Surely they aren't going ahead with cutting it by £20 a week? I'm shocked that the government could stoop this low. What the hell are they doing. Angry

Still stand by my point
I bet you’re a little ray of sunshine

But why should people on benefits now receive more money, while workers don’t. And yes I know that people receive benefits and work too.

There’s no fucking hope for you then. If you stand by that after reading this thread you’re utterly and completely selfish and heartless.

I think the extra money should have been targeted at the people who really needed it although I acknowledge it would have been a nightmare to administer and the government had to make a quick decision. UC covers a lot of people, some like single people who are living on a pittance, unemployed and maybe having to top up rent out of their standard allowance. Other have wages coming in and relatively low council rent, possibly child maintenance too which is not considered at all for Uc and does not reduce it at all. Some struggle hugely more than others so to just give it out across the board , to me seems ridiculous. Many people's costs during lockdown decreased - I know our did we saved around £200 a month on fuel not having to drive to work or take Ds to college, didn't pay for new school uniform or school lunches at £3.50 a day, didn't have to pay for a bus pass for other Ds at £150 a term. We claimed a tax rebate each which helped with the increase in heating costs although to be honest being a large family the heating tended to be on anyway as there was always someone in. We even saved on paying a dog walker as we were home working and could walk them in our lunchbreak ( saving of £100 a month ). We don't claim Uc so all these savings are irrelevant but I'm just pointing out that not everyone had increased costs during lockdown.

@Iheartbaby your comment makes you sound like a mean spirited, petty person who is jealous of poor people.

Thats your right, however since you didn't get the extra £20 a week and its not fair. How about to make it all fair, we bring the minimum wage back to £6.50 (what it was in 2015, when the benefit freeze started)

Because those of us on benefits are still living on that rate

If you want £20 a week more and you work.

Ask for a raise.
Take a couple more hours.
Ask for a promotion.
Take on another role.

People on UC can't do those things.
So I'd say you're better off.
And if you can't do any of those things, for whatever reason, quit and be a UC claimant, you may wish to hope your bitterness is a replacement for food.

PalmarisLongus · 12/09/2021 14:21

*People on UC can't do those things.

Unemployed people...

Working UC claimants could obviously.

Iheartbaby · 12/09/2021 14:35

Why should I work more hours for the £20 when people sitting at home are getting it for free.

Plus it would be pointless for me to work more hours as I would then have to pay for child care, but anyway let’s carry on helping people who do nothing

TooBigForMyBoots · 12/09/2021 14:41

🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Iheartbaby · 12/09/2021 15:00

I see it in real life, their are families that get everything, who get as much money as people who are working, and it’s really not right. Dam right I resent these types getting £20 extra a week.

Benefits should be there for people who really need it. I want people who are disabled to get more money and to be treated better, I don’t want it wasted on people that can work and just make up excuses as to why they can’t.

TooBigForMyBoots · 12/09/2021 15:04

Most recipients of benefits are working @Iheartbaby.

Why do you think you’re the only one in this situation?
PalmarisLongus · 12/09/2021 15:26

"Plus it would be pointless for me to work more hours as I would then have to pay for child care"

Happy for UC claimants to care for your kids, not happy they get a bit extra..

How about care workers? A lot of them claim UC. They ok to care for your elderly relatives, but not get a bit extra for doing so?

Or is it just the "Millions of scroungers that haven't ever worked" that you're targeting your ire at?
Those ones that spend "Your Money" on their "big Houses" and watch "Big TVs"

Itsmeagainandagain · 12/09/2021 15:31

Scandelous, i and my oartner work full time so dont qualify for it but my sister who works part time on min wage gets it. Shes a single mum and pays for lunches ect and each month still has to borrow off of us and it will get worse. Tgey cant rise taxes and expect those on universal credit to cope, how about they do away with the house of lords and free lunches in westminster palices restraurants, the overpriced cavier they gulp down their greedy throats in rather than penalise working class parents already teetering on the edge of poverty

Very flippant quote remember everyone is one paycheck away from poverty. You may lose your job one day and be relying on benefits yourself show a bit of compassion eh!
Iheartbaby · 12/09/2021 15:38

Omg, I am a care worker, you are all totally missing my point. I am the one on min wage and everyone working at the care home agrees that the £20 should not stay.

No darlin im a care worker and id never think the way you do. Care workers the epitome of care and compassion for other human beings. You are not a care worker not with your way of thinking, yiur just someone who shows up to work and steals a paycheck

Why is that relevant? I don't receive the £20 but i know what it's like to struggle to get by day to day and to have a bit extra money then have it removed. It's incredibly difficult. I think it should stay. Just because you're a care worker doesn't make you right

I don't believe you.

Of you were a care worker on minimum wage with at least one child, you're likely entitled to UC and would have gotten the £20 uplift.

Iheartbaby · 12/09/2021 15:43

Sorry but i know plenty of care workers who disagree with the benefit system in every way. Mainly because they don't qualify for anything on account of not having dc, but let's not pretend that all care workers are angels!

A lot of people work in crap min wage jobs and are not happy people who do nothing got £20 a week more in the first place (and no I’m not talking about people who can’t work because they are not well, I wish they got more) for doing nothing.
