To think Boris Johnson should have to answer questions about the £350 million

Basically he lied in order to get Brexit, saying we'd have £350 million A WEEK from Brexit for the NHS Angry When we are all getting tax rises instead.
Why is he just being allowed to get away with this lie, without even having to make an apology.

Brexit voters aren't up in arms about this because immigration. That's what it was really all about.

And yet people would be up in arms if this was said. But also nobody is mentioning about the bus. I do really wonder, when history judges all of this, whether people will be gobsmacked that it's no longer mentioned.

No. Because everyone knows it was just a mask that was put on Brexit to make racists and xenophobes able to deny that's what it was about.

Everyone knows it wasn't about the NHS. Set foot in any hospital and you can see what immigration has done for us. I've never had a GP born in the UK. Not once.

Because loads of people don't actually really follow politics. Just see headlines and think "Oh, that's brilliant/awful" and then move on. I think that's the depth of interest or knowledge of around 75% of the population. No evidence for that figure but we don't scrutinise details anymore.

@Onlinedilema

Because the general public love him.
I don’t think this is true - I think the problem is they hate Labour more.

The left is always held to a higher standard than the right. Look at the whole fuss about Jeremy Corbyn's clothes - and yet Boris can run around looking like a total scruffbag.

Labour gets (rightly) called out on antisemitism, but Tory Islamophobia is excused. And lying is fine, if you're a Tory. That's just how it is.

It isn’t really hard to understand. I’m a lifelong Labour voter and I hate Brexit, it’s a fucking stupid idea.

But Boris Johnson plays the apologetic toff so well and Kier Starmer has very little in the way of spark. If you look at it through this type of lens, it’s actually really easy to understand why Johnson’s media savvy, dafty persona appeals to so many people with very little interest in, or knowledge of, politics.

I know, I was quite impressed with the Freudian element!!!

Do you think people would have had as much love for Teresa May if she had had an illegitimate kid to her young shag piece whilst still married to the father of 3 of her kids. Oh and had a couple of abortions to a few other men again all whilst married to someone else. Then wouldn't reveal how many kids she has as she has at least one other illegitimate child. She was also pregnant to her present husband whilst still married to her first husband.
On top of all this the Catholic church said it's totes fine......here we will marry you and the man you committed adultery with and had an illegitimate child with. We will allow you to marry in church! Do come in you are most welcome we don't judge here. Well we do actually until 1997 we still locked unmarried mothers up in homes and the priests raped them! Well they are dirty whores unlike you devout prime minister, and your new wife who is such a devout Catholic she fucked her married boss and got pregnant to him. But let's not talk about our past.

Jaysmith71 · 08/09/2021 10:12

"The left is always held to a higher standard than the right."

Blimey yes.

Boris Johnson was drunk and hungover at the Cenotaph and the BBC 'lost the tape.'

And of course, "Chaos with Ed Miliband," who was unfit to be Prime Minsiter because he lived with a woman who wasn't his wife. A hastily arranged wedding followed, for all the good it did.

Boris lied, but it was obvious to anyone with half a brain that the £350 million a week claim was not true (for starters it was gross, not net, secondly it ignored the negative economic impact of Brexit). Politicians lie, that is never going to change, the issue is that an element of the electorate is stupid enough to believe those lies.
amusedbush · 08/09/2021 10:20

Funding a nonce GrinGrin

Surely nobody actually believed a word that fucking prick said about Brexit? It was largely about immigration and angry hams who want ‘Britain back British’. Bawjaws could have said just about anything and they would have voted for it.

beguilingeyes · 08/09/2021 10:24

People love him..for reasons beyond comprehension.
It's the 'hes's doing his best' narrative that makes me crazy. He's not a child learning to tie his shoe laces...he's supposed to be running the country FFS. If he's not capable he should step aside.

JasonMomoasgirlfriend · 08/09/2021 10:26

I thought he did address it. It wasn't actuyhik that said it, I think it was farage?

