AIBU about magic mushrooms in the dining room

Aaahh, so here it goes, I am deeply convinced I am not unreasonable but am prepared to be told otherwise.

In a nutshell: DH is growing magic mushrooms in the dining room. We have kids, I don't think it's right to grow psychedelic drugs in the house. He strongly disagrees and thinks I'm totally unreasonable to object.

I get that magic mushrooms have all sorts of health benefits, micro dosing etc, and it's not like he's running a meth lab but still, I'm not comfortable with a mushroom patch in my dining room. This kind of stuff has no place in a family home.

Am I being really uptight and awkward about this? AIBU to object?

@ViciousJackdaw

He's full of shitake and needs to button it. It is your morel duty to move the crop elsewhere - regardless of whether it takes up too mushroom in the dining area.
I can tell that you are a fungi with that veritable parasol of puns!

@DoylyCarte

Mucci spores are good. They do a whole range of edible, medicinal and psychoactive mushroom spores and also do starter kits etc. There is a great you tuber called fresh cap mushrooms that do videos explaining the entire process from beginning to end. It's really easy and I love having a fresh supply of mushrooms for risottos etc. I love pink oyster at the moment and am hoping to get a batch of lion mane and giants on the go soon.

I took magic mushrooms once aged about 14. It triggered around 10 years of serious anxiety disorder and crippling panic attacks.

Magic mushrooms are NOT something to take lightly and honestly if I found out someone was growing them with children in rhe house,I'd report to police and social services in a heartbeat.

And I'm normally pretty chilled about these things.

I don't know anyone who has tried magic mushrooms who hasn't had at least one horrific, terrifying experience (either mentally, or physically.)

Reading the posts, I'm very confused.

Do all posters realise that magic mushrooms are an illegal class A drug in the UK?

They can and do cause "bad trips" as well as having the potential to trigger serious mental health conditions (as mentioned previously, I am speaking from experience).

Not to mention physical injury that can occur when hallucinating. A boy in my town was permanently disabled after falling from a height when hallucinating.

People can take them and be fine, sure.

But people CAN take anything and be fine! A lot of people take a gram of cocaine every weekend and go out with their mates and suffer no addiction issues and hold down a good job and normal life Monday to Friday.

Doesn't mean we should all be doing or encouraging it, and we definitely shouldn't be having illegal drugs around children.

Risks aside, what lessons are you trying to teach your children? A very relaxed attitude to drugs and to totally disregard laws and risks, that's for sure. That's a huge risk in itself!

Now I’m open minded and liberal and all that but no way would I be growing MM in the HOUSE!?! With kids around!?!

SweetBabyCheeses99 · 15/09/2021 14:24

He is being v irresponsible. Not only could the kids accidentally eat one, but it’s not exactly setting them a good example is it?

As soon as they find out what they are they’re going to let it slip to their friends. A concerned parent who’s previously let their kids play at your house is going to call cops. And it’s a max 7 year prison sentence. Max life if they can prove that he’s supplied any - which includes giving it away for free. Plus you knew about this! What if social services get involved?

KnobJockey · 15/09/2021 14:29

Well, if the police or social services are ever at your house for any other reason, your children are likely to be considered at risk and having SS interventions. Isn't that enough to say no fucking way?

DoylyCarte · 15/09/2021 15:46

@fantastaballs thank you! I absolutely love mushrooms- really delicious and generally fascinating things; love foraging and cooking with them and would love to grow them so that’s really useful StarSmile
