To ask what vaccine side effects you had?

LoulaJ · 11/09/2021 11:02

Not intended to be a debate on whether or not to get the vaccine, just purely interested in people's side effects and which particular vaccine they had? I'm finally taking the plunge today after much deliberation and being really unsure due to breastfeeding a baby and severe anxiety. But I'm very worried about how I'm going to feel afterwards and whether I'll feel well enough to care for my baby. Any experiences?

I had Pfizer -

1st - sore arm, bit of a headache for a few days, just generally run down but nothing major.
2nd - sore arm, a bit tired, but that's it.

thecognoscenti · 11/09/2021 11:31

Pfizer. First - bit of a sore patch on my arm, like a bruise. Second - nothing at all, I wouldn't have known I'd had it.

Zealois · 11/09/2021 11:32

I had Pfizer. Very sore arm and exhausted (felt like jet lag) after the first one. Slightly sore arm and a little bit tired after the second.

Other members of my family:

  • Pfizer - one person sore arm and tired, other two had no side effects

  • AZ - one person was very tired and aching for two days after first shot. The other person had no side effects.

  • Moderna - Both people were tired but no other side effects

  • Janssen - no side effects

Had AZ.

Felt a bit tired in the evening then woke in the night shivering and freezing, just couldn't get warm.

Next day felt pretty wiped all day but got up and got on with things; nothing too taxing as I'm retired but was more than able to walk the dog.

Second dose, slightly sore arm for a day or two, otherwise nothing.

As far as I can gather the older you are the less affected people tend to be, I'm in my early 70s.

I know a couple of people: one in his 80s and one in his 90s who had both AZ jabs with absolutely no side effects.

My DD in mid 30s was pretty knocked out for about a week. Very unusual for her to take time off work but she was in bed for a couple of days with flu like symptoms.

I think it's hard to know how you'll react from how other people have been affected as it does seem side effects vary enormously from person to person.

nordica · 11/09/2021 11:38

Moderna and flu like symptoms 24-48 hours after both times.

After the first jab I worked the next day (wfh computer based work). After the second I spent most of the day after watching Netflix and napping. I could have just got on with things and did what I needed to do (I have four cats who needed feeding etc.) but wanted to rest as I was able to. I could have looked after a baby if I needed to as well. I felt ill but not incapacitated if that makes sense.

AZ for both.

1st one felt a bit lightheaded and nauseous a few hours later but was absolutely fine.

2nd one absolutely no side effects.

Parttimemostofthetime · 11/09/2021 11:41

Pfizer- 1st one nothing, 2nd slightly tired and sore arm for a day

DH- pfizer- mild headache after both

lljkk · 11/09/2021 11:43

I only know one person who reacted to 2nd jab, so these are all 1st jab response except where noted:

Moderna:
My elderly parents: nothing
DS17: nothing
DS21: felt less than 100% for a few days; immediately did an exhausting no-sleep exercise for 5 days anyway

AZ:
DH: nothing
me: noticeably sore arm
30-something GP I know: nothing after 1st ,quite rough for 4 days after 2nd
30-something friend with anxiety: felt odd for 24 hours; instantly recovered at meal time
50yo friend who was very anti-vacc: started feeling awful within 20 minutes, weeks to get better
60-something guy I know: felt odd for 24 hours
19yo DD: in bed for 36 hrs after 1st, nothing after 2nd

OneTitWonder · 11/09/2021 11:44

I had AZ.

First dose had flu symptoms, including high temps for 48 hours afterwards. Also got what they call ‘COVID arm’ which involves the whole upper arm being very swollen (like Popeye’s arm) with a red rash. Not painful or itchy, just looked crazy. That lasted 3 weeks.

Second dose, headache and very mild cold symptoms.

DH had AZ and had flu symptoms for 24 hours after the first dose, nothing after the second.

Somethingsnappy · 11/09/2021 11:44

Hi OP! Well done for taking the plunge. I was in the exact position you are in last Thursday (nervous and also breastfeeding). Will you have Pfizer? I had it and was a doddle! I had an extremely mild feeling of slight pressure in my ears and a bit of a headache, but really nothing bad. Just a sore arm for two days. A feeling like the muscle was strained or bruised around it. But totally fine! I felt short changed in fact as I was expecting a day in bed and didn't need one Grin. Baby has been absolutely fine too. Good luck!

lollypop725 · 11/09/2021 11:44

Pfizer, could be a HUGE coincidence but I had my vaccine and 2 weeks later a positive pregnancy test (I'm on nexaplanon) the dates all lined up that I ovulated around the day or days after my jabs, as I say could just be a coincidence ( turned into a ectopic pregnancy)

Other than that, headache, dizziness and sore arm, first dose seemed more intense dizziness than first

HelplessProcrastinator · 11/09/2021 11:45

None at all. I had mine on a clinical trial and was convinced I had the placebo. DH in same trial was quite unwell with headache and flu like symptoms for 24 hours. I now have COVID, very mild thankfully. DH had missed it altogether. He reckons he is better protected as he had a stronger reaction to the vaccine, he’s not a scientist though.

thetaleunfolds · 11/09/2021 11:46

I had Pfizer while pregnant and besides a sore arm for about 18 hours afterwards I had no side effects. My second one was 2 months ago now

Theoldcuriosityshop · 11/09/2021 11:49

First one I had a red painful arm but nothing else.
Second, nothing at all.

Jerseygirl12 · 11/09/2021 11:50

AZ- felt flu like symptoms, shakes, cold for a couple of days. Painkillers really helped.
2nd dose-nothing

Nesski · 11/09/2021 11:54

@LoulaJ I had the Moderna, first one nothing but second one hit me like a truck. Full on shakes and temperature at night will all flu symptoms, lasted into second night. I'm also breastfeeding baby but I took it as my prep for when I eventually will be ill and having to look after the baby.

EventOfTheSeason · 11/09/2021 11:54

Moderna here. I had a sore arm at the injection point the first jab and for the second I had a mild bit of "covid arm" which was reddish and hot but not sore or itchy. It went after 2 days.

LookToTreblesGoingTreblesGone · 11/09/2021 11:57

AZ - No side effects whatsoever on either of the 2 jabs.
DH had the Pfizer one and was the same.
Both my adult kids had Pfizer jabs and also no side effects.

AgentJohnson · 11/09/2021 12:27

I had no symptoms for the first jab but DD was achey for two days. I have just cancelled the second because DD has got a cold, grr! Everyone in my office felt terrible after their first.

Singinghollybob · 11/09/2021 12:29

I didn't have any side effects for either of them, I had the Pfizer.

RavenclawsRoar · 11/09/2021 12:31

Dh and I both early 30s, both double jabbed (pfizer). I had pretty much 0 side effects and dh had a slightly sore arm (very very mild). I actually don't know anyone irl who suffered that badly with side effects. The worst was a colleague who had a temperature for about 24 hours afterwards but that was it. Most people I know felt totally fine.

Doyoumind · 11/09/2021 12:32

AZ. None with either dose.

Geamhradh · 11/09/2021 12:33

AZ for me. First jab, nothing.
Second, the headache of death for 2 days.

Pfizer- dp. Sore arm both times.

Moderna -dd aged 17. First dose, nothing. Second dose this Thursday. Bit of a temperature Thursday evening and yesterday. Fine today.

Well done on going OP. Tell the staff you're anxious, they'll understand Brew