Anyway, what they all failed to tell us was how much Brexit was costing. I think it surpassed the £350 a week from the get go.

Brexit is currently costing the UK between £400 million and £700 million per week, so probably around £550 million on average or £28.6 billion per year. Still, we got blue passports, so I guess it was worth it.
Tlollj · 08/09/2021 10:32

@Onlinedilema agree with every word.

JasonMomoasgirlfriend · 08/09/2021 10:32

Yep. Absolutely insane

EerieSilence · 08/09/2021 10:37

Tories have been paving a path to private health insurance with a general health system with long waiting queues and a subpar quality of health care delivery for years. All you had to do was to open the Daily Mail and read the horror stories about how yet another GP/doctor fucked up or yet another NHS admins had a good life and high expenses all thanks to the tax-payer's money.
I consider Daily Mail a great read when it comes to determine where the Tories will strike next because it massages the brains of the mob and directs them where the Tories want to have them. Bad social benefit spongers, bad NHS, bad environmentalists etc.
Soon, the NHS will be split and only those who can and want to afford private health insurance will be able to avail of better quality services. Working as designed.

@beguilingeyes he can't even operate an umbrella, let alone run the country twitter.com/WelshGasDoc/status/1420464370249834501?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1420752180684869644%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es2_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.entertainmentdaily.co.uk%2Fnews%2Fboris-johnson-umbrella-gaffe-10-tweets-which-give-us-life%2F
RumblyMumbly · 08/09/2021 10:46

But the Tories are normally so good at calculating costs aren't they?

The government initially estimated that HS2 would cost £37.5bn.The latest estimate from HS2 Ltd – the non-departmental public body responsible for building the line – found that the cost of HS2 is likely to be between £72.1bn and £78.4bn

Another whoopsie!

EerieSilence · 08/09/2021 10:50

TBH, people love BlowJ for some unexplicable reason. They look at the weird hair and his general air of a clueless teddy bear and think he's really like that.
I don't get it. I see someone who has no clue about how the normal people live because he grew up in a sheltered little cuckoo land where he was told that his breeding and education make him better than the "common folks". And that they could have it all and if they complain, it's because they are too lazy to get a proper job and/or education.
He also believes that his position gives him the opportunity to have it all. I mean, people had no problem with him financing his child's nursery from sponsors. How is that possible in a mature democracy?

DogFoodPie · 08/09/2021 10:54

I agree that many people didn't probably believe in a lot more funding for the NHS, they thought less immigrant workers willing to work in poor conditions for low wages would push up pay and conditions for the lower paid workers in unskilled jobs.

Bollindger · 08/09/2021 11:21

Can we see the bit pre Brexit where covid was a thing?
Your complaining about a NEW set up, this was never expected, so how do you know anyone else would have had a better outcome.
Pretty sure we would be paying through the nose to the EU, had we not left.
But hey lets pretend if you want to.

EerieSilence · 08/09/2021 12:22

@DogFoodPie

Many people were also told that:

  • there will be a shortage of workers in positions which were traditionally either difficult to fill in or they were filled in a way that's no longer suitable due to demographic reasons and changes in society (picking of fruits etc.)
  • that if you let go of "work stealing immigrants working for cheaper money", you won't only push the salaries of lower-paid positions up - you will also increase the prices of products you were used to obtain for cheaper (services, food etc.)
  • that if you create an atmosphere of xenophobia, you will pay back by losing qualified people who were fed up with being stigmatised as bloody foreigners

None of this seemed to work. And people are still looking at the mean EU, now it's also mean US who betrayed the people of Britain and did not help them to achieve the ultimate paradise of having their cake and eating it.

Wiredforsound · 08/09/2021 12:26

The people who voted for Brexit knew they were being lied to. They didn’t care. And once you’ve made your choice it’s very difficult to admit you were wrong.

Oh for gods sake, get over it. It was 5 years ago. There have been two general elections since then and Johnson has been in court over it. It is done. Can't you find, out of everything else that is going wrong, something more recent to whinge on about?
