So it looks likely the roll out of vaccines for healthy 12-15 year olds will be agreed next week. I'm consenting, and my teen wants it.

What about you?

YABNU - Yes, Im co senting too
YABU - Nope

Can anyone point me in the direction of the research evidence that proves covid is more of a risk for heart inflammation than the Pfizer vaccine specifically for 12-15 year olds? I see this mentioned a lot but have not seen any research evidence that is specific to this age group

The research report (previously linked) is not yet peer reviewed and states' at current infection rates the risk of a healthy adolescent being admitted to hospital within 120 days of infection in the US is estimated to be 44 per million.' I am unclear what this actually means.

It is broken down by age group in the results here: www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa2110475

The pandemic is over indeed. The story carries on

@SweetBabyCheeses99

Latest research published this week from University of California:

The risk of heart complications for boys aged 12-15 following the vaccine was 162.2 per million.
Meanwhile, the risk of a healthy boy needing hospital treatment owing to Covid in the next 120 days is 26.7 per million.
This means the risk they face from heart complications is 6.1 times higher than that of hospitalisation.
(Based on current rates of hospitalisations from Covid-19, which are judged to be “moderate”. During a period of low risk of hospitalisation, such as June 2021, the likelihood of heart complications rises to 22.8 times higher, and during a period of high risk, such as January 2021, the likelihood of heart complications is still 4.3 times higher.)

Myocarditis cannot be treated - heart damage is always permanent in everyone as heart muscle has no ability to repair itself. Rest and medication will ease the symptoms but the effects are there forever.

I don’t really see how it can be made much clearer 🤷🏻‍♀️ Even the JCVI couldn’t morally agree to it despite being placed under enormous political pressure.

Myocarditis normally goes away without causing any permanent damage to the heart muscle. Risk of myocarditis if you get covid is higher than the risk if you have the vaccination. Obviously, getting the vaccination guarantees you are taking the risk, whereas you can play Russian roulette with getting covid.

My 14 year DD old has already had 1 dose, Here in Ireland vaccines for 12-15 years olds started about a month ago.
DD has a heart condition so they went throught the risk of Myocarditis with us. The risk to her if she gest Covid is much higher than the risk from the vaccine.
I think the uptake has been quite high here for this age group.
