Carbs, when it comes down to it, are wonderful healthy things just like everything else when eaten in moderation

But many people are unable to moderate when it comes to processed carbs/cereal grains/sugar, that’s the point. These foods are addictive

OP, I turned 40 this year and my usual 1200 calorie diet isn’t working and I’ve gained a few kgs. I’ve also had hot and cold flushes since January and really heavy periods which I don’t usually have. My Doctor thinks I’ve started early menopause. Could it be that?
I’ve heard that menopause causes weight gain (Prevents weight loss) no matter what diet or exercise you undertake.

I've been told re menopause it's a combination of losing lean tissue mass (hence why resistance training is so important) and the change in hormones making you store fat around your abdomen as opposed to anywhere else.

1200 cals is ridiculously low. Up to 1500-1700 and you'll start seeing results- are you measuring everything? Butter in toast. Milk in coffee etc

Strokethefurrywall · 26/10/2021 14:14

Chuck out the scales - the only person who sees that number is you. Not only that, the but you could be having a really great day, feeling good - but the minute you step on the scale and see that the needle isn’t pointing to the number you think it should say, you feel like shit.

You give the scale too much power. That number you see can completely fuck with your mind, can rob you of your ability to recognize good change, and will keep you stuck in a “diet” mindset for life.

I don’t weigh myself at all anymore. Move as much as possible, lift weights regularly, eat mostly plant foods, pulses and minimal processed foods and the weight will drop off you.

Ideal health isn’t something you can reach overnight, and unless you change what you fuel your body with, exercise really won’t get you to where you want to be.
Change your fuel, get used to eating the different way for a couple weeks, then add in weight training and some cardio and you’ll see results.

You could do keto, or Paleo, or a whole30, or just about any other “plan”, but all of them will require consistency and patience. Some of them will also come with longer term health considerations.

Take a deep breath and Good luck.

Based on your age, stick with what you're doing. Starting to exercise regularly is great for you and at the same time go and get your hormones tested.
