DD made muffins in Home Ec, and they have CINNAMON in them.

How far is too far to react? On a scale of 1 to 10 where 1 is get DD to make some better muffins and 10 is burning down the school.

They also have raisins in them, adding insult to injury IMO.

Cinnamon is my fave - like Raisins too.

Send the Muffins my way

icedcoffees · 06/09/2021 17:04

Cinnamon and raisins are a great combination!

I love cinnamon and raisin bagels.

YummieMummyof3 · 06/09/2021 17:05

My kids brought home some delightful food too! We had a cold pasta fish with raw carrots and raw garlic. A vegetable curry which they had put too much curry powder. A cake decorated with tinned strawberries, plus was raw in the middle.

The muffins didn't arrive home. They were shared with pals on the bus. Thank goodness all were ok afterwards.

TheVanguardSix · 06/09/2021 17:06

Obviously, you've not been introduced to the magic of coffee cake, OP.
As an American, cinnamon-raisin muffins (with apple and carrot to boot!) get my vote.
Everyone should try American-style coffee cake... none of this walnut sponge that you lot call 'coffee cake'. American coffee cake is the absolute bomb.

Acrasia · 06/09/2021 17:07

Everything should have cinnamon in it 😋

toomuchlaundry · 06/09/2021 17:08

I'm on the side of cinnamon is lush, raisins are the work of the devil!

ImperfectPirouette · 06/09/2021 17:09
  1. Or can we find a way to make 11 an option? It is possible my views on this matter may be very slightly influenced by my cinnamon allergy.

That said, I doubt they can be as bad as the cheese [“of course you still have to make them if you’re allergic to milk girls - you’re not eating them!”] scones that my class had to pause making due to a gas leak in the Home Economics kitchens. I do mean pause, because they sent us along to sit in the hall while it was fixed*; then sent us back to the kitchens to finish making them. I put mine in the bin on the train home & then moved carriages to get away from the stench Envy (Not. Envy.)

*Probably not by someone qualified to do so, because they might have tried to get the school to, you know, actually evacuate people. Same way when the heating failed in the old science block in a spell of particularly cold weather/snow they had us in there with coats over science overalls & all the Bunsen burners there were taps for lit.

FuzzyPuffling · 06/09/2021 17:11

I could live with the raisins but cinnamon is pure filth and has utterly ruined many a good apple pie! And a muffin.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 06/09/2021 17:11

cinnamon is good, improves everything imo.

Our senior school Home Ec teachers was not friends with me, or the children.... DS1 used to love cooking and after he queried why she thought she was making risotto with basmati rice things went down hill fast.
Things got worse when she told dd off for not cracking an egg on the edge of a bowl, (we rap ours firmly on a flat surface and you are much less likely to get egg shell in your egg) Teacher asked one of her pet pupils to demonstrate to DD, pet pupil got over confident, whacked egg completely in half, shell and egg everywhere but in the bowl.

She pretty much left DS2 alone. :o

Op, where are the voting buttons?! YABVU - cinnamon and raisins are great additions Wink

Cam2020 · 06/09/2021 17:13

Yum! Send them this way 😉

TalesOfDrunkennessAndCruelty · 06/09/2021 17:13

Give that school a commendation. They sound near perfect to me - if only they had apple, too.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 06/09/2021 17:14

You are not unraisinable to dislike raisins, but some people (DH Hmm ) thinks they are essential to everything and tries to sneak them into every cake.

ifonly4 · 06/09/2021 17:15

I could cope with the raisins if I had to, but cinnamom is a no go for me - it sounds silly for some some reason it turns the top of my stomach. It's good to get them to experiment, but we always had a choice at school, ie sausage or cheese platt.

Plumtree391 · 06/09/2021 17:15

Tell him less is more. You only need the tiniest bit of cinnamon or else your taste buds disappear. Dried fruit is OK for those who like them.

toomuchlaundry · 06/09/2021 17:17

@Mindymomo before his first Home Ec lesson I asked DS whether he needed to take anything in. "No Mum they provide everything", including containers I asked "Yes Mum" (It was a private school so we were used to them providing stuff and then just adding to the bill!). Unfortunately it turned out that although they did provide all the ingredients they didn't provide containers. They made cake, came home in various pockets of his blazer and school bag! So glad they didn't make soup!

takehomepay · 06/09/2021 17:18

Chocolate is my ride or die. Raisins are moles on the Devil’s ass.

MinnieJackson · 06/09/2021 17:18

Raisins are not good at all.
My food tech was crap, always scone based pizzas etc, it was all vile!
Once I was rushing to grab my ingredients in the morning, got to school, tried to crack my eggs and they were hard boiled from the fridge Blush

SylvanasWindrunner · 06/09/2021 17:18

I use cinnamon in my bolognaise! Bloody love it

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 06/09/2021 17:18

@Deadringer

Or rather, i will dispose of them safely for you. I think Yoda wrote the above.

OP, cinnamon and raisin muffins are very reasonable, but my sister's KS3 food tech involved an interesting term where cinnamon was compulsorily in everything. Like, lasagne and shepherd's pie 🥴 I draw the line at that.

OP at least your DC is bringing something yummy home! My DS actually DID manage to set fire to the kitchen at school last year. For context he is ND and has various challenges. During the cooking lesson he managed to put his tea towel onto the hob. He told me he could smell something bad and see a bit of smoke but felt anxious and concerned that the teacher might tell him off so he didn't want to mention it. Once the flames started in earnest they had to evacuate all of the kids... he was mortified!

For what it's worth, I would take a double helping of both cinnamon and raisins. Yum!
My poor DS has not had a good experience

Actually, I'm ok with small amounts of cinnamon in savoury foods. I make a lot of Indian food and several of the recipes require a cinnamon stick (I draw the line at powdered cinnamon though).
