, but that was mid cycle and quite different pain wise - low level pain to start with, ramping up so it was painful enough that I went to A&E where they gave me some lovely morphine. Then residual pain for a couple of weeks. When I passed a giant clot the pain completely disappeared as soon as that happened.

notevenamum1 · 12/09/2021 21:04

That sounds horrendous @Lemonandlime123!

AntiSocialDistancer · 12/09/2021 21:04

Hope 111 are helpful, you can ask for a nurse call back.

If you continue going through multiple pads frequently get to A&E

notevenamum1 · 12/09/2021 21:08

I didn’t notice a bloody clot but there was a lot of blood so may have missed it. I do normally have clots and do normally have very heavy very painful periods. I’ve been checked for everything like pcos but nothing was found. That was a number of years ago though.

Checked my temp and it’s normal. Still on hold to 111.

No access to pregnancy test till tomorrow. Very very very unlikely I’d be preggos as we are regimented with contraception but guess you never know.

notevenamum1 · 12/09/2021 21:09

I am bleeding normally not which is giving me some reassurance

OP posts:
notevenamum1 · 12/09/2021 21:09

Now that should say!

OP posts:
TartanJumper · 12/09/2021 21:14

OP, our hospital try to get you to call 111 first but have stated they won't turn anyone away if they don't. So maybe the same with yours.

DamnThatHitsHome · 12/09/2021 21:18

Sounds horrible Sad. I know nothing about cysts, but I do remember my first period after starting the pill for the first time, and honestly it was the most pain I've ever been in, and painkillers didn't touch it. I remember wondering whether I was miscarrying or haemorrhaging- fortunately it settled a little the next day and from then on periods were pretty normal. May not be the same, but it would be possible that the cervix was 'blocked' temporarily by a clot or something to explain the lack of bleeding then sudden flow.

Northernsoullover · 12/09/2021 21:18

I had this recently too. It was like a waterfall following a huge clot.
GoogleWhacked · 12/09/2021 21:19

That sounds scary OP, hope you have gotten to speak to someone now & are feeling OK.

CornishTiger · 12/09/2021 21:19

Definitely speak to 111.

Can you book a phone consultation with GP or econsult in morning if necessary.

To the previous posters who said just turn up at a&e I suggest you look at what is happening in some parts of the country. I’m praying we don’t need a&e anytime soon.
