If you want to lose stored fat, the only way to do this is to eat a diet designed to keep insulin low.

If you're in a calorie deficit you will generally lose. Personally, I can't do exercises like squats and deadlift etc with any intensity if I'm too carb depleted. The body just doesn't convert fat/protein to useable energy fast enough.

But it depends on one's goals. I think some resistance training is important as most people want to be toned rather than just be skinny fat so to speak.

@Bluntness100

Honestly some nonsense being posted on here, she’s not holding on to half a stone of water weight as she exercises three times a week, what a ridiculous idea.
Agreed.
WreckTangled · 09/09/2021 11:17

'If you want to lose stored fat, the only way to do this is to eat a diet designed to keep insulin low.'

Rubbish. Insulin converts food to energy for your body to lose. It all comes down to a calorie deficit. You also need/produce insulin for protein, albeit at a slower rate.

Bluntness100 · 09/09/2021 11:19

@a8mint

I think you will have built loads of muscle doing weights 3 x a week for three weeks especially in the first 3 weeks.
No she won’t, do you know how hard it is for a woman to build muscle?
Latinorapida · 09/09/2021 11:39

My husband lost loads of weight on the keto diet. I would do it if I didn’t have such a sweet tooth. You only eat fat and protein. You can’t even have fruit (apart from some berries and even then it’s just a handful). No oats or grains so typical day would be omelette for breakfast, tuna salad and eggs for lunch and salmon/steak, creamy saucy and green veg for dinner.

Basically you can have as much fat and protein as you want. My husband lost 20 kilos and he wasn’t particularly overweight to begin with. Hope that helps x

@MintyGreenDream

Thanks everyone.Im going to try eating less carbs.Ive definitely not been getting my calories wrong.Its trial and error like most things so I'll keep on with it.
Minty I'm in the same boat - it takes 3 weeks(ish) for any change in diet/exercise to register on the scales for me. However this time I have noticed that whilst I'm going to the gym every morning and burning 6-700 calories according to HRM, I do eff all after work which is a desk job anyway! Last time I lost weight effectively I was not coming home exhausted and slumping in front of the TV- I was taking kids to judo and going for a walk whilst it was on, playing touch rugby, coaching rugby, taking dogs for a walk etc etc. I KNOW that if I can just get out for a half hour walk after work it will make a difference but right now my emotional self won't let me do it.

Plus I keep sabotaging my 'good' food all week then overeating at the weekend 'because I've cycled 30 miles'

I'm over 13 stones which I haven't been since pregnant with DC3 21 years ago and my clothes don't fit. I can't afford to buy bigger ones so have to do something and quickly but at 52 it aint going to come off quickly is it? Sad

MintyGreenDream · 09/09/2021 13:56

@blobby10 I'mglad I'm not alone in this,I'm sure we'll see results soon

That’s just wrong.
StrikeItLuckyShuffle · 09/09/2021 14:26

Firstly
Stop weighing yourself .

Stick to what your doing and don’t give up

I was in exactly the same position ( same weight / clothes size same daily calories and going gym 3-4 times a week)
I’m 3 months in and now sticking to it seeing the results
I’ve not lost a mega amount (7lbs ) but I’ve gained muscle and tone in my arms
lockdown flapping clapping bingo wings are almost all gone
I’ve gone down to a size 10-12 and gained so much confidence.

But my strong advise is do not bother with weighing yourself
It just makes you feel like your not doing enough when you see no difference or worst of all it says you have gained !!
but it does work if you stick to the 1200 calories and go gym minimum 3 times a week it will come off
Don’t give up :)

MissConductUS · 09/09/2021 14:36

Move more. Briskly walk 2-3 miles on the days that you don't work out in the gym.

One problem with cutting your caloric intake is that your metabolism slows down in response. Exercise will reduce that effect.

MintyGreenDream · 09/09/2021 15:40

@StrikeItLuckyShuffle thanks I really needed to hear this

StrikeItLuckyShuffle · 09/09/2021 18:30

@MintyGreenDream
My pleasure :) and by not weighing yourself you will soon notice the difference when your clothes start to get looser that’s how I knew it was working
I gave up weighing myself as I have two sets of scales and both say a different weight when I stand on them and was never lower than when I first started Confused I was so annoyed by it I even kept moving it around the kitchen floor and standing on them at a funny angle just to see if a different area of the room would make me weigh less after all the effort and healthy food I had been eating made no bloody difference lol

Definitely stick to the 1200 calories and yes cut out carbs that’s what I’ve done
no bread or potatoes just put extra veg on your plate :)

Leftbutcameback · 09/09/2021 18:38

I would definitely say keep going, and see if you start to look more toned. I’m the other way around - gained no weight but have gained inches and at least half a dress size. Weight really isn’t everything esp as you get a bit older.

No she won’t. It is very difficult for women to put on muscle, and there is no way that 3 sessions in 3 weeks is going to add anything significant.
user1471442488 · 09/09/2021 18:46

Also, to actually add something useful…I’ve found keto amazing for weight loss. I never felt hungry at all as eating lots of fat kept me full all day. You won’t quite believe the numbers you’ll see on the scales when you’ve been eating like a queen all week!

Muscle does not weigh more than fat

Muscle weighs more than fat. "In simple terms, a pound of muscle weighs the same as a pound of fat," Heimburger tells WebMD. "The difference is that muscle is much more dense than body fat. Therefore, a pound of muscle will take up much less room in your body than a pound of fat. Another benefit of muscle, it is significantly more vascular [better blood supply] than body fat and will cause you to burn more calories at rest than body fat."

Tempusfudgeit · 09/09/2021 19:02

There was a study out this week that counterintuitively showed that overweight people who exercise lose less weight at rest.

I've always seen diet and fitness as separate. Lose the weight first, with very accurate calorie counting, then get fit through exercise. Your joints will thank you too!

Don’t do this, the poster has completely misunderstood the study which in no way is recommending that people don’t exercise during a weight loss phase.

What on earth are you blathering on about? Saying fat takes up more space than muscle, is the same thing as saying muscle weighs more than fat.
And yes when someone girst starts weight training they build up muscle noticeably very quickly. Having little musculature could tell the difference in how my biceps and calf muscles felt after one session let alone 9!

It's taken from a medical website so you don't agree with what they are "blathering" about. Someone who lifts weights will look very different from someone with the same height and body weight than someone who doesn't lift weights.

Exactly because MUSCLE WEIGHS MORE THAN FAT
